Does Every Raw Have To End With Cena?

I was a bit confused with it too. Since RAW is on at night time over there in America, I would have thought that the kids would be in bed by the second hour and therefore Cena should be on earlier so his fans can cheer him.

I think this storyline works well for business- the Punk/Nash/H storyline for the adults and the championship storyline for the kids.

For a lot of America it is still Summer and school hasn't started back yet or it is here at least. I agree to an extent with the OP sure he marked out towards the end by taking on all challengers in his argument but I digress.

What comes on last is what everyone is going to remember it is just the way the human mind works. Lasting impressions are usually created by the last thing you see. That is why I dismissed most of the uproar about only 5 matches last night. If the 2 main events succeed that is what people are going to remember the PPV for and rather they got there moneys worth or not. Bottom line is people would be buzzing way more about the Nash/Punk promo if it was the last thing we saw. But you can't put a championship match on at 10 eastern 9 central just discredits the belt.

The problem really lies with given Rey a title shot ahead of time like they planned last week. (He was champion for an hour does he really deserve a rematch) All the heat and hype is on Punk/Cena/HHH/Nash and the majority of the final part of the program is on Rey and Del Rio. I realize it is Reys hometown and everything but the booking just didn't sit right with me tonight. I feel as if a segment with the hottest storyline really is where the show should of ended. But, all in all a great show so Im not complaining just simply stating what I would of liked to have seen.

You can't classify me as all Punk fans as I NEVER posted anything about how I feel Punk should've gone over clean (although I sure would've celebrated if that did happen)

IF it's different next week then I apologize but I just have a feeling that this is being brushed aside in favor of Cena. No matter what Cena does. And that before it was only on last BECAUSE of Cena. That is my worry.
I'm not calling you a Punk fan, I'm just saying, Punk fans generally think he's this in ring god miracle worker, most over guy in the history of the planet. He's very good, but just like underground indy rock bands (which is kinda what Punk is the equivalent of), he's great but grossly overrated by his fans.

"Brushed aside in favor of Cena"? Cena got 2 minutes, Punk and Punk's angle got probably 10-20. Punk isn't being brushed aside. It just made sense for Cena to be on last because the guy he's chasing was in the main event. the title is often in the main event, you top guy is chasing or holding the title. It makes sense.

As for the theory that the kids should be in bed after the first hour and so Cena should go on earlier, my bed time was 10 pm. I live in the central region. On the west coast raw ends at 8, mountain time 9, central 10, eastern 11. So for 3 of those 4, raw isn't really on "late". Not only that but I'm guessing it's pretty hard to pry kids away from Raw after 1 hour. So if parents are letting their kids watch, it's likely the whole show.

Not only THAT but don't act like Cena doesn't appeal to more people. The adults who like to boo him are considered part of his market too, and the sponsors, and the stockholders, and the fans of pro wrestling who appreciate what he is. He's not the most over guy on the roster by having a single segment he caters to.

Punk fans are the most immature you have ever met? Ok.

Look, ALL I am saying is that WWE should be more consistent. With the whole title thing, YES, IT SHOULD CLOSE THE SHOW!!! I AGREE!!! Want to know what the problem is though? IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERYTIME!!! As a matter of fact there have been PLENTY of times where it didn't happen. And maybe I jumped to conclusion. If I did, I apologize but my original point was that the hottest superstar in the wrestling business and this whole storyline was brushed aside in favor of Cena.THAT was the point I was making. If it is different next week, then ok but if it's the same thing then I'm going to get worried then. I just wish WWE would show more consistency. The title match closes out the show WHEN THEY WANT IT to close out not because IT SHOULD close out. I mean for you to ask if he should close out the show over the WWE champ, Cena and the hometown hero, if he's the hottest thing going but you only use that argument in YOUR favor when you say Nexus was the hottest thing last year. IMO, like I said in another post, the Punk storyline has been Nexus on steroids.

This post helped me figure out why WWE went with the Punk story line so early. Since it is the Nexus story on steroids it must of violated the Wellness Policy also. Hope they don't scrap the whole thing completely now I was really starting to enjoy it.

