Album and Concert Review Thread

Yeah...see, all of that falls under the category of "opinion". You don't think their lead singer can sing but obviously a lot of people do because they're a highly successful band.

No, they were a marginally successful band. Then people started to realize they were shit, and a group actually sued after Stapp was so drunk he failed to perform a single song at his concert.

Also, just because a lot of people like them doesn't mean they're any good. Masses buy Nickelback and Soulja Boy merchandise. You can't begin to tell me there is any sort of musical quality to their songs.

Can I pick all the ones where they just "sample" a previous hit song?

Sure, the lazy assholes who don't actually make music. Or you can pick the multitude of others, or perhaps the clear majority, that actually make clearly original songs and beats and lyrics. Which Creed nor the majority of shitty rock bands these days have been able to succeed at.

If just having those few characteristics made you Prog Rock, pretty much every 80's Metal Band would be classified as such.

Which would make sense, because there was a resurgence of Prog Rock in the 80's that bled into the 90's and this millennium. It's no coincidence that Coheed and Cambria list bands such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Police, Misfits, Queen, and Thin Lizzy as influences.

Here's a tip: If a bands songs are played on mainstream Rock radio and they sell their T-shirts at the Hot Topic, they're probally not Prog Rock.

1) Can people of all musical inclinations not listen to Coheed and Cambria, or other Prog Rock bands now? Or is it just the angsty teen crowd that shops at Hot Topic?

2) Only a jackass would label a band by where they sell merch. Led Zeppelin T-Shirts are sold at Hot Topic. Are they no longer 70's rock? SOAD has a shirt or two there, are they any less whatever the fuck they are?

Go listen to some early Genesis and get back to me.

Go listen to Coheed and Cambria, look up what a Progressive Rock band actually is, stop listening to fucking Creed, and get back to me.

..See what I did there?

They've sold 35 million records, I wouldn't call that "marginally successful".

I really don't see what getting drunk and not being able to preform has to do with musical ability.

And Nickelback may suck but that doesn't mean their singer "can't sing", that's asinine.

Again, what planet does this happen on?

So White Lion and Stryper are Prog Rock. Wow, never knew. Thank you for informing me.

1) Can people of all musical inclinations not listen to Coheed and Cambria, or other Prog Rock bands now? Or is it just the angsty teen crowd that shops at Hot Topic?

Sure, they can. Do they? Not really. Anyone who considers Coheed and Cambria the epitome of musical genius is probably 12.

SOAD has a shirt or two there, are they any less whatever the fuck they are?

Aren't they Prog Rock? LOLZ.

Go listen to Coheed and Cambria, look up what a Progressive Rock band actually is, stop listening to fucking Creed, and get back to me.

Continued to show you know nothing about music? Yeah, I saw it.

They've sold 35 million records, I wouldn't call that "marginally successful".

I'm sorry. I meant to say "marginally good at anything other than shitting out horrible music that millions of stupid people will buy." Please forgive me.

I really don't see what getting drunk and not being able to preform has to do with musical ability.

It shows a lack of responsibility and musical integrity to show up to a gig so drunk you can't perform for the people who paid to watch you. That translates into being a horrible performer, which translates into not being able to do what musicians do.

And Nickelback may suck but that doesn't mean their singer "can't sing", that's asinine.

Actually, it does. Have you ever heard their lead singer sing? It's shit. Worse than Stapp, in fact.

Again, what planet does this happen on?

You don't listen to rap, do you? Naz, Mos Def, Notorious B.I.G, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, NWA, just to list a few.

So White Lion and Stryper are Prog Rock. Wow, never knew. Thank you for informing me.

I never said all of the bands were. I said that there was a resurgence of Prog Rock in the 1980s.

At any rate:

Neo-progressive rock is characterized by deeply emotional content, often delivered via dramatic lyrics and a generous use of imagery and theatricality on-stage.

If we take this definition, which we are because you have yet to give anything to the discussion other than "I'm on my high horse and I want to act as if I know music and not offer anything of any value," I think that some 1980's bands, which are referred to when the name Neo-Progressive Rock is used, fit the mold. Get with the times, dude.

