It IS in Zack's favor, because that joke doesn't work with Primo or Curt Hawkins. It's funny because it's Zack, and he's recognizable as a loser you can joke about. Oh, and also because they actually HAVE Zack Ryder t-shirts. Actually, that fact alone is pretty significant, no? You can't buy a David Hart Smith or Alicia Fox t-shirt at a WWE event.

Well the fact is he COULDN'T really do that joke with anybody else because no other superstars regulars do have merch. But being taken as a solely comedy character is never a good thing. Santino held tag team titles and I'm sure you'll observe at that time he basically had to drop the comedy and just wrestle for people to buy it. Like I said, he has a big cult following radiating from the internet which is the only reason he has merchandise, him being used in that segment doesn't imply a push nor anything good for his character if he is just being joked about.
