This one thousand times. The old intro made you feel like you were about to watch part of something historic by recapping all the historic moments across the history of the WWE. This one makes you feel like you're about to watch some corporate bullshit.

I watched the entire first AE disk last night and about 40 minutes of the second. The first disk actually wasn't too bad, it alone was worth the $5 I paid. I'm glad I didn't play full price though. It was more of a documentary looking at some of the bigger stars of the AE. They had Big Show offering his perspective as a guy who worked for WCW during part of that time, which was interesting. Mick Foley was the guy who was the biggest critic of some of the things they did. Ron Simmons, Road Dogg, and Mark Henry had some interesting things to add here and there. Henry was actually against the whole Mae Young giving birth to a hand thing, but Vince thought it was hilarious and no one could talk him out of it.

I did learn something I didn't know. Apparently shortly after Vince had given that speech about the days of heroes vs. villains being passe, they gave each guy on the roster a letter asking for ideas. JBL had pitched the idea of the hardcore division, and Vince Russo turned that into the Brawl for All. None of the guys they interviewed about it had anything positive to say about it.

The interviews and matches so far have been a mix of decent and shit. They had the four corners tag match the week before SummerSlam '98. It was the New Age Outlaws, Rock and D-Lo Brown, Kane and Mandkind, and the champs Austin and 'Taker. It was one of the worst matches I have seen. It was full of mistakes both in the ring and at the announce table. Multiple time D-Lo missed kicking out and Earl Hebner looked like a moron stopping his count with no one kicking out. Two times I noticed a member of the NAO, and once with The Rock, would enter the match as the legal man, yet were never tagged in. Despite Kane being one of the first guys tagged in JR claimed Kane had yet to get in on the match. At one point Bill Gunn jumped in to break up a pin, and both JR and King called him Road Dogg, despite Road Dogg being the guy who was pinned. It was absolute shit.

Other things I learned.
Rikishi hated doing the stinkface
Ron Simmons loved The Godfather
DX got away with way to much shit.
X-Pac can dress in blackface and it isn't racist.
The crowds in the AE were just as shitty as they can be today.
Fashion has come a long way in 15 years. Jorts everywhere.
Pat Patterson hated working with the Mean Street Posse. He also hated dressing in drag.
Edge and Christian were far more entertaining than I remembered.
Young Kurt Angle was also far more hilarious than I remember.

Yes. Yes they were. Those clips were probably the best reason to watch that DVD. Kurt is a bad ass & way funnier than people give him credit for. Plus E&C were the best thing going for a while. The Kazoo themes? For the benefit of those with flash photography? Classic stuff right there.

WWE13 sure knows how to make matches interesting, but sometimes it's too much. I just had a one on one between Eddie Guerrero and Edge, and Eddie mounted some insane offense, hit the 3 Amigos, and the Frog Splash, and Edge still kicked out, came back, and wound up hitting Downward Spiral (it was '99 Edge) on Eddie, which Eddie kicked out of. Eddie won by eventually forcing Edge to tap to The Lasso from El Paso.