Sure, they can. Do they? Not really.

Did you take a poll of everyone shopping at Hot Topic? Really? And what were the results, person with the polling capabilities of the United States Census Office?

Anyone who considers Coheed and Cambria the epitome of musical genius is probably 12.

Actually, I'm 19, and I find them pretty good.

And no one is arguing they are the epitome of musical genius. Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix are the Gods of Rock. I offered Coheed and Cambria as a real band, as opposed to the shit that is Creed. I have yet to see you actually refute this claim, except for the asinine attempts to refute my semantics. Which, incidentally, I have rebuked every time.

Aren't they Prog Rock? LOLZ.

I've always considered them Progressive Metal. But if they are either of these titles, then Coheed and Cambria obviously fits the same mold. Both experiment to great extents with their music and offer lyrics that are full of oddities. Both fulfill the basic requirements of progressive rock or progressive metal, which I have outlined once already.

Continued to show you know nothing about music? Yeah, I saw it.

Oh my god, you're thick-headed aren't you? You've "proven I know nothing about music" by defending Creed and trying to argue that Coheed and Cambria aren't Progressive Rock/Metal because they sell t-shirts at Hot Topic but System of a Down are.

Get over your seeming reluctance to admit that any band that expresses highly imaginative lyrics and "complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing" are essentially Progressive Rock.

I'm sorry. I meant to say "marginally good at anything other than shitting out horrible music that millions of stupid people will buy." Please forgive me.

Ok and once again that would fall under the category of opinion.

Hopefully that "clears it up" but continue to run around in circles instead of actually making valid points if you wish.

Yeah, rockstars NEVER get wasted. That's unimaginable.

Actually, it does. Have you ever heard their lead singer sing? It's shit. Worse than Stapp, in fact.

Actually he's a perfectly decent Alt-Rock vocalist. And Stapp is pretty much Eddie Vedder Jr. But I suppose Eddie Vedder is "shit" as well.

You don't listen to rap, do you? Naz, Mos Def, Notorious B.I.G, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, NWA, just to list a few.

Wait, wait, wait...let me get this straight. You're talking shit about a band which has musicians and a singer and praising people who talk over a melody someone else came up with? Wow. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I never said all of the bands were. I said that there was a resurgence of Prog Rock in the 1980s.

You said most. That's insane.

Did you take a poll of everyone shopping at Hot Topic?

Yes.

Actually, I'm 19, and I find them pretty good.

LOLZ Ok, it's all starting to make sense now.

And no one is arguing they are the epitome of musical genius. Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix are the Gods of Rock.

Actually Jimi Hendrix is probally the most overrated artist in the history of music.

Actually they're both Alt-Metal. As I said before, your "outline" would make pretty much every Metal band ever Prog Metal/Rock.

Oh my god, you're thick-headed aren't you? You've "proven I know nothing about music" by defending Creed and trying to argue that Coheed and Cambria aren't Progressive Rock/Metal because they sell t-shirts at Hot Topic but System of a Down are.

Oh my god, I was being SARCASTIC. System of a Down isn't Prog. Coheed and Cambria isn't Prog. My Chemical Romance isn't Prog. Fallout Boy isn't Prog. Snoop Doggy Dogg isn't Prog. :banghead:

Well, I could give a fuck less what genre of rock they fall into, or what number of records they sold, or who showed up to a concert drunk (OMG!)...I enjoy Creed and always have, simply because their music was inspirational to me at an important time in my life.

Does that mean I am all over their dick? No, there are some Creed songs I don't like. It just means that every time I hear their music, it brings back memories of that great time in my life. The same goes for when I hear Saliva, P.O.D., 3 Doors Down, Drowning Pool (with the original singer), and a couple of other bands that were big in 2001-2002. Don't get me wrong, my taste in music has expanded and changed since then...but that doesn't mean I don't get to enjoy them.

As soon as I heard that song come through the speakers in my truck, I got a few goosebumps, I'll admit. Creed is one of the few remnants from that time that can currently bring back the feelings I had through those years. And they are still a good band. Yes, Stapp was an asshole and he fucked up...but the band saw enough in him to redeem him and make a new fucking record. Damn, people, have you no redeeming qualities, which are found in most humans?

