Zack Ryder's Push - Do you enjoy it?

Pre-Show Stalwart
This may seem like an odd thread to some people, because they consider a "Push" when a talent consitantly beats another person and are made to look strong and pushed up the card.

For my definition of push I am just going to say being pushed up the card, and For Zack Ryder going from Superstars Jobber to a weekly comedy segement on Raw the past few weeks is a pretty significant push.

Obviously at this point it seems like they are going the "comedy jobber " route with his charcter, which isn't a bad thing for everybody. Some just don't have the look/charisma/gimmick to be a main eventer, and there have been multiple talents (i.e. Santino) who have made careers in the WWE as a comedic/enhancement talent. They get consistant T.V. time and because of it, and get fairly over. Being on T.V. is never a bad thing, if you stay on consistantly and do well at the role you are given you it can obviously lead to a larger push ( i.e. Evan Bournes Current push, sure he was a jobber but he stuck with it, did a good job with it and is receiving some sort of push currently, and yes main eventing with cena and pinning edge cleanly is a pretty large push, not to mention the extra T.V. Time he has been getting for the past few weeks in his mini-saga with Ryder)

So the question, Do you enjoy the current "Zack Ryder" comedy-esque low card character, and are you happy to see him receiving a push?"

Personally I think he is doing a mediocre job in the lower card, and could improve his character substainally. I felt like he was the worst part of the "hit on Ryder " segment. He obviously has the potential to be a very funny character and do a much better job (even in the current comedy -- Jobber role he could improve quite a bit). I can SEE myself enjoying him, and I can see him being a very good character, but he currently for some odd reason just isn't clicking.

Unfortenatly after all the time and work he has spent on it in the past, I just don't know if he has it in him to cut it much longer. I could definatly see him getting future endevoured or sent back to FCW to be re-packaged soon if his current characters overall entertainment dosen't improve soon.

Personally,I love Zack Ryder. His gimmick is great, his ring attire is awesome, his theme music the greatest.I think he should definitely be in the midcard and sometime this year go after the us title.I think he's doing a great job where he is,but the radio told me that with some gold on his waist,he would be doing alot better

Personally, I've never seen anything in Ryder. This gimmick he's running with now is just pathetic and that outfit he wears looks like it belongs on Rico (who could acctually pull it off). The only small thing I like about Ryder is that short 2 week storyline he just had with Evan Bourne, which ended with Bourne's new (POSSIBLE) push.

Ryder needs to go to smackdown, he doesn't belong on Raw until he develops a real character.

But, that's just my opinion. I love Sheamus, and I know alot of people hate him.

OOHHHHHH RADIOOOOOOOO

I freaking love Zack Ryder. This guy cracks me up like no one else. He's just so outlandish and ridiculous -- you gotta love it. He totally sells his role and you can tell he has a blast doing it. His attire is hilariously goofy, his theme song is awesome.. even his mannerisms are great. Have you read his twitter? It's hilarious. "My parents wasted their money on my college education... the radio told me everything I know." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I really think WWE struck gold with this gimmick.

I'm happy with what they are doing with him simply because I get to see him more, though I'd like him to be built as more credible. I think what they were doing with him in ECW was perfect: a comedic heel that backed up his talk with solid in-ring skills, but never someone you would consider a major threat. I'd like to see WWE return to that route and give him a solid midcard feud. Maybe against John Morrison? They have somewhat similar gimmicks and I could see Ryder getting jealous of Morrison or something.

I dont think Ryder should get any type of push, people hate him. And its not the hate that a heel would want, the fans just get silent and bored when he's around, maybe even take a piss or go get a beer. He's just boring and gets no crowd reaction. I say either keep him on Superstars, fire him or send him back to FCW (which would suck cause he'd make that show worse too). Or they should give him a break and repackage him and give him a charecter that people will respond too.

Love watching Ryder. Plays his character very well, good on the mic, and gets fan reaction. If you have ever seen the video my new haircut, Ryder plays those guys exactly. If you have ever met people from Long Island that are over the top that is them. Very unique gimmick and the guy can wrestle. At least this guy has strong opinions which is a good sign, rather than being somewhere in the middle like plenty of other guys on the midcard.

You see it's these kinda guys why I hate VKM for getting rid of the Cruiserweight title...This guy could be champion right now..still an accomplishment...

