Hardcore title.
Nah. The internet wouldn't throw a big enough bitch-fit if it were the Hardcore Championship.

You've been misinformed. I got nothing out of Tree of Life.

Yeah, I don't know what you thought you heard, but I definitely did not love Tree of Life. I thought it was pretty decent, but I would never tell someone that it's a great film that they must see.

You know what it was? I remember stating The Tree of Life along with Warrior were the two worst movies of 2011 and I took your posts as defending both films, rather than just Warrior. Lol... my mistake.

Your feelings on Dickey being traded away after a Cy Young season? I know you're a Mets fan and Dickey has an incredible story, but getting as much value as they could out of him was a great move. The Metropolitans are a team I'm very intrigued in watching next year because they got some young arms (Wheeler, Harvey, Niese) with some potential and I genuinely think they can be a Wild Card contender.

I doubt he could have a repeat performance this year. I don't know if I'd say that the Mets caught lightning in the bottle with Dickey last season, but he doesn't exactly have a great track record, and he's getting kind of old. It was definitely the right move for the future, and maybe that's the direction that this team needs to take in order to get back to the playoffs. Signing a bunch of big time free agents certainly isn't doing the trick.

I liked Warrior. But I've only seen it once.

The first time I watched Bronson, I thought 'twas rubbish. Then watched it a second time, and loved it.

The difference between Dickey and most 38 year olds are that knuckleballers, historically, have had a better track record of sustaining success in their later years. Tim Wakefield, the Niekros, Hoyt Wilhelm, and Charlie Hough all had careers lasting 20+ seasons and were pitching into their 40s. Granted, Dickey throws a more different knuckleball then any of those guys because his have been clocked as high as in the mid 80s (where as a normal knuckle is generally mid 60s low 70s). I think it'll be very intriguing as to how much his peripherals stay the same, especially since it's been reported he pitched most of the year hurt.

Also, he didn't just fall from the sky. Here's a comparison of his and Zack Greinke's numbers from 2010-2012

R.A. Dickey, 2010-2012: 91 starts, 617 IP, 2.95 ERA, 468 Ks, 150 walks
Zack Greinke, 2010-2012: 95 starts, 604 IP, 3.83 ERA, 582 Ks, 154 walks

Yes, knuckleballers generally are able to pitch longer than regular pitchers, but they're still not competing at the highest level. Tim Wakefield was a fine pitcher for the Red Sox when he was 40, but they weren't counting on him to be a pillar for the team, a position that d'Arnaud could arguably find himself in with Mets in a few years.

I think he'll still be a very serviceable pitcher next year, perhaps even an ace, but after this season I doubt he'll be able to perform at an extremely high level. The Blue Jays are looking to take the AL in 2013, and if they don't do it then it will be a while until they can try again.

So my parents told my sister that they were considering getting her a dog because it's like, all she ever talks about (she's 20, by the way, and has all of her mental facilities), and they told her that they might get one this Saturday. She got her hopes up and started buying shit for it. Tonight at dinner they told her that they weren't going to get one, yet anyway. Now she's crying, my mom's yelling, my dad is interjecting when he is able, and I'm just sitting in my room, shaking my head and trying to get my own shit done.

I feel like this guy

What about Phil Niekro? 78 was his Age 39 season and, both by sabermetric and traditional stats, had his best season of his career. And he's a HOFer. He followed that with 6 more good-average seasons before becoming essentially an innings eater his last two years.

Joe Niekro didn't have as much success overall as his brother, but his 38-39-40 years were still highly productive and rotation worthy.

I'll repeat that I absolutely love the deal for the Mets. You have to strike the iron while its hot and they got a guy that won't be apart of their next title run. I'm just saying don't call it a fluke because he's 38. Knuckleballers are a different type of study.

Perhaps I misrepresented my feelings on Dickey in my original post. When I said "I don't know if I'd say they caught lightening in a bottle," I meant that I wouldn't say that, because I don't think Dickey's knuckleball was suddenly imbued by the power of Zeus as it came flying across the plate, but rather it was the culmination of many years of developing his craft. That said, The Mets are better off getting a future star that they can utilize for many years than a pitcher that they'll only be able to use for a couple more seasons, and there's still no guarantee he's going to be as good as he was last year.

What would your projection of them be then, in terms of wins? I do think their pitching will carry them, but signing Wright back was huge to give them that middle of the order threat. I'm thinking 80-83, with maybe 86 or 88 being their ceiling if everything goes right (Phillies continue to not age well, Marlins enter Astros-level of suck, other divisions have poor threats, a batter or two hits over his head, young pitching lives up to the billing).