In all seriousness with how good booking has been lately even though I didn't love it tonight I am just going to sit back and put confidence in creative to keep delivering. Things will eventually develop and Punk will be anything but buried.

Ha! Nexus on steroids, you make me laugh. Nexus brought change during a HORRIBLY boring era. It literally came out of nowhere. All Punk did was take the internet rants that I have to read every day when I get on this site and put them on a promo at the end of one RAW. Can you remember one RAW that didnt end with the WWE championship. All these past weeks its been Punk and Cena as WWE champions closing the show. Before that it was Vince interrupting the WWE champinship match to get fired. You're only issue with this is that Cena closed the show. If it was Punk interrupting Del Rio you would've nutted on the screen. Cena is #1 contender, so of course hes going to close the show on the champ.

That's just my opinion. Glad I made you laugh. And I enjoyed what I was seeing before Nexus came along. You could also argue things were anticlimatic before Punk's shoot happened. Cena and Orton were champs on the respected show and I didn't really have much interest.

And were mainstream outlets talking about Nexus? ESPN? Kimmel? JOHN MADDEN has talked about CM Punk. TMZ.

My issue isn't that Cena closed the show but rather what happened while he closed it and what happened earlier.

"ALL" Punk did? Does EVERYBODY look at wrestling forums? I'm sure there are plenty of casuals who are well behind Punk who might not necessarily know about those complaints. Do you think the Little Jimmy's wearing the Punk shirts go on the forums? Could be but I doubt it.

If Cena comes out at the start of the show, the crowd pops

If Cena comes out at the end of the show, the crowd pops.

Cena's Merchandise sales, I took my cousin to a show a few months back, and spent over $75 on Cena merchandise.

Cena makes more money for the WWE, than any other superstar and because of this he will continue to be the focal point of every WWE Raw broadcast, and will be featured on ever Smackdown broadcast, he will continue to pop up on Superstar and NXT broadcasts because no matter who says they are the face of the WWE, or who you think is the face of the WWE, JOHN CENA IS THE FACE OF THE WWE.

Ok, lets break down the media outlets that spoke about Punk. There was this one guy from ESPN, cant place his name but he praised Punk. He also said that Eddie Guerrero's death was not worthy enough to be put on the newspaper, called wrestling fans booger eaters, and told a fan to get a gun and literally kill himself because he constantly bashes a certain team and the fan called him on his BS. Boy I sure do want that guy's support.

Wrestlers have always been on late night. This past month we've seen Triple H, Sheamus, and The Miz on late night, not to talk about Punk but to promote Summerslam. TMZ always covers wrestling as well. Batista's bellybutton tattoo was newsworthy to them.

If you have an issue with what happened while Cena closed the show, then you have a problem with Cena closing the show in general since all that happened was....Cena closing the show lol.

Somebody else talked about "lasting impressions" And that that is what people will be talking about. I completely agree.

I'm not saying Cena doesn't appeal to more people because he has a massive fan base but Punk is appealing to all audiences too. I also appreciate that Cena works hard and all but I'm not going to lie that his schtick does get old and when it feels like the WWE championship only goes on last when it involves Cena, well, then... that's why I feel what I feel.

No I DON'T have a problem with Cena closing the show NOW you're just making stuff up. I felt that if Punk was in that segment I would've felt more comfortable with it and wouldn't have made this thread. Cena closes the show every week but I never said anything before. I didn't have a reason to.

Ok, I'm sorry he made those comments but what does that have to do with Punk? Of course other wrestlers are on late night but it adds to the argument that Punk has gotten mainstream attention. I see how you haven't said anything about John Madden calling Aaron Rodgers the CM Punk of the NFL.

Yes I get that, I get that but this isn't so much an issue of me feeling that Cena shouldn't close out the show. I understand he is the face of the WWE but tonight it just felt less important with Cena closing out the show given the circumstances.