Yeah, rockstars NEVER get wasted. That's unimaginable.

Dude, there's a big difference between getting wasted and getting so shit faced you can't properly sing songs you wrote and have performed countless times for people who payed a shitload of money to see you. If you payed to go see a band in concert and their singer showed up so tanked he couldn't perfor, would you be angry or would you say "Oh, it's ok, he's a rock star so he's allowed to get drunk."

Ok and once again that would fall under the category of opinion.

Hopefully that "clears it up" but continue to run around in circles instead of actually making valid points if you wish.

I'm making perfectly valid points. It's you who seems to think that you defined every genre of music, and are the end all be all of opinions. However, sadly, Creed sucks. Because of reasons I've listed since the first post in this thread.

Yeah, rockstars NEVER get wasted. That's unimaginable.

You're excusing what he did? REALLY? He got so drunk, he couldn't perform for an audience that paid for him to do that very thing. How you could excuse such actions is unimaginable.

Actually he's a perfectly decent Alt-Rock vocalist. And Stapp is pretty much Eddie Vedder Jr. But I suppose Eddie Vedder is "shit" as well.

Stapp is shit, he can't sing worth anything. Ever hear him catch a note? I haven't either. Eddie Vedder Jr. can't sing, but his band backs him up with actual lyrics that mean half a shit, and musicality that's half decent. However, sadly, Creed fails that bar in every account.

Wait, wait, wait...let me get this straight. You're talking shit about a band which has musicians and a singer and praising people who talk over a melody someone else came up with? Wow. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

So what, people who come up with striking lyrics and rap them out in a most enjoyable manner aren't musicians? At least they're not bitches who can't sing, or "musicians" that can't come up with anything original.

You said most. That's insane.

I never did. I just said there was a resurgence of Prog Rock in the 80's. You said "pretty much every band in the 80's." I said "that makes sense." Sorry for being vague in my wording. I meant "It makes sense that some 80's bands were Prog Rock, because of that resurgence in Prog Rock that was seen in the 80's." Better?

Where is it? I'd really like to see your results.

LOLZ Ok, it's all starting to make sense now.

Oh geez, you're getting high and mighty because of your age, aren't you? Typical. If you're making yourself sound like a jackass, might as well make the other poster feel inferior because he's younger than you. Sorry, but that'll be a no go.

Actually Jimi Hendrix is probally the most overrated artist in the history of music.

Yeah...I'll just direct you to this:

LOLZ Ok, it's all starting to make sense now.

It goes much better here.

Actually they're both Alt-Metal. As I said before, your "outline" would make pretty much every Metal band ever Prog Metal/Rock.

No, they're Prog Metal. Sorry if you're getting hung up on Prog Rock as opposed to Prog Metal. Hell, I'll even use Neo-Progressive Metal if that makes you happy. Either way, they fulfill the same principles of Progressive Rock/Metal. Inventive rock/metal melodies, inventive lyrics, and overarching concepts.

Oh my god, I was being SARCASTIC. System of a Down isn't Prog. Coheed and Cambria isn't Prog. My Chemical Romance isn't Prog. Fallout Boy isn't Prog. Snoop Doggy Dogg isn't Prog. :banghead:

1) I never argued that Fallout Boy or MCR were Prog Rock. Neither did I Snoop Dog.

2) Yeah, SOAD and Coheed and Cambria are Progressive Rock/Metal. You're just hung up over this definition business, aren't you?

I like it personally. Creed have some good songs... Scott Stapp has a shit attitude, so thats one of the reasons I don't like Creed. The original movement of Grunge was where it's at, but these "Post-Grunge" bands (Puddle of Mudd, Seether etc.) sound cool, but almost always fail to deliver on a wide-scale. That's the same as you find here. It's almost like they try to hard to sound Grunge which is probably what makes them listenable - but only in bits and pieces.

For the little that I like Creed, I disliked Alterbridge even more and I think if the Creed instrumentalists are going to be in a band they should stay in Creed.

