2012 Debater's League: Smack Talk and General Discussion Thread

First off, I'm not basing the tournament around your schedule. Secondly, I announced the debates' time frames weeks ago, so this should be no surprise.

Lastly, that's why I'm giving all first-round debates a four day deadline. It gives you all one day for every required post, plus a day (if you need that long to complete everything.)

Weeell, if Rattlesnake can't cut the mustard and is already making excuses, I can gladly step in. I really wanted to get in this thing, you announced it was going to happening right about the time I started on here and I was really pumped to give it a go. Unfortunately I got really tied up in work, then I got "downsized" so I have a lot of free time now, and for the foreseeable future. I think I could be a very worthy adversary for anyone. Find the weakest link and let me take their spot if they want an out. After all the bruises I took through the WZ Elections I feel like I have something to prove, maybe more than a lot of others. I'd like to get that opportunity here with this debate tournament if at all possible. I know I missed the deadline to sign up, but a lot of that was out of my hands. If it's "too bad so sad" I understand, rules are rules, but I'd be a fool not to try and slide in a spot as much as I'd like to compete.

I'm not begging for scraps, just a spot that I didn't get the chance to fill for reasons beyond me, if there is any way for it to happen. I thought this was going to be a lot of fun and really wanted to participate but outside factors kind of put the screws to me on that. Now that I don't have those outside factors I'm just trying to make up for some lost time that's all. Nonetheless, I still got a "LOL" out of you right?

If I could be serious for a moment ala Lance Storm, I've seen enough of these debate tournaments to know that there's always someone if not a few people who no show, outright quit giving someone an easy win, or who make up excuses as to why they can't participate once it's showtime. I'm just putting myself out there saying "Hey, I'm totally revved up to take any spot should one become available". I'm not asking anyone to change the rules for me or anything like that, I'm just saying, I didn't get to register so I missed out, but if I can find an "In" I'd like to take it. No big deal, I just wanted to make sure I got myself out there for consideration in the event that an "In" becomes available.

Most of you should know what some of my expectations are so I do expect for them to be met. As far as punctuality, I think you guys are worrying too much. If you respond within the time you're awake then what's the problem? The other person is more than likely going to be asleep. Now, if you decide to take your time and take a day or longer to respond then that becomes a problem. By doing that you interrupt the flow of the debate and as a result then you shouldn't be awarded the point.

Remember, for me at least, how informative you are and how much in detail you go into things the better you're probably going to do. Like I said earlier, if you're going to bring in something from the past such as a match then tell me how it is relevant to your point. If you bring in a lot of information, if the info is relevant and if you use it in a manner that makes your point better than you might have a better chance at winning the persuasion point.

Look at that, you could win 3 points easily depending on your debating skills. If you know you're going to be late, then don't go after that point. Try going after everything else. Clarity is super easy to win so it's better to have 4 points that none.

You seem to know alot about skull-fucking, but that seems to be the extent of your talent. So, you already lose the intimidation factor. After that what do you really have left? You might dazzle others into cowering in the corner with your verbal rape forts that you call posts, but you dont worry me.


My advice- do some homework. Watch whatever you can get your hands on. Chances are, I have already seen it. Read as many biographies, articles and history as you can because I have already read them. If I dont know about it, I will and absorb more of it than you can.

I think I can hold my own with these guys, but I can't say I'd win the tournament. Going against JMT in the final made me feel better about it, but the top guys do not participate (at least not since I've been around). I hope, at some point, we can do something where the best of the best take part.

Gelgarin, IC, and Tasty did in '09 for the whole league. Obviously D. X was there but I think just stopped. FTS, Lariat, and Ricky as well amongst all the others.

It's still a pretty decent line up if you ask me. Mitch and Jose are beasts at debating, Killjoy, HHF and Stormy are good posters while Deanandterry may not be a huge name but is a very solid poster. And a debate isn't ever easy. Always remember that.

Bolded is the key words. While I agree with this, if you've got the big hitters out there plus some smaller guys, it is fun. It probably won't happen more often because they either don't give a shit anymore, or just don't want to argue for a tournament that isn't the WZ Tourney.

However, common sense tells you the twenty or so best guys on this forum aren't taking part. I'd rather lose to someone like Coco or Sam in the first round than go on and win the thing against someone like The fucking Talon.

It makes for a bigger deal, no doubt. IC vs. Gelgarin was amazing. If you've got the time, I suggest you go read both of their debates. Trust me, you'll need time to go through it all.

Oh, and if Talon isn't much of a prime choice I am right here to fill the void if you want a stronger competitor.

For that matter I issue an open challenge to any person in the tournament who feels confident enough. I will take on anyone in an outside debate, you choose the topic, or anything else pertaining to it, and I will win to earn my way into the tournament. I lose, call it a tune up, and I stick my tail between my legs, admit defeat, and concede superiority to whomever decides to take on the challenge.

No dipshit. What got worked out was that punctuality points are not as big a deal as I thought them to be. As Miko told me punctuality points are mosstly split until and unless you fail to respond within the time limit. Making quicker posts does not matter too much. As such the punctuality point is not something to lose sleep over.

To beat anyone in a debate you first need to understand the topic at hand. So far you have not made a great start.