I believe Cena had to end the show because they do not want Mysterio in his home of San Diego to have the match anywhere else but the end. Del Rio has to put Mysterio on the shelf, so who is going to come and save him... Punk? It had to be Cena and show ends. Next week is when Raw will go insane.

When someone makes such asinine remarks about something you tend to not care about anything else they have to say. This guy has zero respect or clue about whats relevant in the business. He's all about reaction. He knows WWE is regarded as a sport, and something relevant happened in WWE that turned heads do he spoke about Punk. When something new happens people talk about it. Punk got mainstream attention and so did Mr McMahon when he got "fired". I'm not gunna glorify Punk and word going around is WWE has buddies at ESPN who made the plug happen. In other words this is an an inner circle and guys who couldnt give a shit if a guy who gave his all in the ring died all the sudden cared about a fake rant.

So your beef is that Punk should've been at the end of the show. To do exactly what? He already had his time, RAW was running out of time. Triple H mentioned that he was supposed to apologize to Cena at the begging of the show and he never even got the chance to. Punk has no reason to be at the end of the show. He lost the WWE championship because some guy interfered and he confronted the guy who interfered. Job done.

And I said before that I will apologize and retract my statement if it is different next week but if RAW continues to close with Cena/Del Rio and HHH/Nash/Punk is in the middle of the show, it won't feel as such a big of a deal as Cena/Del Rio just because it has Cena.

I feel for my fellow Cena haters, I really do. We can't stand him, so obviously, we don't like seeing him close every show.

But, should this upset us? No, it really shouldn't. He's the face of the company, and being angry about it, constantly, won't do you any good. Would I rather see CM Punk close the show? Of course, but he's not on Cena's level. Maybe he'll get there, maybe he won't... either way, get used to it, because it's not going to change for quite some time.

CM Punk stated how he didn't blame Del Rio for cashing in his MITB brief case... so that cleared him of getting involved after Del Rio attached Rey Mysterio post match.

Rey Mysterio and John Cena are BFF's/friends/whatever and Cena being Cena saw little Rey under attack and came to his rescue. Del Rio is a heel, Cena is a face so what was the argument again?

Who else was going to make the save? Ryder? Kingston? Triple H? The Anonymous RAW GM? King?

Yeah he didn't blame Del Rio. But guess what, he still has a rematch clause in hand.

I'm not angry that he closed the show. I was just angry at tonight. And I felt that these past couple weeks, Punk HAS been on Cena's level. He likely won't STAY there but ever since his shoot promo he has been larger than life.

I agree about the whole "Punk in the media" being overrated (again, typically by Punk marks). I heard it on Petros and Money on my way home, which I think is a fox show. They said it was cool, but "still fake so who cares" which is really how they feel. "Real" sports analysts have a grudge against pro wrestling for who knows why. If anyone dies, that's a chance for them to say "this is what happens when you take steroids" which is usually not only untrue (Benoit didn't kill in roid rage) but also hypocritical (baseball and football have more rampant steroid use). If something good happens, they will mention it, but then bash it for being "fake". The worst is that sack of shit Collin Cowherd. If he had 3rd degree burns on 90% of his body and was in miserable pain the rest of his life, I would throw rubbing alcohol on him. To me he's just barely a better human being than Saddam Hussein.

WWE getting mentioned on ESPN isn't a big deal. Fuckin Coach works for them, they make WWE references all the time, for a while they were calling a guy on the Marlins who's last name was Batista "the animal".

I think what a lot of it comes down to is that people on here are a lot more "mark" then they care to admit. If you're not a mark for a guy, then why do you want him to win cleanly, win titles, and be on the end of the show? Does it make you feel better about being his fan? Winning cleanly, winning titles, and being on at the end of the show doesn't get you over, telling a compelling story does. Last night Punk's segment belonged where it was and Cena's belonged where it was. Cena's segment typically belongs near the end of the show because he's the face of the company and usually in the main feud. It's pretty simple really. Take out all your fanhood and just look at it and ask "why" not "why isn't my favorite getting treated better" because that's about as markish as saying "why did the nWo screw over Lex Luger?"