I'm making perfectly valid points. It's you who seems to think that you defined every genre of music, and are the end all be all of opinions. However, sadly, Creed sucks. Because of reasons I've listed since the first post in this thread.

Stop playing dumb. You know perfectly well all of your "valid points" are opinions. I'm not gonna run around in circles with you. You said they "suck". I said "they've sold an estimated 35 million records" which would make it appear that millions of people disagree with you. If you really can't understand which of those is fact and which of those is opinion, I have no idea how you even know how to type. So you're playing dumb and I'm done with it.

You're excusing what he did? REALLY? He got so drunk, he couldn't perform for an audience that paid for him to do that very thing. How you could excuse such actions is unimaginable.

LOL "Such actions"? A rockstar got too wasted to preform at a show, you're acting like he killed a man. Maybe...just maybe you're so "shocked and appalled" because it's a band you don't like. Maybe if it was a band you were a fan of, you'd be a little more forgiving. Just a hunch.

Ever hear him catch a note?

Yes. I'm begining to think you don't know what singing is.

Jay-Z doesn't sing. Maybe that will help the confusion.

So what, people who come up with striking lyrics and rap them out in a most enjoyable manner aren't musicians? At least they're not bitches who can't sing, or "musicians" that can't come up with anything original.

LOL I feel like a "cap is about to be busted"...

And you're backtracking so I'm done.

Seriously, this is an argument in print form, you can review what you say before you post it. If you're backtracking or "being vague in your wording", you're wasting my time.

Review:

Yes, for those that picked it up on the artist name, the album, the track listings and the album cover... this is indeed a death metal band, but the melodic kind.

This album is basically a covers album of previous songs perform by Arch Enemy back in the old days when their frontman and vocalist Johan Liiva was doing the screaming and entertaining audiences. This time around, all the songs have been re-recorded to feature new vocalist and frontwoman Angela Gossow... with features of the best live recordings of Gossow performing these songs.

I must say, the classics are hardly ever beaten by the covers... but this album comes very close in comparison. Though Johan Liiva did an extraordinary job whilst the band's vocalist, Angela has done a lot for the band where they have reached their best success with her as there aren't many women that can perform screaming and death grunting on a regular basis without going into clean vocals like Angela. These songs where built around Johan, but Angela and the band did a great job in re-creating the songs to suit her style and updated technology to deliver some crunching metal music.

Here is probably the best song on the album compared with the classic. Here is "The Immortal" sung by both singers:

For a cover album with Gossow as vocalist, this was a job well done by the band that was worth the 30 odd dollars I pitched out to own this album as mine. I give this a 4 out of 5 rating at the very least.

I'm not gonna act like i'm a longtime fan of this band or anything, i've heard of them, i've heard a few of their songs but don't remember anything to be honest. After hearing this album I fell in love with them. Their new drummer/back-up vocals: Jen Ledger had something to do with that.. My interest was peaked after the exposure they had from the WWE, what with a few of their tracks being in SvR 2010 and being PPV themes. I'm definitely loving this album. Christian Rock band it is. I just think the whole album has a hit play and listen all the way through vibe about it. It's a mix of upbeat, sad-type songs, rock songs. Hard to put it in words, lol. John Cooper has a real nice sounding voice, he fits the songs great. I love the album, you should definitely get this album. It's a solid listen.

Review:

Now I became a fan of Krizz Kaliko once I listened to his first album Vitiligo & while this album is nowhere near as good as Vitiligo is, this album is very good nonetheless though. I would say that my favorite songs out of all the tracks that are on this album are Backpack, Butt Naked Fun, Dead Wrong, So High, She'll Do, Hum Drum & Happy Birthday. The guests on this track for the most part are the usual guests that have appeared on past Strange Music albums (E-40, Tech N9ne, Kutt Calhoun, Tech N9ne, Big Scoob, DJ Chill, Skatterman & Snug Brim), but I thought the guests that delivered the most on these tracks are Tech N9ne & Kutt (Calhoun). On a scale of 1 to 10, I'll rate this album 8.5 out of 10 as this album is really good, but it still doesn't compare to Krizz Kaliko's debut album though. I would still pick this album up regardless though as it's one of the better rap albums that's been released this year.

