Cryptic "01/02/2012" Video - Chris Jericho Returns- KEEP IT IN HERE! - NO SPAMMING!

This is really stupid. I know there's the people out there saying this is so brilliant or whatever, I don't care. This could very well end up being the greatest thing we've ever seen from Jericho, whenever the hell it all ends up making sense, but that doesn't change the fact that this act for as many weeks as they are going to run it, is a waste of time.

And for the people acting like they're enjoying it and saying everyone else just wants instant gratification, it's not like I'm going to lie. Yeah, after weeks of those stupid promos, I want some gratification. Jericho is back on my TV on Monday nights, two in a row now, and he hasn't said a word, isn't wrestling, isn't feuding with anyone, isn't doing anything. You're right I think it's stupid and I want to know what the heck is going on with this.

Even if you want to say it has to do with the girl from the promos, that eventually Stephanie or someone is going to return and then there will be more to this, you could accomplish the same thing by having Jericho say it himself. He still wouldn't have to wrestle, he could still just make these pointless appearances, but at least have him start talking and have him say that "she isn't here yet" or "she's not ready yet".

For anyone who really thinks this is entertaining, allow me to buy you a book and rip out the last three chapters, and then laugh at you for wanting instant gratification when you wish you could know the rest.

Honestly I just find it insulting as a fan.

How well would it go over if any other "weekly episodic television show" built up some huge hype about a returning character, most of the audience had a good guess who it was, and then it comes true, and in the middle of a dramatic storyline, this character emerges and just stares at the camera with a braindead grin on his face for 7 minutes, and then is not seen on the show again. Wonder how well that would go over anywhere but in the "WWE Universe".

Yea, this is going great. Suppose to be a heel run but he's still very over with the crowd. I'm sure there will be a big pay off but as of now, "genius"? Not really. How does this bring in ratings? That's the whole point here.

I really liked how they did last week. Thought it worked very well if they were going for a heel turn (which is still very likely). But I have to say I am surprised by this week where he just came out and cried. You'd think he would've said maybe just a little... I hope we don't see this all the way up until after the RR, though it could be a possibility. Maybe next week laughing...? My wonder is why the crowd still cheered him. Guess they didn't get the full message last week.

Anyways, there is one potential plan here. If he really is here to begin a feud with Punk, do they really wanna overshadow Ziggler right now? I mean, if Jericho comes out and starts a feud with Punk NOW, who's gonna really pay attention to Ziggler? Yes, he has all kinds of lovers in the IWC, but the general WWE audience would practically forget he existed. Think of it like what some people thought of the Miz before WM28 when Cena was starting his Rock feud though he had a match with Miz. Same thing, but worse in this case because Miz's mic skills are better than Ziggler's. So by that logic, we're gonna have to deal with this for 2 more weeks... But it's just a theory anyways.

Just because we don't know the reason why, doesn't mean there will be something great coming out of it... Just thinking about the last year. There were things that you started to wonder, why is he doing this, who is behind all that etc etc and you never got a proper answer. Just doing things to make poeple wonder won't work well if you don't back it up with a proper explanation.

I know it's early to say how it will end up, but I wonder how could someone coming out and saying nothing will be good for business, as of today. As for tomorrow, my assumptions are as good as yours, so don't bother. You can say it will end up being great, I can say it will end up being terrible. Who knows? But as of today, it's not good at all...

Why do we always measure how good something is in terms of how much ratings it does?

Are we TV executives or TV viewers?

Well I'm looking at the WWE standpoint. The way you measure the success of a tv show is by ratings. Fans loved the attitude era. Guess how the ratings were? Through the freaking roof. So yea, there is a correlation between ratings and how good the product is.

As a tv viewer, this isn't doing anything for me. I'm more interested in the Funkasarus and Kane. The best thing y2j did since coming back was that backstage interview where he lit up his shirt and walked off smiling. That made me laugh. The crying, I wasn't too big on it.