Do i see Ryder as US champion? No...but i would love to see him try..why not? its new and lets admit, his gimmick is kinda catchy...

I have noticed his segments during Raw..i think now he might want answers from Alicia Fox for attacking him..who knows...it could be getting exciting...

I thought Zack Ryder was gold since I first heard this theme song and those horrid tights. WWE needs a Zack Pack. They also need to put his headbands for sale.. They are on the border of having a big thing going but they just aren't pushing this gimmick far enough. He's basically a Jersey Shore guido but he has no Snooki and no boys. How are you going to do this gimmick and not give the man a crew to run with. I wonder what the mean street posse is doing. Pete Gas.. Joey Abs.. we need characters with names like surrounding him. If they could repackage Chris Masters a little he'd work. I mean at the very least have him do the old Rick Rude bit bringing girls out the stands for a kiss but he tells them they are NHE.. Not Hot Enough and call it the Zack Ryder diss cam :p

towards the end of ecw i thought ryder was one of the best things on the show, he has a funny catchphrase a different look with the tights and is actually a very sound wrestler i think the only thing holding him back is his size so i dont mind seeing him get a push for now because i like him im just not sure what i like about him. woo woo woo u know it

i think zack cud be similar to miz given the chance. much more entertaining than half the nuggets who get screen time

I think Ryder's gimmick is horrible.. yeah, maybe he's got talent, but I think this whole PG thing has brought out some horrible gimmicks; Ryder's being one of them. I can see him as being a heel like McIntyre. Of course it won't have the same effect, but I just see him walking down the ramp, glaring at the audience. Silent, but deadly.

Ya, I'd say he's fine right about where he is right now. Capable of a sufficient match in the ring and entertaining enough on the mic. Goofy enogh to stand out and Alicia Fox's ass is pretty nice. Those are all positives.

He may eventually be a part of some serious feuds, but I don't think that'll be the case for the long haul. There's nothing wrong with that though. You have to have a few people like him on every show to lighten the mood and bring something different to the table. He's perfect where he's at.

Personally, I don't see Zack Ryder doing much more than his "Woo woo woos" and wrestling an occasional match... I think there's nothing for him down the road and he will be a "future endeavoured" anytime soon... just another one in the pack, I guess...

Honestly I dont see much in zack ryder. his gimmick doesnt impress me, his catch phrase is annoying, and he sounds like a douche when he's talking (all of this is IMO). I forgot to mention his attire is a little ridculous, im not sure i want to go all out and bash that it but the first time i saw it i was disgusted.

sorry this was a bit of rant, but im sure we all have that wrestler that we cant stand, for me its this guy.

I LOVE ZACH RYDER! And I'm pleasently surprised to see all the support he's getting on this thread. Sure there are some haters but thats okay, I can't stand Triple H.

Zach has a lot of tools and upside. He's a quality worker, actually has a gimmick and catch pharse, and can talk on the mic. He's not "AMAZING" in any of these catagories but I have seen imporvement since his Edge Head days. He was one of the best things going on ECW and had some nice matches with Christian. He even retired Tommy Dreamer but unfortunitally WWE did nothing with that. Besides Regal (Who is a wrestling God) he was the best heel on ECW. He also had a FANTASTIC match with Evan Bourne on Superstars a couple weeks back.

So YES, I'm extremely happy with his current push. I think being a coach on NXT is the best part though. WWE is giving him a chance here. NXT is just as much about getting certain Pros to re-establish themselves as it is about the rookies. For example, Carlito WAS gonna get a push after NXT before he was fired, and NXT is leading into Miz's next big program.

I think as long as Ryder continues to improve and is giving some more TV time to showcase his skills, he could draw some major heat.

WOOOOO WOOOOO WOOOOO!

Best idea on the forum came from this thread. Why don't they give him a guido Crew? It would be hilarious! Imagine also if RAW could get Jersey Shore as the guest hosts and have Ryder hanging out with them and pretending that they are his crew. Up the angle, people will eat it up and he will continue to get tons of heat.

Before I post, I thought I would just say that this is my 200th post, I'm proud I finally made it to that number, and I'm glad to make this post on a thread about a wrestler I enjoy.

