WZHL Fantasy Hockey 2015-16 Thread

No dice. What about who you wanted before -Simmonds?

On the table are Rask, Lehtonen, Sedin, Simmonds, Smith, Foligno, Callahan & Kopitar. Cant part with anyone else.

The difference this early between Spezza and Sedin for you is negligible. Reason I want him is SOG, which you'll be gaining with Kane addition.

Nearly every other category is even on my end, and all gaining for you.

Spezza & Rask for Kane is fair. Especially because my center depth drops to Getzlaf (bust this year) and Lindberg.

I guess I'm just not seeing the negative for you here. You give from a goaltending position you are already deepest in the league in, while gaining in goals, assists, plus/minus, power play points, game-winning goals and shots on goal.

I'll think Sedin over for a bit, but I stand by what I just said. Spezza & Rask for Kane is fair.

I think the issue is two fold for me here. One, I am a Stars fan & giving up a solid hometown player is a negative for me, hence why I stuck with Lehtonen as far as I could last season & will this season as well.

Second is that Spezza is currently my top forward & without Eriksson and Plekanec I would be screwed in the forward department because a few top players are slow out of the gate this year. I am losing alot early on because of it. I cant wait anymore for them to come around like I know they will due to a lack of real depth I have available to tide me over till then. A depth that you currently have & will still have if you trade Kane. You have double the depth of forwards that I do essentially.

Sedin is a top guy who will jump back to his normal self sooner than I can wait & the same applies to Rask. You get two generally big names and even with Rask hit and miss currently, he will out perform Sergei this season. Your depth can stand the hit of Kane, while me losing Spezza leaves me treading water with a slight jump in a few categories that wont get me any further to that first win of the season.

You get a top forward and an elite goalie in Sedin/Rask can still win games & I dont sacrifice my #1 guy just to float on like I have been. Or you can pick any of the other forwards I mentioned to go with Rask. I just think Sedin is better than the others with Kopitar being second only due to his slower start. Its up to you. 2 for one either way is a good deal.

You are replacing Spezza with Kane, who is the second leading scorer in the league right now.

As to you being a fan of the team/player, I can't speak to that. This is fantasy hockey, not real hockey. Seems silly to refuse to deal or not want specific players based on the team they play on if they can actually help your team (or hurt it), but no problem.

Rask is not an elite goalie, either. Not this year. Not with the Bruins construction. They're a bubble team in the East. Similar to what Bobrovsky was last season.

But let me think this over and see if I can come up with an alternative.

If I have ever agreed with a fantasy strategy this is it. Being a Flames fan, I only have Johnny Gaudreau on my team, as I know most of them are fantasy irrelevant. Also, I just had to dump one of my favourite players, and hometown hero, Justin Williams, today, as I felt that Dale Weise would benefit my team more at this time. Going for faves or hometown heroes will only hinder your team, in my opinion.

On a side note, I have always disliked how long it takes Yahoo to put a player on the IR. This Connor McDavid injury is going to extremely hurt me if he sits on my bench for 9 weeks without an IR placement

Cant remember who it was last year, but I ran into a similar issue. Took about two and a half weeks before I couls select a replacement. Yahoo is kind of shitty that way sometimes.

Sorry for not updating this thread before. Meant to update everyone about the trade deadline. Life got in the way.

We're in the Semi-finals of the playoffs right now:

Bagpipes&BodyChecks v. Lowdown
District 5 HC v. Cutie Mark Crusaders

I Shatt Myself and Habs play one another for the 5th place game

Congratulations Lowdown, nice to see a fourth winner over the four seasons of WZHL. And a really nice competitive battle from Yaz in the finals.

Here's to hoping we have sufficient interest for a season five next year.

Indeed, congrats to Lowdown, whoever you may be.

Had fun with the league in my first season, despite my team choking in the playoffs. Keep me in mind for next year.

Thanks fellas. I guess taking tips from you guys all these years has paid off haha. This is always fun for me, win or lose. And I love doing this every season. I look forward to defending the crown next year. :)

Congrats Lowdown.

Fun season, despite some big injuries for a few of us. At least the playoffs are on the way. Always hate the long gap between seasons, but count me in for next year.