I like being a mark. Being a mark is more fun. People on forums who overanalyze everything and tend to act all "smart" in a way ruined wrestling for me and I'll never see wrestling the same way again. Even if I'm not a mark for someone that doesn't mean I'll care. When Cena closes the show, I don't care. When he wins titles and cleanly, usually, I don't care. It was just this one exception tonight where I felt differently. Usually Cena is involved in the main feud and all but there is unfinished business in the Punk storyline if you ask me.

I am a Punk mark. A hardcore one? No. I don't think that Punk should've been at the end of Raw. Cena's promo was pretty damn good and made more since for him to be there at the end of the show. So you now mention about "Why Cena has to be on the end of every Raw" when he's been doing this for years. It's nothing new. This was also one of the best Raw endings in awhile.

There's a difference between being a mark and enjoying the show and thinking you aren't a mark and bitching that your favorite guy isn't getting pushed right. You aren't like that, but I'm saying there are a TON of posters on here who are obvious marks and like to pretend otherwise and then go on these rants and analyse why Christian, a chickenshit heel, needs a clean win to gain credibility; or how CM Punk, a guy held down by the man, needs a 6 month title reign. It's stupidity.

I enjoy pro wrestling. I love watching it, I appreciate it. When I analyse it, I APPRECIATE it. Most people on here are marks who are essentially analysing the WWE from the perspective of "this is how I'd do it, this is who I like, any other way is wrong". That's totally stupid and illogical. I watch a show, enjoy the show, then think "I wonder why they did that" and usually I then go "ahhh, that was smart because it does this, this, and this".

Let me ask you this. Do you think Cena should have been on the end of Raw tonight. If you say no, then where the hell else do you put hometown boy vs ADR? Are you willing to kill the crowd just to put what you feel is the hottest angle on last? I'm not asking "based on the past X amount of weeks" or "based on hat % he's on the end of the show" I'm saying, is there REALLY any other way of booking tonight where it makes sense for Cena to NOT be on at the end?

I didn't read through this whole thread, but what I did read seems kinda silly. Cena was on for about 2 minutes and gave one of those intense promos that are very good which he should do much more often imo. I have no issue with how it ended due to the fact that they're trying to focus on the WWE title as the main thing and getting Del Rio to be a legit ME which working with Cena may accomplish.

That plus, regardless of what went on last we all know what everyone is thinking about and wants to see more of. And that's the angle with CM Punk. He's been red hot over the last month and half and has been responsible for the most must see WWE tv in years. And it doesn't look like that's slowing down any time soon. I'm fairly sure that his angle will close out it's fair share of shows in the coming weeks and months