Now, onto the thread. I personally feel Zack Ryder is one of the future main eventers in the WWE. He is very solid in the ring, he has a good look, he knows how to work a match and tell a story while doing it. I also think his gimmick can get over very well in WWE. He even has a catchphrase, something that many main eventers have developed when getting over. He oozes charisma and is great on the mic. The only thing that I feel could hold him back is his ring attire. The image you present as a professional wrestler is very important, and Ryder's is horrible: he needs a change in his attire sooner than later.

But other than that, I feel that the Long Island Iced Z makes a very credible future main eventer, but he needs a year or so to develop. The best thing they can do is give him a mic and give him 5-6 minutes and let him sink or swim. But I have faith in him to develop into a future star. The thing that impresses me most about him is that when I watch him, he works his matches very well, with a sense of psycholgy to them, which is needed. Give him time, I feel he could be a very good star.

Woo, Woo, Woo, You Know It!

I love this guy, why isn't he and rtruth feuding over the us title, and have the miz vs john morrison in another feud. It would be real prestigious because the fans would eat it all up and it wouldn't even be for a title. but rtruth vs zac ryder would build both characters. i can see him as a smackdown world champion.

Ryder will most likely fade away like before. He can't be taken seriously until he ditches the gimmick of he has. He need to be allowed to act more aggressive, maybe get a better outfit and better music. Oh and a real finisher something that screams "Holy Sh*t"

Awesome ideas there, Vintage. These would actually do wonders for his character & take his "douchebaggery" to higher levels of annoyance. Like another poster said, the guy already has merchandise...push his gimmick. I wish he would go back to his more douchy "whoo whoo whoo", but I think the fans started emulating it (the EESSSSTTTRRAADDAA effect) so he changed it up. I'd be up for a Mean Street Posse-type entourage for him aka Zack Pack. You can see the signs in the audience already with that. Maybe after a few months of him and his crew getting chumped out by the roster, then he gets an enforcer-type ala Chris Masters. Send your idea to the E pronto.

Pushing anyone whos not a main eventer is favorable to me. I am not interested in seeing comedic wrestlers being pushed a main eventers but pushing a comedic wrestler into a serious role is fine with me. I think Ryder has a neat look and if he is hungry he will take the ball that was given to him and run with it. What I liked about his push is that you don't have Miz who's very egotistical be upset or pissed that he was put with Ryder. It was a small gesture facially to be satisfied with his partner but it means so much in keeping a person strong and not being looked upon as a joke. Kudos to Miz for doing the right thing.

And don't forget that Miz initiated the high-5 after the match. Actually, what I truly missed about the Attitude era was that it seemed that every wrestler, even the low-tier ones, had a storyline at some point. That's something I wish WWE would revive. I think when the wrestlers put a little more effort when they're used in something meaningful; not just to go to the ring especially if they're not going to get enough time to put forth a great match.

i like him and his character and think he could be u.s champion with bit of a push his just not being used well so he doesnt get over with the crowd

Ryder's a good performer. He's solid on the mic and in the ring, but he's going to have to work his way up the ladder like everybody else. He reminds me of Shawn Michaels when Shawn was starting his singles career. He has the charisma, the passion and the determination, but does he have what it takes to climb up that ladder and grab the brass ring? Only time will tell. Right now, I would say he's not going to move up until he gets more exposure, he's done well on NXT lately and being in a main event of Raw (even if it was five seconds) can only boost his profile. Ryder has a bright future if he commits to the cause.

I loved him ever since he was Brett Major! I loved the Major Brothers when they first started off in ECW, like a fun baby-face tag team that you can get behide.

Zach Ryder was one of the reason why I still watch RAW. I loved him during his ECW time, I love the tights and sad that he ditched them. He awesome on his twitter aswell, he sent a video of him Tiger bombing Christian to him, but Christian did reply back saying "Who is This?", which was gold.

But I don't think he should do the Guido thing.. If you follow him on twitter you would know he HATES the Jersey Shore, so since so many people like the show(I am not one of them), he could just mock them and bad mouth them all the time and people would love it since it so current.

I am very glad he has this push, I need start watching Superstars more to catch him on my TV. Most people with a gimmick like that would just give-up most likely, but he did something with the gimmick and now he has a cult following now.

Plus he has a kick-ass theme song :)