Hey ho guys, I thought it was time for another album presentation thread. The Blood Red Shoes are a band that I got into about 2 years ago due to an ex of mine who was a really big fan. While the relationship might not have lasted I was able to keep the band afterwards :) I had actually forgotten about them but they came on my mp3 player randomly while I was out for a run and so I am back to the loving :p

The Blood Red Shoes are a two piece band based in Brighton England. Due to the nature of their composition, a guy and a girl playing drums and guitar respectively they are often compared to the White Stripes, a comparison that isn't really accurate. I am generally useless at defining a bands musical sound but I would say that the Blood Red shoes are a much more aggressive riff based band, which owes its roots more to Punk or Metal, than the Garage rock style of the White Stripes.

Box of Secrets was released in April last year and is their first major release, as previous to this they had only released a number of EP's. The album is typical of a number of first time releases by bands, that there are a number of really powerfull instense songs, a number of good songs, and then one or two which are a bit average. In all though it still is a pretty good album from a small band looking to rise up and gain popularity, and it was one of my favourites from last year. The raw emotion which characterises much of the album, that of a restless, fractious anger, never seems to let up and carries you though the album at a relentless pace. The lack of instruments is seemingly perfect for their style, anything more would cause a distraction from the single minded stripped down hard rock punch to the face.

One of the major singles released was "I wish I was someone better" and it perfectly illustrates the bands fast paced and hard hitting style. I have seen the Blood Red Shoes live twice and neither time did this song disappoint in managing to get the crowd riled up, despite the fact that there was only about 20 people at the second gig :)

Their other relatively big single was "Its getting boring by the sea" and again highlights their riff centred style of music. It was always a song that I could not help but dance along to whenever I hear it :)

My personal favourite song on the album is "This is not for you". It has a slightly different style from the other two singles, a bit more of a downbeat and darker musical style. Even the first time I heard this song I couldn't help but thinking whoa. :)

Finally, and this is really finally (as really I wonder if people really listen to more than one of any of the songs posted here ) is "Say Something, Say Anything". I include this song, not just because it is a pretty good song, but because it also represented one of the times when a song really leapt out of the speakers and into you, where I felt exactly what the singers were singing about at the time and it touched me. Anyways though, away from me- here is the song! :P

So yeah guys that the Blood Red Shoes, hopefully you guys will give these guys a listen, they are a small enough band and it would be great if they would receive more recognition and thus tour more :) And yeah I would appreciate people’s thoughts as well. That means you readers ;)

I'm sitting here listening to their new album, War Is The Answer, and I must say I'm thoroughly impressed. I loved Way Of The Fist, and this is a great follow-up. They're a great power metal band, and put on a hell of a live show. Their videos are all very good, and actually tell a story for the song, and that's something that is sadly missing lately in music. The story, as well as videos...

Ivan Moody is a solid screamer, but his clean vocals impress me just as much, and the entire band is great at writing their pieces, fitting in solos and drumrolls at all the right times.

So...What do you think? Fan or not?

It's really fucking simple, if you don't like Creed. Don't post in the thread, stop shitting on the people who actually find the band intersting and like the singing, like the guitar, no matter how "bland" you try to make them out to be. Scott Stapp has had his ups and downs just like half the rock singers out there, he's hit bottom and he's came back. They gave him another chance. I'm listening to the album right now, it's a pretty fucking solid album. I like it better then the last one, and I like Creed. I'm not calling them the best rock band that ever lived but i'd put them above half the shit that gets radio play right now. You're not gonna change our mind by coming in here and posting OPINIONS about how fucking bad you think the album or the band is. Jesus, listen to your little bands and leave the ones you don't like alone, stop wasting our time by coming in here and bashing bands who already have credibility of platinum records and whatever else. I don't personally care for AC/DC but I know that they're a damn good band, legendary to lots. Mark Tremonti owns the guitar, period. Creed is a band that you either love/hate. There's really no in between.

Anyone heard this album yet? It's pretty badass. I didn't feel like doing a whole review for it right now. I think the album is really cool, the beats and raps are different. They aren't the same shit that gets played on the radio everyday. It's real good, definitely check this out if you haven't already.

