AQUAMAN

Meat Boy

Dark Match Winner
This thread is dedicated to my favorite superhero Aquaman

I never understood why so many people don't like Aquaman. He has always been my favorite. As young as I can remember I was always really into the ocean life and what happens down there so thats why Aquaman caught my attraction. He has a bunch of cool powers and look how many superheros we have above land keeping the people safe and look at Aquaman he's down there all by himself and theres a lot more ocean then there is land. I also liked him because he was the only superhero to go grudge in the 90s Have any read the Aquaman The New 52 I read the first 4 issues they were great I don't want to give to much away but Aquaman is a legit bad ass in the new series I suggest that any comic fan should check it out issue 5 came out today and I can't wait to get it. I always wondered why the haven't made a Aquaman movie yet. I mean they made a Jonah Hex movie but not Aquaman. I think if they got right people to make it and had a good story it could do really well. How many more Aquaman fans are hear and would love to see a Aquaman movie

The reason there isn't as much media related to Aquaman these days is because he is seen as inferior to a lot of the more popular superheroes such as Superman, Batman, etc. He has a really cool ability in being able to communicate with fish. That's great and all, but most crimes occur above water. When Aquaman is above water he is no more powerful than a regular civillian. I don't dislike the character, but he is viewed as cheesy and inferior by many, at least from what I have noticed.

I think that a film about Aquaman could be a good idea, but only if done well. It could showcase his abilities to communicate with fish which would be needed to accomplish an important mission underwater. This film can potentially be a success, all it needs is a good story. It could help make Aquaman popular again.... Or it could turn even more people against him if it ends up being too cheesy. Perhaps people think it would end up being too cheesy or that it would not generate enough interest and therefore he would not be worth making a film about. I'd watch it if they made one.

The thing is, that incarnation of Aquaman that's popularized is from an old cartoon show (Superfriends), that is nothing like the comics version, who is a major badass.

To quote Tropes:
He can summon sea life. ALL sea life. Do you know how many living things exist within a cubic mile of ocean? That's not even taking into account the strength, durability and sheer force of will he possesses.

He commands all sea life, furthermore he's one of the most powerful telepaths in the entire DCU due to the fact that all life of earth (and several other planets) evolved from the sea and he can use his powers to tap into that part of the brain to control whatever the hell he wants.Even if he only talks to current aquatic life, think of all the water-based horrors we fall victim to. Stinging jellyfish, killer whales, sharks. (Note from Hash: Hell, think of all the shit that we haven't seen yet that's too deep for us to safely get to.)

Not to mention that, as has been pointed out elsewhere on this wiki, his skillset makes Aquaman effectively the ruler of over three quarters of our planet's surface. He's also not above pointing it out himself when people start giving him lip.

And that doesn't account for his Required Secondary Powers. He can swim really fast and get into fistfights under 500+ atmospheres of pressure. Yet he doesn't explode when he comes up to sea level. Anyone who knows the physics behind this will realize that this makes him every bit as strong and Nigh Invulnerable as Superman.

You know, I never gave much thought to Aquaman. His original character was incredibly lame, having only the basic powers and needing to be within range to use his telepathic powers. After doing some research I realize that they have made him progressively more awesome over time, if for no other reason than mainstream fans just don't care about the "king of the seas". I suppose you have to give it to DC for continuing to push something DIFFERENT. It just always upset me that they seemed to always going against their own rules when dealing with Aquaman. Time and time again they pushed the fact that he can't survive outside of water for long periods of time, but every single time I saw him interacting with others like Batman or Superman, or in off-shoots like Smallville he was OUT of the water!

It's really cool that he can control aquatic life. That would come in really handy if a terrible enemy was...in the water... I'm all about the origin story, and his just keeps getting more crazy and convoluted as they progress. I'm glad they finally turned him into a badass. But do you know who else is a badass? Batman. Wolverine. The Tick.

I'll give Aquaman this...I care about him more than Superman.

I will have to agree with you on the fact that most crimes occur above water, which is true. Crimes below water would suit Aquaman better, but unfortunately there aren't many of them. I don't like Aquaman, but I don't dislike him either. He is ok, but I've noticed some people don't like him.

I'll have to agree here as well, at first I though an Aquaman film could be a good idea if done poorly, but after further deliberation an Aquaman film that was done well would be better. I also agree that it should have a good story opposed to a bad one.

It could help make Aquaman popular again.... Or it could turn even more people against him if it ends up being too cheesy. You're spot on once again, if they made a bad film about Aquaman people may not like it, which would be a negative for the Aquaman franchise. This situation would not be ideal.

Bottomline, I think Aquaman is pretty good cause he can talk underwater, but not so good at other stuff. They could make a movie about him, but I think it'd be better if it was a well done movie with a good story as opposed to a poorly made movie with a bad story. I hope everything turns out well for Aquaman!

I do like Aquaman because I was always interested in the ocean and scuba diving as a kid. I just think writers would have a really hard time writing a compelling story focused on the ocean. Anything outside that realm is beyond the scope of his capabilities. He is cool and all, but he would just be too tough to focus a movie on him. Maybe if they ever made a Superfriends movie to counter the Avengers, he'd have a chance. That would be pretty cool to see the SF versus Darkseid.
