Ahh yeah, I probably was right in there defending it. Boogie Nights is one of my all time favorite films, PT Anderson is a fucking genius. What about it didn't you like again?

Oh and Murf you big ol' puss. I grew up on horror films, watching people get limbs hacked off and shit when I was 6 years old. Maybe this explains why I turned out so twisted.

(Edited my post accordingly NSL :D)

Its funny that you mentioned Donnie Darko, X. I just watched that movie for the first time like two weeks ago (even though I've had it on my computer for like six months) and I was blown away. I had heard it was good, but I was really surprised by how understated the acting was, yet how powerful. It felt very low-budget and indie while I was watching it, but I think that was intentional. I don't know if I would put it on my top 5 list, or even my top 10, but definitely my top 20.

All of the above probably means you hated it...

On a side note, have you ever seen the movie Lesbian Vampire Killers? I watched that a few days ago, fully expecting it to be silly, stupid, campy and sophomoric. It turned out to be silly, stupid, campy and sophomoric, but surprisingly enjoyable...

Fuck yes JMT, totally agree on Halloween. The original is possibly my all time favorite film ever except for Blue Velvet. You didn't dig Part 3 though? It gets hated on alot, but it's fucking great.

I got real pissy the first time I watched it and found out Michael Myers wasn't in it, and I haven't tried watching it since. I should though after hearing you say that.

And yeah I guess this is the first time we've ever disagreed on a movie, lol. I got one for ya, what'd you think of Donnie Darko? That one is always either loved or hated, I won't tell you my thoughts on it until I hear yours.

Dude, I've seen you post your love for that film, and yeah... it's one more case where we disagree. I wouldn't say that I hated Donnie Darko because I did like a couple of things about it, but yeah... overall, I'm not a fan.

Interesting note though, not sure if you know this or not, but Raven is one of my all time favorite wrestlers and it was his review of the film that made me go rent the DVD. He quite hated it, but his taste in film has always sucked, so I thought it was going to be awesome, lol. I'll post the review, if you like.

Its not that i dont like it, I thought it was fine. Just grossly overrated.

Oh, I think this ranks right up there with the greatest threads I have ever made...

...right next to "Feminism in literary analysis...ugh".

Since I've already talked to the other movie fans about it...What'd you think of Brick NorCal?

Not at all man, I adore Donnie Darko. Still remains one of my to films ever. Donnie Darko was the first film I ever watched that made me question the standard "rules" of a movie, it opened my eyes up to an entire new world of filmmaking as an artform and not a for-profit business. I credit Donnie Darko with my entire interest in the art of film, because it totally turned me on my ass when I first saw it on a random rental based soley on the cover way back when I was like 14. The film is like a beautiful dream to me, from the soundtrack to the acting to the girl-next-door beauty of Jena Malone, it really changed how I view movies forever.

Haven't gotten around to seeing that one as all the reviews I've read have been so-so. Maybe I'll try and find a copy online now though, I love me some silly, stupid and campy movies.

Oh yeah definately give it another chance. Bits of it are genuinely frightening, and the ending is pretty downbeat and chilling. Forget about it as a Michael Myers film and think of it as just an 80s horror film. And I mean, dude I know you're a big movie guy so you should know that Tom Atkins is pretty much fucking God himself. Anything with Tom Atkins I will immediately watch (ever seen Night of the Creeps? CLASSIC). I love the third film, it can get pretty ridiculious at times but that's all in it's campy Halloween spirit.

Oh and I'm sure you all know my feelings on Brick. Brick rocks, and rocks hard.

Lesbian Vampire Killers has a lot of British humor, gratuitous boob shots, an absolutely silly premise, and somehow does not star Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, even though it feels like it should. But somehow it works, and comes off as entertaining, as long as you can turn your brain off while you watch it.

Shocked that X had standard 'rules' for a movie at 14.

Shocked that X saw the movie business as completely 'for profit' at any point.

Yeah I mean I was a product of my generation man, I grew up on horror films like Scream and comedies like American Pie. Not exactly art-films. But Donnie Darko I credit with peaking my interest in a movie breaking all of the rules I thought a movie had to have. Also led me into surrealism and David Lynch. Darko holds an incredibly special place in my heart, even if years later I realize it isn't the greatest film ever made like I thought at one point.

Plus the soundtrack is just god damned AMAZING. Echo & the Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon"? Amazing. Tears For Fear's "Head Over Heels"? Double amazing. The Church's "Under the Milky Way Tonight"? Triple amazing.

Ohhhhh SNAP! Don't get me started on my love for Predator dude.

One of my earliest memories in my freakin' life was staying up late and watching Predator with my dad when I was like 6. Predator and Jaws were definately my two favorite movies as a kid, and me and my friends would constantly play games based on those movies. Me and my best friend used to grab his laser-tag guns and run around his house shooting "Predators" (AKA stuffed animals).

Predator might just be the best action movie ever IMO (with a healthy dose of sci-fi obviously). I mean, it's just flawless. This is why Arnie was the man back then. Plus Carl Weathers? Pffft, sign me up. And Jesse Ventura? I mean, could that movie be any cooler? Contains possibly the greatest line in the history of movies, delivered by Jesse Ventura: "I ain't got time to bleed..."

Yeah, I love Predator KB, fucking LOVE it.

Predator is a fucking classic...I have an unhealthy love for it. anything after that is shit though...

What you mean about Sonny Landham's racism and craziness? Yeah, thats a shame. I'm pretty sure he was in 48 Hrs too. Shame.

Predator = GOD. Arnold + Carl Weathers + Jesse Ventura + Bill Duke? Sign me the fuck up.

YOU SON OF A BEEIITCH

me and my buddies still do the muscle handshake between Carl Weathers and Arnie, while saying that. back in the day, a lot of friday and saturday nights we would just say to each other

"man fuck it. lets just get pizza and watch Predator"

Only reason I ask is Landham is in my Middle Eastern politics class. My professor mentioned it and I looked over and almost fell out of my chair.

What?! Seriously?! Awesome! Dude...pictures....get them. Find some way to work an actual Predator into them.

He's in your Middle Eastern Politics class though?! ROFLMAO, you know he called for the genocide of ALL Arabs man? If that isn't irony, I don't know what is.

I'll try to sneak one in with my cell phone. Yeah the irony is great. he asks about 20 questions a class, most of the time with NO CLUE what he's talking about. The professor, an Iranian, looks like he wants to blow Landham's head off for the stupiditiy of what he asks.

Convo died here :(

How about anyone's opinions on one of my personal favorites, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind??
