But I still can't help but feel like everything Romney says is pandering lies.
When people say raise taxes, that's what they're talking about most of the time: letting the cuts expire.
Also keep in mind we're not talking about doubling them. WE're talking about going from like (numbers made up) 33% to 38%. That's hardly going through the roof as they're going up 5% over what you're paying beforehand.
Also, when you're making millions a year, I really don't want to hear you complain about paying a few thousand extra a year. If you're putting seven figures in the bank, I don't want to hear you complain when you have people like my family who are lucky to make 10% of that and pay roughly the same or even more of a percentage in taxes.
Oh I completely agree. I'm from a family that has always struggled to get by, but we always did because my dad works 60 hours a week to pay off the mortgage and put food on the table. Since I moved out in 08, I know first-hand how hard it is to make a living for yourself. But I also don't hate rich people for being rich. Unless you know...they're assholes about it, or got there by being cheats and swindlers.
And I don't think it's a huge deal for %'s to go up by small numbers. I read a really good AMA on Reddit yesterday about a multi-millionaire who actually wants to pay more taxes to help out the economy. It's the principle behind the thing that kind of bothers me. In application it's not been bad, but when you look at the message it sends - that the government can tax you different because of your living situation - it worries me.
I would like to thank Obama, that I don't have to worry about health insurance for the next 3(ish) years.
Interesting that Romney is talking about taking the issues to the state level and fitting plans that work on an individual basis. I love that plan, IF IT WERE AN ACTUAL PLAN. It's a nice ideal, but I still haven't heard him tell me HOW he's going to go about that.

We've got 20 minutes left here and Romney is in trouble. There isn't a clear winner here and that's bad for Mitt. Just standing even with Obama and drawing a tie is fine for Obama.
Also, zero mention of 47% so far.
I don't think Romney has looked like he's in trouble yet, he's been pretty lack luster, but so has Obama. I think Romney has actually looked slightly stronger as he has lobbed attacks at Obama that Obama hasn't really defended himself again. Now that could be calculated by Obama as it's possible people will see him as secure in his decisions, but we'll see.
This debate has been pretty futile though: the moderator did nothing to help direct the conversation and it's been pretty much grandstanding and some very light debate.
