Bullshit about Movies

It was okay. The ending sort of ruined it though. It was completely unrealistic and ridiculous. I hate it when a movie pulls you in, just to smack you across the face at the end. WWE does that all the times with most of their television matches.

I wasn't much a fan of the ending. If the mother played a more prominent role in the movie then maybe I would have bought it. But they never gave much background on her and I felt like she was just "there." Connor creeped me out anyway with the things she was telling Nina and was mad at her because she lied to him about being able to talk and hear. I was thinking that maybe Nina didn't want to hear Connor tell her those kinds of things..lol

I watched The Last House On The Left remake last night...not bad. But, it was more of a thriller than a gritty sexploitation revenge flick.

I thought it was a decent remake. Doesn't exactly contain the intelligence of The Virgin Spring though does it?

The Virgin Spring > Last House on the Left > Remake

What'd you think of that ending?

To be totally honest with you man, I'm not very knowledgeable about Ingmar Bergman...I've only seen two of his movies. But, if you're talking about Last House On Left, then I thought the ending was nice and gory.

...Not knowledgeable about Bergman?! You call yourself a film buff?! :p

I love the man's films to death. The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, The Virgin Spring (which Last House on the Left was basically just a modern re-imagining of), The Silence, & Fanny and Alexander are just a taste of his amazing work.

Which Bergman films have you seen? You really should view some more of his stuff, he was truly a genius. At the very least The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries & The Virgin Spring are all required viewing.

I'm not that big of a fan of his work, to be honest. I've seen The Seventh Seal and Fanny and Alexander, and I wasn't blown away by either. I probably would have liked him more though if I hadn't already been exposed to Robert Bresson and Andrei Tarkovsky.

One of the only criticisms I have on Bergman is that he isn't exactly subtle when it comes to symbolism, but I think that's actually a part of his charm. Maybe I just love his work so much because of my unnatural love for Max von Sydow.

Tarkovsky is wonderful as well but I've never really been able to get into Bresson outside of The Trial of Joan of Arc. I should really see more of his work though, I've only seen Trial and Pickpocket.

Let us know how it is Murf. I'll be seeing it some time tomorrow night. Seems like the kind of film that would really benefit from me watching it drunk.

So the local theater had to late night showings...

Post Grad and Inglorious Basterds

Who in their right mind would pick Post FUCKING Grad to see at 12:01?

Ever see The Promotion, X? I saw it a couple of months ago. It's extremely depressing for a comedy film. But anyway... I'm watching it right now, and I completely forgot Pil's "Rise" was featured in this movie. I mark every time I hear this song just because of The Rules of Attraction.

A few months back when it came on Starz or whatever channel. Mediocre.

I actually kind of like that about it. It just overall wasn't very good. Not even my love for John C. Reilly could make me like that film.

But anyway... I'm watching it right now, and I completely forgot Pil's "Rise" was featured in this movie. I mark every time I hear this song just because of The Rules of Attraction.

Oh I mark out as well bud, I've long been a PIL fan before I'd ever even seen TROA, but now I always associate it with that film.

Fuck, I need to watch TROA tonight. Perhaps I should take a psychedelic journey along with it.

Have you seen The Informers yet?

Oh shit, this movie also has REO Speedwagon's "Time for me to fly", lmao. I forgot all about that.

I also watched Casino the other night and heard a song that was featured in TROA. I can't fucking remember what song it was though.

Have you seen The Informers yet?

Not yet. It comes out next week though. I'll probably pick it up then or the Friday after that.

I plan of getting the Tyson documentary tomorrow. Cannot fucking wait to watch that. Also, of course... Inglorious Basterds tomorrow as well. I'll make sure to let you know my thoughts on that, though I'm sure I'll love it.

Moveover, haven't forgotten about District 9. I'm going to see that Saturday for sure.

Without You by Harry Nillson is in both films. One of the saddest songs ever.

I've got it on my computer, but I hate watching movies on my laptop. Might just rent it. I've heard very good things about it from BEE fans, who are the only ones I trust when it comes to critiquing his films. The critics didn't like The Rules of Attraction, so they're fucking idiots.

Damn skippy you better go see District 9. Considering how much we love the same movies, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Really blew me away, one of the best Sci-Fi films I've ever seen.

Tyson looks very interesting as well, I'll have to get my hands on it.

And I'll likely be seeing Basterds tomorrow as well, so we'll have to discuss it tomorrow night!

Ahh yes, thank you. I'm about to download that right now.

I'm the exact same way. If it's longer than 20 minutes, I ain't watching it over the computer.

It was mixed from the fans I read. BEE himself has trashed it, and personally... I thought the trailer looked absolutely atrocious. But it's a Bret Easton Ellis Adaptation... so of course none of that matters to me. I'm watching it with an open mind.

We'll see. Like I said about The Informers... I'm going to have an open mind walking into that theater.

Can't wait. :)

I'm watching the original Poseidon Adventure right now, fuck I love this movie. I love disaster movies, they're my biggest weakness. Such a great ensemble in this flick. I know the remake was shit on, but I thought it was actually quite enjoyable.

Anyone else love disaster films as much as I do?

I actually hate them with a passion. Not because I think those movies suck or anything; it's just my biggest fear in life is being alive at the End of the World, or being apart of some huge disaster, so I can't even bring myself to watch movies that revolve around those situations. I haven't watched not one since I was a kid. Hell, the scene in T2 where Sarah Conner watches the kids play in the park and that big explosion goes off gives me the fucking willies to this day whenever I watch it (usually I fast forward), lol.

District 9 having potential to be that is initially what turned me off about it, but since it's obviously way more than that, that's why I'm giving it a shot.

Oh dude District 9 is not any way, shape, or form a disaster film of any kind. I don't want to spoil anything for you, but the humans are really the bad guys in this film, not the aliens. It's not some shitty Independence Day rip off or something like that, definitely not a disaster film.

Went to watch D9 before going out tonight, didnt have high hopes, but all i can say is WOW, i love it, a must see, even if you dont like sci fi films, it offers soooo much more!

You see people? I've yet to hear a SINGLE person say they haven't liked this movie. 88% Approval at Rotten Tomatoes is nothing to scoff at. Do yourself a favor, don't see some braindead piece of shit like GI Joe, go see District 9, and let Hollywood know that movies can be fun, exhilerating, epic, and intelligent and meaningful all in the same get-go. Amazing film.