Slipknot 10/23/09

Well what a fucking birthday present. Holy shit this was amazing. Slipknot knows exactly how to fucking perform live and get a crowd flipping out. A prime example is Download fest 09. Go watch the videos on youtube of that shit and tell be it's not amazing. This concert did not dissapoint. For all you Slipknot fans out there you know the general songs Slipknot plays such as Sic, Eyeless, and Wait and Bleed, ETC, but for this concert they added a couple songs that are a rare treat from them. One of which was Dead Memories. Now keep in mind I hated this song and have always thought of it as Slipknots worst song, but after this night I love it. Another song that I have never ever heard live by them and they played that night was my personal favorite Slipknot song Snuff. This song shows Slipknots variety and how they can play different types of music. I absolutely lost it when they put this on. It was amazing. Best night of my life so far. Crowd was fucking fantastic and so was the band.

10/10

I stumbled upon this album by accident. I was watching some movie and Mos Def was in it, he wanted to own a bakery or something. I then remembered Mos Def was also a rapper, so I Wiki'd his ass. I found he came out with a new album called "The Ecstatic" on June 9, 2009. This album isn't for everyone. It's different. It's got this more old school feel to it. It's samples, the beats, they're real old school. The album has all kinds of styles in it; soul, jazz, funk, latin. It's been noted by music writers for it's out of the crate samples. Oh yeah, it's Def's first album since 2006. I just really like the album, the samples complete it. They're unique, the diversity in this album is incredible. Mos Def can sing a little bit too, so that adds to it. Like I said before, really big old school feel to this. Underground, whatever. The album is relatively short, about 45 minutes long, but that doesn't take away from it. It's a solid album in my own humble opinion. I'm impressed by Mos Def, he's a pretty good actor, real good rapper. He's got them both covered. Favorite song on here.. hmm.. Life in Marvelous Times is good. I like Casa Bey the best though. The opening skit in The Embassy is pretty cool.. Hell, i'll put all of them here. All in all, this is a good album to get if you want a good, steady, slick album with a old school feel to it. Mos Def has this shit on lock. Definitely give it a listen.

Artist: Nas
Album: "Stillmatic"

Track Listing:

14) "Every Ghetto"

I was gonna try and come up with some cool way to introduce Nas and the "Stillmatic" album but in all honesty it doesn't need it at all. This album is a pure fucking classic. There's no doubt about it. Nas is hardcore. This album is insane. This album came out in December 2001, so it's not new by any rights. It's such a lyrically sound album. Nas abandoned the "gangsta rap" feel of his last few albums and went back to the "Illmatic" style of him doing real lyrical raps, rapping about life in the ghetto, as well as foreign and domestic policies. It also contained Nas's response to Jay Z's "Takeover" diss. "Ether" was a vicious, raw, crazy ass diss song by Nas. Track #2. People considered Nas the winner of this feud just because of this song. The album contains the always hard "Got Ur Self A Gun" The beat is legendary now, Nas's flow is really cool in that too. But by far my favorite song off the album, as well as my favorite Nas song period is "One Mic" I love that song, it's so great. He kills the flow, the beat is beautiful. The lyrics are serious, the demeanor is serious. Nas is seriously serious. The samples are pretty cool too. The album was given 5 Mics by the Source, which is only given to albums which The Source feels are "classics" If you haven't heard this album before, you've been under a rock. Check it out.

What it Is:
Following the same tradition of their first album, The Protomen serve up Act II of their epic rock opera very loosely based on the MegaMan series of videogames. This one serves as a prequel to their self-titled first album, showing how the world got to be like it did in the first Act.