My thoughts on Chris Jericho's gimmick and story arc

ItBegins: The start of the promos

Second2012: He returns

LookWithin: Jericho Breaks Down

Control: Y2J controls his tears

ProphetLess: Attacks punk at rumble

ThEndBegins: ''She'' is Revealed

what do you think?

Edit: It also looked like this week when he was "tearing up" he mouthed "I'm sorry". Perhaps because he can't save us this time? We're too far gone?

No. If it ends up being the greatest thing we've ever seen from Jericho, then it's not a waste of time. It will be worth the time invested for the story to have been built properly. A lack of immediate results does not equal a waste of time.
And for the people acting like they're enjoying it and saying everyone else just wants instant gratification, it's not like I'm going to lie. Then WWE is accomplishing exactly what they set out to do. They're piquing your interest and making you wonder what's happening. Therefore, you will tune in to see more. Quite simple really.
Even if you want to say it has to do with the girl from the promos, that eventually Stephanie or someone is going to return and then there will be more to this, you could accomplish the same thing by having Jericho say it himself. The girl in the promos is not an actual girl. People need to give up on that one. Stephanie isn't coming back and no one else fits the bill. The girl has to be symbolism for Punk or something else related to WWE or the title.
For anyone who really thinks this is entertaining, allow me to buy you a book and rip out the last three chapters, and then laugh at you for wanting instant gratification when you wish you could know the rest.
Terrible comparison. If I never get to read the last three chapters, then of course I'm gonna be upset. You're gonna get to read the last chapters of this story. Also, no one reads a book and skips right to the end, which it seems like you're trying to do here.

A lot of things that happen in WWE wouldn't go over well on standard TV shows. What's your point?

Correction. WE will tune in to see. Two weeks in a row Jericho has been in hour two and the ratings have dropped for that hour even though last week everyone at least knew someone important was debuting. They're keeping the hardcore fans but that's about it. Casual fans just aren't interested. All the "cleverness" in the world can't save them from apathy and apathy is what Jericho's videos and last two promos have evoked. Everyone and their mother predicted it was Jericho but the ratings were down two weeks ago even before Jericho came out. If there was a buzz then surely next week people would tune in. Nope. Basically this has been an unmitigated failure so far. They could still turn this thing around but whatever happens clearly this hasn't done anything for WWE's bottom line as of now.

Casual fans might not be as interested as we are, but they're certainly not going to tune out when they see Jericho. You're talking about people who probably watch Raw every week as it is, and who WWE doesn't really have to worry about keeping. The people they need to hook are the ones who feel like they've seen it all, and now they have more important things to watch. If you give them something like this that's never really been done before, they're more inclined to put those other things on hold.

I think this was an experiment that they are trying with Jericho (something different and if nothing else this is different) and so far I'm not seeing the impactful hook that will get the non-hardcore to watch, come back for more, or even more importantly just plain give a damn. As much as I don't like the Kane/Cena/Ryder angle they are creating an interesting (not to me but to most fans it seems) storyline with a cliffhanger each week and they're using it front and center at the top and bottom of the show (unlike Jericho which seems to be stuck right now booked at around the middle of hour two).

I know they think this is so very clever and cerebral (and no doubt it is an unorthodox method of turning cheers into boos) but honestly I think it's too "smart" for its own good. They're tried it for two weeks and haven't seen a surge in viewers. They've actually seen a decline. I just wonder how long they plan on keeping it up. Like I said in a previous post they finally noticed Cole was a detriment to the show and over the last few weeks have continually toned him back into a tolerable and even enjoyable color commentator again. But that was months later than it should have happened. How long will they stick with the silent Jericho in the face of an apathetic reaction from the non-hardcore?

Another week and another okay promo. The suspense is building and I'm just hoping WWE will deliver on this angle. I'm expecting something clever. Wouldn't be shocked if he does these promos til the rumble.

I was starting to think the same, of a link to the words in the promo's and his actions. If he shows some sort of "Control" next week then it might be right. There is still two RAW's before RR, so that would be 'Control' & 'Prophetless', leaving 'The End Begins' for RR maybe?

Just an attempt to make sense of it all...