Before I get bashed for being a Cena fan, let me make my statement. Regardless of what you (which apparently you seem to be stating yourself as a hardcore IWC member), WWE doesnt pander to the IWC. The IWC is a stupid name for something that really doesnt even exist. I'll get to Cena in a minute but look, everybody has Internet these days, so if course wrestling fans are going to go online & look up the latest news & post articles on forums & sites such as Bleacher Report. WWE doesn't revolve around what the self-proclaimed IWC wants. Go ahead & call me a member of the IWC, but I'm not, because it doesn't exist! The IWC are the fans of heels, underused talent & Cena basher, but not everybody who is on the internet is a heel supporter or Cena basher. So, look, WWE wants to sell merchandise, yes that's where Cena, Rey & Orton fit in, but also they want ratings & a great storyline & like it or not, Mr. 5 Moves of Doom is exactly that. Maybe the Punk-Cena feud is over now, as Punk is a face & involved with Nash, but maybe not as we could see a Cena swerve with a heel turn (although unlikely at the moment). But, the main focus is always the WWE title. Del Rio is the champ & Cena is obviously the challenger. It could've ended different, we could've had John come out, attack Del Rio, then slap on a cheesy smile & yell "bologna, fudge & mustard!" to the crowd as all of the "Little Jimmies" eat it up like candy. But it didn't end like that. Cena is getting back into that edgy character, not the heel Cena or the Doctor of Thuganomics but the 2006-2008 Cena, you know, the "Kickin ass & takin names" character. Cena ended with a short, but great promo, even throwing in some TV-14 like moves. Now, you're pissed because the poster boy of the WWE ended the show once again, right? But like I said, the main focus is that big golden strap thingy. When Miz was champ, he always ended RAW, CM Punk ended RAWs with Cena, Rock, Stone Cold, HHH, Orton, they all ended RAW as champion. Expect Del Rio & Cena to end RAW all the way up until Night of Champions. If it was Del Rio kicking Cena's ass for 3 straight weeks like Miz did before WM27, you'd be eating it up like JR's BBQ sauce. So after Cena wins the title for the 376th time, please feel free to post a thread about how you're pissed. What do you want from WWE? They want ratings, they want good storylines & Mr. 5 Moves of Doom is the guy to deliver. Let's end RAW next week with Kofi dancing in the ring with little kids & a leprechaun! You're mad that Cena ended RAW, so are many others. Well Hulk Hogan is a sell out has been & Morrison won a match tonight, tell us something we don't already know. As much as we voice our opinions & ideas, if we don't work for them, the WWE doesn't care what we think, at least, to a certain point. Watch it & see the storyline play out, it hasn't even begun & you're getting riled up. Chill dude, you're getting nowhere here.

Well for me it IS fun to think of and post my own ideas. Not saying I'm right or wrong or anybody else is but I'm not going to lie that it is fun to talk about how I would do a certain thing.

Yes he should've been at the end of RAW tonight. But so should Punk, in my opinion. Since he wasn't and since Cena was, well, at that time it just felt underwhelming for me with the whole Punk storyline and all.

And I will say, whether it made sense or not, I know I would've been entertained if Punk/Nash closed the show. Not sure about others.

I'm not angry that he closed the show. I was just angry at tonight. And I felt that these past couple weeks, Punk HAS been on Cena's level. He likely won't STAY there but ever since his shoot promo he has been larger than life.

Now I know that there is a little thing called "technological barrier" between us so I can't hear how you typed this, nor can I see your emotions. However, in your post, your very first in this thread you focused your argument on how you were "fed up" with the night's show, primarily how Cena was involved in the closing segment. So taking this a step further an analyzing what you typed in your argument you were just upset about the organization the show, am I right? If that is the case I can only tell you the same thing I have been saying since the build for SummerSlam began, "wait and see what happens". Cena was not seen for the entire show. So ofcourse they would want to slide him in at the last minute.

You have to get it in your head that Cena is the top guy in WWE. Punk is the Ant-Authoritarian, he shook things up and I highly doubt that WWE is going to brush him aside. Additionally, placing the Nash/Punk segment in the last stretch just wouldn't have worked, there were backstage segments organized because of that segment. I cannot fully say why Cena was in that closing segment, him saying he doesn't like how Del Rio took Punk's title away just wasn't good enough. All I can say was that he needed to be seen and I'm pretty sure this is building up for "Night of Champions". Who else was to end the show? I mean wrestling is his job.

No, I'm fine with Cena fans and I know WWE doesn't cater to the IWC. I never said that they did or they should. And calling me a hardcore IWC'er, put it this way: There are many things I agree about with the casual IWC'er but not IWC'er is going to make me feel how I feel. People bashed the Miz Subway promo. I LOVED it. People bash John Morrison. I am a fan. The majority of the IWC doesn't speak for me.

As far as whether or not the IWC exists, it's all subjective. Some think it does. Some don't. I know the likes of Zack Ryder and Matt Hardy have mentioned the term IWC by name. So think about that.

No, not everybody is. But just because I like a lot of heels doesn't mean I like all of them. Just because I may like AN underused talent doesn't mean I like ALL underused talent. Just because I bash Cena doesn't mean I'll never praise Cena.

And Punk. And to an extent Miz. I have seen quite a bit of merchandise from those guys too, especially Punk in recent memory. I saw so many Miz shirts during Wrestlemania season as well.