Doctor Thomas Light, the son of a miner that "worked into his grave" to provide for his family, partners with Doctor Albert Wily to create an army of labor robots to perform dangerous work for humans. However, on the day that the first of the machines are to be activated, Light begins to have second thoughts, concerned with the number of workers who will be displaced by his and Wily's creations (The Good Doctor). Wily convinces Light that they have come too far to back out now, and Light hesitantly flips the switch to activate the machines. As the machines come to life, Light leaves his and Wily's workshop, plagued by his doubts towards both the future of the city and his partner's intentions, and heads to the home of Emily Stanton, his lover, to meet with her; however, Wily arrives there first, along with one of the robots. After Emily refuses Wily's offer to come away with him (Father Of Death), Wily orders the robot to kill her. Light arrives at the scene just in time to see the robot slip out the window, leaving behind the knife it used to murder Light's beloved. At that moment, the police arrive, and they open fire on Light as he escapes out the window, assuming him to have murdered the girl. Meanwhile, Wily holds a press conference, implicating his former partner in Emily's murder and riling up the citizens of the city (The Hounds), assuring them that the "dangerous murderer" will not go unpunished. Light is eventually apprehended several days later at the scene of Emily's funeral and is put on trial (The State Vs. Thomas Light). He barely escapes the death penalty, but is a pariah afterwards, forced to leave the city by train in the face of the bloodthirsty crowd of citizens who believe Wily's lies (Give Us The Rope). With his former partner now ostracized, Wily is free to enact his plans without resistance. As the years pass, the citizens of the city slowly begin to depend more and more on the robots who have become a part of their everyday life, turning the city into a technological marvel (How The World Fell Under Darkness).
Years later, a generation has been born, one which lives a life of leisure, never knowing the world their parents had lived in before Wily's robots; still, there are rumors of a red-eyed demon which patrols the dark streets of the city, one which will make you disappear for good if you are overheard speaking against Wily or his new world. A young man named Joe, tired with what the city has become, attempts to escape (Breaking Out) and is hunted down by the demon, in actuality the robot which killed Emily years earlier. In the outskirts of the city, Joe realizes that he is being followed (Keep Quiet); he engages the machine in a fight and, after managing to shoot the robot with its own weapon, holds it off long enough for an aged, grey-haired Doctor Light to appear and kill it. After introducing himself to the youth, Light removes the robot's green helmet, giving it to Joe to wear. As they talk, Light and Joe begin to make plans to take down Wily and free the city from his reign (Light Up The Night): Joe will break into and scale Wily's tower in order to destroy his main transmitter, allowing Light to slip into the city and kill Wily while his 'eyes' are down. The pair make their move, and Joe manages to execute the first part of his plan perfectly, crashing through the doors of Wily's compound with his motorcycle and setting the bomb that he will detonate to destroy the transmitter at the top of the tower (The Fall). However, the bomb detonates prematurely, killing Joe in the blast; Light watches helplessly as Joe's body is blown off the tower, falling to the street below. Light realizes too late that there is a second transmitter, Wily having anticipated an eventual attack, and that he has played right into his former partner's hands; declaring that the city is under attack by 'insurgent forces', Wily releases an army of robots of the type that killed Emily and declares the city under martial law. Joe and Light's attack was the last step he needed to take over the city completely.
Light, despondent, at first intends to surrender himself to the oncoming army (Here Comes The Arm). He finally reads Emily's last letter to him, which she wrote the night she died and until now he had been unable to bring himself to read. Reading his beloved's words, Light finds himself inspired to hold off his impending suicide attempt. He calls on Joe, telling him that when he sees Emily to tell her to wait for him, because he "still has work to do". Removing the helmet from the dead youth's head, Light slips away as the robot army approaches.

Review:
Act II improves on Act I in every possible way. Songs feel more like musical songs, and flow together much better. The overall sound is much more polished as well.
The style of Act II is quite different from Act I, as it's set in a different time period. However, it is not unpleasant. I highly enjoy this type of music, so no complaints from me.
I really cannot praise this band enough. Buy their albums, now. They manage to make a dark, compelling story using music and liner notes, and it works.

Highly, highly recommended. If you really must only listen to certain songs, "The Hounds", "Light Up The Night", "Give Us The Rope", and "Father of Death" are highlights.

