Bullshit about Movies

Yeah, it's shit. Not gory (major points lost), and not even that scary. The Descent and even Frontiere(s) did a much better job of depicting blood-thirsty subterranean humanoids on a rampage.

Come on TDigs, are you hearing yourself? Who cares if it's not gory, anyone who judges a film by amount of bloodshed is being pretty foolish. Gore would be nice if this were meant as a brutal horror film, but it isn't. It's a suspense film through and through and a great one at that. I can't believe you didn't like it, the acting from the two main leads was tremendous. Shit how can you possibly love Funny Games but hate Ils?

Besides, Them isn't about subterranean humanoids on a rampage. At all. Are you sure you're thinking of the right film?

Psychopathic children who play in tunnels and kill people...what's the difference between them and blood-thirsty, subterranean humanoids on a rampage, except for a few variations in DNA? No, gore isn't important, but, it can usually redeem a film that is worthless otherwise. I didn't find Ils suspenseful at all...I say leave the suspense to the Asians.

going to see either D9 or IB tonight, depending on when I get out of this office after fufilling my stupid ass shit quota for the day. D9 is looking like itll be the one, since it starts a bit later

Right on brother, let me know what you think. You'll dig it I'm sure.

Just got done watching Frontiers again TDigs. Them is better in my opinion. Frontiers is good...but it's not nearly as creative as Them is. Frontiers follows the same tired "crazy quasi-cannibal family in the woods" formula that has been done a thousand times before. It's a very good film, but I wouldn't classify it as great, and I certainly thought Them was better. Figured I'd give it another viewing just to see how the two would compare.

That's cool, but I don't think Frontiere(s) was a good movie...it was all right. I just thought Ils was terrible, and thus that Frontiere(s) was good in comparison to it.

Weren't you talking about Xavier Gens earlier? I figured you were a fan of Frontiers.

Different taste I guess. I thought Ils was wonderful.

And Ils was not at all comparable to Frontiers. They're completely different films. Ils is a suspense film, Frontiers is a gorefest. Kind of stupid to compare them. That's like comparing Psycho to Combat Shock.

Yeah, Frontiere(s) wasn't all that good, but it shows that Gens has potential. His next film is about cannibals, and the rumored cast is awesome. There's nothing holding this man back except a sizable budget and a good screenwriter

And, huh? Combat Shock was about a crazy, impoverished Vietnam vet with an agent orange baby. Psycho was about a crazy motel keeper who kills some lady in a shower. Ils has many more points of comparison with Frontiere(s) than those two films do. Is that what they call boring horror movies without any gore these days? Suspense films? Shit, man, The Last House In The Woods was better than Ils, and I hate that movie (mainly because I bought into its hype and imported the PAL DVD before it came out here...big mistake).

Whatever floats your boat TDigs. But your criticisms are pretty ridiculous. Yes TDigs, suspense films do in fact still exist. Seen The Orphanage? Ils had me on the edge of my seat, I loved the fact that they didn't reveal the killers until the very end of the film, made it much more frightening. More so than just "crazy Nazi Cannibals killing people in the woods", which while always enjoyable, I didn't think was as good as Ils.

And yes, The Last House in the Woods is shit.

Ils, however, is not. I seriously don't understand how you can love Funny Games, but hate Ils.

Ils and The Orphanage are completely different films. And, hypothetically speaking, if they were both classified as suspense films, they'd be two totally different types, the former shock-driven, the latter mystery-driven. Except, Ils doesn't really deliver that many shocks. Let's analyze its short, 77-minute runtime: interesting prologue (5 minutes), boring and pointless interaction between lovers in a big house (25 minutes), pretty uneventful cat-and-mouse game (30 minutes), a chase in underground Romanian tunnels (15 minutes), and add on the credits for your total.

Also, you'll have to explain how, logically speaking, it can't be the case that I love Funny Games but hate Ils. Funny Games wasn't even meant to be a suspense film, or a horror film; it was meant to piss people off and make them question their assumptions as viewers.

I always wanted to find out what people thought about the movie Cool Runnings.

I loved that movie growing up and I still enjoy it very much now. Fun and funny and the late John Candy is hilarious.

Since Halloween 2 is coming out, or something, I watched Halloween yesterday. It's pretty dece.

I enjoyed the remake. The childhood scenes were rather terrible (white trash Myers family? Fucking kill me now), but the second half was damn good as a modern slasher film, and both Scout-Taylor Compton and Danielle Harris were excellent (and two of the hottest women on the face of the planet in my book).

I mean, just the fact that Danielle Harris was in it made it an instant win. Good cast, Malcolm McDowell and Brad Dourif? Nice. Obviously it's nothing compared to the original, but for a remake I think it's pretty good and doesn't deserve all the hate it gets from most Halloween fans.

Looking forward to seeing H2 on Friday as well man, been counting down the days.

Going to see Inglorious Basterds FINALLY today, I'll let everyone know what I thought of Tarantino's latest later.

I thought of this while posting in the 'film that scared you thread'. While it didn't scare me 'The Lost Boys' is one of my favorite movies. I have seen it countless times, just again last week. The sequel was a piece of trash, highly disapointing and just dumb. Any thoughts on either of these movies?

We have quite a bit in common man. The Lost Boys is also one of my all time favorites, and a movie I've seen like 9000 times since I was a kid, and never, ever get tired of. That movie is a summer staple in my house and gets played atleast a few times a year, I never ever get tired of that movie. Just fucking brilliant from start to finish.

Were you unfortunate enough to view the sequel, titled 'The Lost Tribe'? It was a direct to dvd release last year with plans to release a third. Kieffer Sutherland's little brother was in it, as well as the two Coreys. Since you love the original you should see it but it really disapointed me.

Ok so, after seeing both

District 9 rocked my socks

as much as it fucking KILLLS me to say this...

Inglorious Basterds....um, kinda fuckin sucked. I was VERY disappointed.

Haha I just came back from seeing it too Norcal. I knew as soon as I left the theater "Norcal is going to HATE most of this movie!", and here you are haha. Not enough Nazi killin' and violence for your taste eh?

I really liked it. It wasn't nearly as good as I was hoping it would be, but it was certainly very, very good. The use of Ennio Morricone's music through out the film was god damn AMAZING, that had to be one of the very best scores I've EVER heard in a film, ever. And Christoph Waltz was fuckin' AMAZING as Hans Landa.

I bet you loved the ending though huh?

There was definitely quite a bit that they should have edited from the film though, a lot of the subplots were completely unnecessary. Less scared Jewish woman, more murderous Basterds please.

Everything you said good about the film was totally correct. Everything bad you said about it REALLY fucking ruined it. During the bar scene, I went to the bathroom, and came back, and said to my friend "oh they are still in the bar...im just absolutely shocked../sarcasm"

Honestly, could those two middle scenes have BEEN any fucking longer? fuck man.

Hey, dont blame me for the ad campain. Act like the way that movies was advertised, and what it ended up being were ANYTHING alike. The basterds, and Pitt himself, were in the movie LESS than everyone the fuck else!!

I LOVED Inglourious Basterds. I agree that the bar scene ran on too long, but other than that... I don't have a complaint about it. So far it's definitely my MOTY for 2009.

I loved Inglorious Basterds. The Bar Scene? Yeah, it dragged, but I didn't think it was bad.

I fucking loved the opening scene and the introduction of Hugo Stigletz.