I have no idea man, that division is just so crazy, and I'm not that in touch with baseball at the moment. I will project them to finish 4th in the division, ahead of the Marlins but behind the Phillies, and I think we'll see the Nats finish in first leaving the Braves to fill in second. The Mets have a few good pieces, but their outfield still blows and it remains to be seen if Ike Davis can return to 2011 form.

Would you like me to talk to them?

They should be honored to have you in their home. Frankly you should be a bit insulted that the invitation wasnt extended sooner. I mean, why does there have to be a problem before you are invited over? What happened to being friendly and having someone around just to enjoy their company or share a nice drink?

Yes, I think my entire family could use a good rational talking to by SNS. Come over for supper on Sunday, I'll save you a seat.

...See how easy that was. Im sure you will all have a great time. In fact, you should grill a few nice steaks for the occasion.

As a guy who hates the Mets just slightly less than I hate the Yankees, I can say I think they did very well with that trade. Dickey is a guy who was barely a major league level pitcher until the last couple years. In return they get arguably the top catching prospect in d'Arnaud, a former All-Star catcher in John Buck, and two solid pitching prospects. I think they can finish 3rd in the division if they can stay healthy, but they have a way to go before catching the Nats and Braves.

On an unrelated note, I really dig the Mets black alternate unis.

Unfortunately I will be busy that night teaching orphans how to stop being a burden to society. Perhaps you all would be available for brunch?

I am not insulted at all. His parents have told me before that they feel guilty relying on me so much. It is just the family trying to be selfless and struggling through life so I can live my own and spend the holidays with my family(we are not in a close vicinity). What they fail to realize is that teaching and enlightening others is what I live for.

Gameplay trailer for the Elder Scrolls Online.

I told you they were going to make it. At least I think it was you I told, maybe it was Barbosa.

Still, I really, REALLY don't want to get hooked to this game, and that might prevent me from trying it at all. I know myself, and when I get started on something I don't want to stop until I've finished it, and a game that massive could take months of dedicated play. Thanks Bethesda, but no thanks. Besides, I like playing adventure games solo.

I never doubted that Elder Scrolls MMO was coming. All I was hoping was that it would not be the only Elder Scrolls game that Bethesda were going to produce. MMO becoming all-pervasive would severely undermine my playing of new games, unless the idea of Free-2-Play becomes more widespread.

Was just watching the gameplay video for Rome 2: Total War earlier this week. The headlining battle, the siege of Carthage in 146BCE, looks immense in size, scale, scope and presentation even in its current unfinished state.

So I opened my package from Gamestop to find a rather unpleasant surprise. Yes, my copy of Assassin's Creed III was in the envelope, but inside the AS3 was an Assassin's Creed III disc 2. No disc 1. As in the disc I'm interested in, the one where you can... you know... PLAY THE FUCKING GAME. Now I'm already in a foul fucking mood, so I immediately drove to my local Gamestop, which is, fortunately, a mere two minute drive. I went in and told my problem to the manager, but the store couldn't do anything for me because they can't accept a return for a product that isn't there (which I get, because any shmuck could walk into the store and say that they get the game when they really have it sitting in their XBox at home), and told me that I'm going to have to take it through Gamestop.com. So right now I'm waiting for "the next available team member" on the phone, and I'm probably going to raise hell for them when I get on the phone. They have wasted so much of my time with this that I feel like they owe me more than just the right copy of the game. I want the correct copy of the game tomorrow, or the correct copy of the game in the regular shipping time PLUS store credit.

It's a real fucking shame that Gamestop pretty much has a monopoly on videogame sales right now outside of Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. I like shopping at Gamestop because it's not a megastore and I like supporting the local branches where I always have a good experience. It's shit like this, though, that drives me fucking INSANE. The local branches care about your business because they need it to keep their doors open, but Gamestop.com? They don't need shit from you. This customer service person (if I ever got one), could say, "Tough luck pal, sucks to be you," and hang up, and you know what I could do about it? Not a god damn thing.

Regardless of how this turns out, I am never, ever, ever ordering something from Gamestop.com ever again, ever. I've never had a problem in store, and if I did I'm sure they'd do everything in their power to take care of it. The first time I use Gamestop.com they fuck it up and I have to spend my time fixing it. Fuck them.

I'm pretty livid right now.

I can't imagine Elders Scrolls becoming an MMO only series, there's just too much money to be made in single player games for the consoles.