I'm not gonna sit here and act like i'm an expert on Tech N9ne or any of the Strange Music labelmates. To be honest, a fellow WrestleZoner turned me onto him a few months ago. [Wassup Ty?] This is his latest album, "K.O.D" It's badass. There are no other words to describe it. This album is dark, the beats are fucking great, the flow of course is untouchable. Tech is on point with K.O.D. Like several of his other albums, K.O.D. is broken up into sections: "Anger", "Madness" and "The Hole" The whole album is good, there are some that do not shine as bright as others but that's usual. As per usual it's got the slew of guests from the Strange Music label. I just can't get over the album, man.. It's so solid. Tech N9ne is lyrically insane. He has that style that nobody else does. It's unique but simple in the same way. I definitely.. DEFINITELY say get this album. Favorite songs? That's hard. Gonna have to say "Demons" and "Show me a God" of course. "Hunterish" is fucking epic as well. Jesus.. this is hard. Get the album. Buy it, download it, whatever. You have to get this shit if you appreciate rap.

So AHFI has a new album coming out soon, and their new video is making the rounds on the music networks. I just saw the video for Medicate actually...

I like the sound they have. I don't know why, it's just always "clicked" with me. Do they have a new singer? He looks very different, and his voice sounds different than on previous records. Maybe he just changed his image to help them further their success?

Still Davey Havok up front for one of my favourite bands. The sound change is a maturing of their new genre they represent. I was not a fan of December Underground, because of the change in their style, but they did open up well. When I started listening to them, they were a small skate punk band, now they are hugely successful, so I guess that is good in their books. But so far, the new album sounds good, relating back to their maturity of a band in the genre.

Hey a music thread, guess it pays to roam around. Nice picks though much of what you suggested i dont listen to but hey dont let me stop you.

My turn to suggest something. Here goes

6a00d10a785ca08bfa0110160a5b67860b-500pi

Hopefully that work. This is Our Lady Peaces 7th and more recent release. This is by far from anything heavy. Its just well put together music.perfectly layered. nice smooth sound that transitions well throughout the entire album.the music blends well with almost every song. Most are catchy with deep heartfelt meaningful lyrics. If your like me and will listen to anything that sounds good in your ears and simply just want to expand your music horizon, then i suggest this little gem of music. If you dont like it i suggest looking into their earlier work since it tends to me more raw. and if you dont like that then this bands not for you

1. "All You Did Was Save My Life"3:49
2. "Dreamland" 3:36
3. "Monkey Brains" 4:31
4. "The End is Where We Begin"3:23
5. "Escape Artist"4:02
6. "Refuge" 4:16
7. "Never Get Over You" 3:57
8. "White Flags" 3:18
9. "Signs Of Life" 3:14
10. "Paper Moon" 3:57

pick up the delux edition for and bonus 2 songs

11. "Time Bomb 3:21
12. "The Right Stuff" 3:24

And if your one of those downloaders i recommend all but the 5 best.
Dreamland,Monkey Brains,Escape artist,Signs of life,Paper Moon

It might take a few listens to get into it.but dont let that discourage you.great album by talented musicians. What more do you want? Enjoy

Artist: Ra
Album: "From One"

Greetings travelers. My girlfriend introduced me to this band. Many of you may not have heard of it. The band's name is Ra. Named after the Egyptian sun god. This particular album came out in 2002. So it's a older album. The band is a alternative metal band according to Wikipedia. It also says 'Their music was described as "exotic not familiar, heavy not funky, direct not sophisticated, sensual not soulful, unrelenting not cathartic." I love this album. I love the variety it has in it. It doesn't sound like every other rock band which is a unfortunate trend going on nowadays. They put a little bit of the middle eastern flair in it with certain instruments and such. Sahaj Ticotin, the lead singer has a wonderful voice and it fits well with the bands sound. He can sing elegant, simplistic slow songs, or head banging 'get pumped up' type songs. He's quite versatile. That's another thing, the band is versatile. There's a nice selection of tracks on here they range from different sounding songs with a bit of middle eastern, egyptian or whatever type flair. There's heavier songs that dabble in that "Alt. Metal" genre. There's slower, more melodic songs that focus on the lyrics, and the singer's voice, and the beautiful acoustic guitar. I really.. REALLY love this album. It's a bit hard to find, download wise. It took me a while to get ahold of it. But it's damn good.. I would definitely get it. This may be one of my favorite album's i've reviewed so far. It's just incredible. Check this band out!
