Who wins the match up?

Chyna has been toted as some pioneer for women because she was booked against men in the modern era. Really though, she didn't pioneer anything. There were women wrestlers at the turn of the century, and they all fought men during that era. Why? Because there weren't very many women's wrestlers period. It was considered a huge deal when two women wrestlers met. An this practice didn't change until after Mildred Burke became prominent and it was her husband Billy Wolfe that made the charge of really promoting and training women's wrestlers. Burke herself fought over 150 intergender matches and never lost any. Chyna on the other hand did. And intergender matches still remain commonplace today. Sara Del Rey has a win over Antonio Cesaro and Awesome Kong has a win over Seth Rollins... for example.

Point is Chyna isn't that special because she was booked against men over women... lots of women have worked intergender matches and have even held men's belts. Trish Stratus, Jackie Moore, Madusa, and Daffney all come to mind....

And her opponent Madison Eagles isn't an exception. She's fought intergender matches and the elite journeywomen on the indy circuit. In 2011 PWI named her the top women's wrestler in the world for a reason. So clearly her skill can't be denied.

The most interesting thing about this match is the fact that Eagles isn't a small woman. She's over 6'0 and 165 pounds. Chyna on the other hand is 5'9 and around 190 pounds. She's the stronger of the two, clearly, but she gives up quite a bit of height. Eagles is faster and more technically sound than Chyna, who was more of a brawler. She's also likely to be the better striker, from what I have seen from her.

The reason why Chyna was pushed so invincibly in the women's division is that she was so much taller, bigger, and stronger than all the other women. WWE didn't have someone like Eagles that they could push as an equal to her. Hell, they didn't even have a Beth Phoenix or Victoria who took up the "resident powerhouse" mantel after Chyna retired.

At this point I'm on the fence for the match. I recognize what Chyna has done for the industry, but I also realize how much much she hurt the division as a whole. TBH I am leaning Chyna right now, but only for the recognizably factor. I could probably be swayed...

Fuck Chyna, she was a prop not a wrestler. She has memorable moments and was pretty well over at points in her career but her skills were limited, her matches were terrible to eh, and her size which was the biggest factor her while career wouldnt even be one in this match.

Despite all that, I'm still probably going to vote for her just because of her influence and being a bigger draw then Eagles. Usually Playboy covers aren't really a good way to gauge drawing power but IIRC she had of the best selling issues of all time.

I do love Eagles though.

The fact of the matter is there aren't too many women out there that have had as much influence on the wrestling industry as Chyna has and as much as some may hate it that's more than enough reason to vote for her over Madison Eagles here. She was so far ahead of every other girl in the WWE locker room and she was treated as such. Was she a great wrestler? No. Was she a good wrestler? That's questionable but it really doesn't matter, she's a name and a name people remember, even after all these years.

She could draw better than most guys, she had a presence among women wrestlers that was unmatched and she would made more of an impact on her first night than any current WWE Diva over the course of their entire career, even Trish and Lita can't touch Chyna when it comes to being a draw and quite frankly, that means more than just going in the ring and putting on good matches every night.

I've no reservation giving my vote to Eagles.

Chyna was an oddity who neither benefited the women's or men's division - she couldn't wrestle, she couldn't talk, she had a distinctive look... kind of a prototype Great Khali. If it hadn't been for the super over DX, she'd have just been another Nicole Bass.

Madison Eagles, on the other hand, has made her mark the old fashioned way - by being bloody good! She is the only winner of the PWI50 that has never worked either WWe or TNA... or a major Japanese promotion... or a major Mexican promotion!

Don't let rose tinted nostalgia shades blind you folks, vote for the talented over the lucky!

I'm not a huge fan of Chyna, and never really have been. She's not all that special just because she's ripped, wrestled with men, or anything else for that matter. She was nothing more than a porno, and the worst member of degeneration-X.

Eagles on the other hand, as previously mentioned, is quite quite talented in the ring, fun to watch, talented, and quite beautiful. Gotta go with Eagles.

I have to go with Chyna, she was a legitimate big star in a period when WWE was hotter than ever. She was more than just a valet for DX, she was an important member of the faction and a legitimate star who broke barriers for women wrestlers in WWE, becoming the first female to ever compete in the Royal Rumble and win the Intercontinental Championship. That was a BIG deal at the time.

Just look at the reaction when she was announced as the final member in the Battle Royal to get the number 30 spot in the 1999 Royal Rumble, the fans loved her. She was a hero to many women as a strong female they could look up to.

Yeah she ruined it by going off the rails, making a horrific porno with X-Pac and eventually being a total mess but for a period of time, in WWE's hottest period...she was a very important member of the roster. Not the greatest in the ring, but more than capable of holding her own and was always involved in storylines.