And I have said before that the WWE title should be the focus but only when WWE wants it to be. Miz ended the show when Cena was involved. But when he wasn't? There were many instances (not all, but many) in which Miz as champ without Cena did NOT close the show.

I like that edgy character from Cena but keep in mind he is *A* challenger, NOT *THE* challenger. If one hour reign Mysterio gets a rematch, so should Punk. Whether Cena won, Punk would've gotten a rematch. If Punk won, Cena would've gotten one. They are contractually obligated.

I'm not so sure how much I would be eating it up per se. The main reason I like Alberto is because of Ricardo. I said in the original post I LIKED CENA'S PROMO.

And I won't say this storyline is good JUST BECAUSE of Punk because Cena has been good too but the last time he did something that caught my interest was Wrestlemania season. My opinion may not matter but I'm going to let it be known here.

I mean I hope I'm wrong in the coming weeks but tonight had me worried.

See this in bold is getting me fed up I BELIEVE I ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IN MY POST AND I HAVE KNOWN FOR A WHILE CENA IS TOP GUY!!! HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO POST THAT IN THIS THREAD???!?!??

I'm sorry but how is this selling Wrestlemania? Where was The Rock tonight? Was there ANY reference at all to Wrestlemania? I don't think there was. With all due respect I don't see what you are trying to say here in this post.

I'm not lumping you in with those guys. Some people get on here and legitimately WANT WWE to book how they want and it never makes story sense, business sense, or any other sense other than "book my favorite guy to win all the time to please me". They're stupid, you're not, I was just making a point on people in general.

how do you have both on at the end? They're splitting their top 2 draws to flesh out the characters more and get more of the show over with 2 different feuds, you can't have them both on at the end.

I really don't get this whole "end of the show" thing. So, you'd be entertained by it if it were the end of the show, but not if it wasn't? This makes no damn sense.

The Punk/Nash segment was entertaining, it was on the show, and the angle itself was given several segments. Cena was given 2 minutes, if you switch those around and Cena is given several segments complaining about Del Rio, and Punk is given 2 minutes at the end, then it doesn't work does it?

Not only that but you could see Cena on the end as a buffer to add impact. If Punk's angle is given several segments and for some strange reason ADR vs Rey is on at 9:15 and you get Cena's 2 minute promo, then Punk is on again at the end, it's overkill and Cena's doesn't have the impact it should have. It's kind of a checks and balance thing.

No matter how you look at it, you kind of have an irrational infatuation for the "last segment" and are putting it on too much of a pedistal. Plus having Punk/Nash on last would have likely hurt the Punk/Nash angle (overkill in one night), Cena (not as much impact since it was a short promo), and ADR/Rey (hometoy boy going for the gold needs to be the main event).

Now I understand that & I respect your opinion, all I'm saying is that whether or not we like or dislike something, the WWE doesn't bat an eyelash at us fans. I want a Cena heel turn, I want a Bourne push, Christian as WHC, R-Truth main eventing & Orton to drop tv time, but the WWE doesn't care. And, I'm okay with that because sometimes, it makes a better storyline or makes other people happy. Some people hate Cena & some love him. I hate the silly rainbow shirts & his PG schtick, but the kids love it & I'm okay with that. Feel free to voice your opinion but just realize that things aren't changing soon as far as Cena is concerned. Look at the bright side, at least Flair is cutting himself open in TNA & Hulkamania isn't running wild throughout WWE. I'd rather have Cena-mania than the real 5 Moves of Doom Superman, Hogan. Lol

No No No I was ENTERTAINED of Punk/Nash no matter what. I faved it on youtube. I loved it. But the END OF THE SHOW would've been entertaining for me in that sense.

Typically I know that the last thing is what people buzz about. How often is it that the thing most people focus on and buzz about is something during the middle of the show? I am worried that WWE will go in the direction of emphasizing more on Cena/Del Rio because it closed the show. I can't remember the last time people talked more about a middle of the show segment than the ending.
