WWE UK Championship Tournament (Both Days LD)

100% agree. The thing is, the WWE seemed to have a lot more confidence in the CWC. They brought some of the very best talent around and it paid off. The wrestling was exciting and really polished. Basically, you could tell that the talent involved were going to make an impact. When you consider that the WWE could have brought in people like Zack Sabre Jr, Will Ospreay, Magnus, Grado, Jack Jester. ... Hell, they could even have brought in Wade Barrett or put Neville over there.

Don't get me wrong, it's fine for what it is. But the talent pool could have been 10 times better.

I definitely agree that a lot of the guys who lost yesterday were filler, and made up a good deal of my criticism about the lack of the top UK talent that was in the field(though they all did a decent enough job of helping the winners come out looking really good), but now that we're down to the final eight, the filler has been dismissed and remaining guys like Dunne, Andrews, Wolfgang, Seven, Bate, and Conners are all top guys(or on the verge at least) on the scene and should make for a great championship day if they don't burn out.

Is this tournament a showcase or a starting point for a promotion?

From what I have read, it is the latter so it is somewhat sensible to not have the tournament completely stacked as then you have to have some of your best talent beaten early in their exposure.

It also gives a simple but effective early storyline for the new promotion with some regional heel turning up to say that the champion only won the tournament "because I was not in it."

Champion has to prove himself and heel gets to be a massive dick.

I know if I were setting up a promotion I'd want a range of world class, distinctive talent. As it is, a dozen of these guys are basically "When I was three years old I already had a moustache and I killed my dad in a bar fight. I don't do fancy flips." It might be that this was a round when eight of the guys were warm bodies but that didn't stop most of the matches being absolutely tedious, which you'll not convince me is part of a long term plan. I can't help but think what the likes El Ligero, Dave Mastiff, or Zack Gibson would have made of this opportunity if they weren't contractually bound to be in the latest season of Ninja Warrior UK.

The ending with Dunne & Gradwell has me interested in what's happening with all that tonight.

Was Gradwell injured or what?

Bradwell reminds me of that French lad who used to be on NXT, Marcus Louis - i.e. he's bald and I have no interest in him.

That much was twice as good as anything last night. That bodes well.

I'm thinking this is setting up a Trent Seven & Pete Dunne final with Dunne finally getting his comeuppance to end the night.

"A man who's had a very hard life." Apparently all these guys were birthed into a nest of used needles so you're going to have to be more specific.