I have to give my vote to Chyna. Her impact on the wrestling business is far greater.

My vote goes with Chyna without question. We can argue about what Madison Eagles has done, but we also must look at what Chyna has done as well. Some call her a prop wrestler but that is highly arguable. Nicole Bass was more of a prop wrestler than Chyna ever was. Chyna was a physical marvel and had no equal in the ring in terms of strength. Certainly, there were much better womens wrestlers in the sport. The hardest hits of any female wrestler have to be used against Chyna. One only has to wonder how much of Chyna's strength she didn't use en route to an undefeated run as womens champion. She has no physical peer.

If Chyna had gone to WCW instead of the E coming out of Killer Kowalski's school, how great would she have been? Chyna will always be "What if?" How much of this was Joanie Laurer, and how much of this was Trips/Shawn Michaels political maneuvering? Would Laurer really have beaten Jeff Jarrett if Jarrett was not given a fortune by VKM to lay down? Sure, she leaves a legacy of girls who became wrestlers because of her. However, we can make that same argument with Madusa, Bull Nakano and several others. Remember, at the time Laurer left Kowalski's school, it was WCW that had the bigger stars in Women's wrestling on their roster. When she got frozen out of the WWF, she had a cup of coffee with NJPW. Why did she not join All Japan Women's? GAEA? JWP? Even an outfit like jdStar? Maybe it was money? Or, maybe she was what she really was: a freak show attraction who would have been exposed by a Nagayo or a Toyota. Her stints in the Adult industry hurts her legacy even more. She is now teaching English in Japan, still ranting on Stephanie and Trips, not realizing that she dodged a bullet on Trips.

Madison Eagles ranks with Chyna in all the right ways: Size, strength and power. She is also a better wrestler who has fought Cheerleader Melissa, Del Rey, MsChif, and a young girl named Tenille Tayla, better known as Emma, someone many of us considers one of the better Divas on the roster. Madison Eagles not only wrestles, but she trains and develops the future in her own Pro Wrestling Women's Alliance in Australia. Nobody will ever accuse Eagles of being a freak show.

There are those that will vote for Chyna because she was in the big company, on the biggest stage, and on the biggest screens. However, those people miss the bigger picture. Chyna did little to advance the cause of Women's wrestling. Eagles does it on a daily basis. Chyna fought few women in her time in WWF. Eagles has wrestled both men and women, and some of the best women wrestlers in the world. And, she did this while being in the Indies, and not in TNA or the E. In this fight, I see Eagles and Chyna in a decent fight. But, when it comes to wrestling, we will see the freak show come to an abrupt end. If you care about Women's wrestling, if you believe that great women's wrestling can happen without the poisoned apple that is the WWE Divas Division, then you know where to place your vote: Madison Eagles will get mine. I hope she gets yours as well.

Success against men is a nice ace in the hole for all of the women in this tournament to compliment their successes in women's divisions. But I don't feel that card can really be played for Joanie Laurer. The fact is that this is a tournament for women's wrestlers, and aside from a single two month stint in the spring of 2001, Joanie does not qualify as a women's wrestler.

Outside of April and May of 2001, Laurer doesn't have a single notable win over a female competitor at any other point in her career. And even her WWE women's title reign is a joke, as it only included one successful defense before she vacated the company.

Madison Eagles on the other hand has been a dominant force in women's wrestling over the last few years. She boasts an 18 month run as Shimmer world champion, including successful defenses against the likes of Serena Deeb, Hamada, Sara Del Rey, and Cheerleader Melissa(those four wins alone combining to outshine the entirety of Joanie Laurer's career wrestling women). In 2011 she was ranked number one on the PWI Female 50.

If you value success against men while not at all taking into account the fact that this is tournament of Women's wrestlers, or you are attracted to national starpower that was created strictly as a result of politics and sideshow appeal, then by all means vote for Joanie Laurer. If you have come here to attempt to crown the best WOMEN's wrestler of all time, then vote honestly and put Madison Eagles through to advance on to compete against an actual women's wrestler of like accomplishments.

Talent is gonna trump freakshow here. If not for Shawn\Trips, then Chyna would have broken in eventually but not had nearly the impact or screen time she ended up with. Her matches were largely trash whether it was vs a man or woman & I could care less that she was big\scary looking. For me she will be remembered for her intimidating stares while standing behind DX, her fucked up relationship with XPac & the storyline with Eddie. Other than that her time was largely a blur to me.

Eagles is a flat out better wrestler & accomplished a ton without ever being part of the bigger promotions. Talent trumps exposure & I just enjoyed her matches more than I did Chyna's. She had one run with a title that outweighs anything Chyna did in her combined runs & that seals the deal for me.
