WWE RAW LD 12/27/2010 - Crying Over Spilt Diet Soda

I don't see how this would draw, or even work. Please explain.

Former allies fighting against one another. Former foes forced to team up against a new common enemy. It won't be a huge draw but would make for a 'compelling' story'. In my opinion Barrett by himself isn't a huge draw yet, most of his heat is tied to Nexus.

WWE.com's always useful for finding out how they spin it.
CM Punk attacked John Cena and joined The Nexus
Reports on the demise of The Nexus are premature. After decimating the ranks of the band of outlaws, John Cena may have thought he had rid WWE of them for good. Despite the humiliating beatdown he’s administered over the past several weeks, however, a new iteration of the group appears to have emerged.

Prior to his match against CM Punk, WWE’s 2010 Superstar of the Year was confronted by Nexus loyalist David Otunga, who suspiciously offered to bury the hatchet in the new year. He even proclaimed that Nexus was under new management, presumably having ousted Wade Barrett. After being rebuffed by a guarded Cena, Otunga and his Nexus cohorts attacked, leaving a Nexus armband in the ring.

After leaving their rival battered, Nexus exited and CM Punk, who had been trying to rally the Raw roster against Cena all evening, assumed their position. The Straightedge Superstar shrewdly nailed his opponent with a GTS, then slipped the Nexus armband on himself, signaling that perhaps Punk will be the new ringleader of the yellow-and-black brigade.

So he seems to be the new leader, not the one all along.

Errr, no. Gallows and Punk both got a healthy helping of ass whip

It doesn't matter either way. The attack was about making an impact, and they did. However, the reason as it was laid out over time, was so Nexus was impactful BACKING Barrett. Despite being sold as "one" at the beginning, the Brit always felt it was about convincing his friends from NXT that it was about all of them, even though it was always about getting him the title. Otunga figured it out and there was tension. The other guys just took it (makes sense since they finished below Otunga and Barrett on NXT) but now they have found a new leader since Barrett didn't get it done and they didn't like being backed into a corner and threatened by Barrett. They are trusting a new leader and the only crime they have against him is a few shots to make an impact. It makes a lot more sense than people are making it seem. Seriously guys.

When Nexus was beating down Cena did anyone else hear Cole say "and CM Punk is directing orders" and then immediately change it and say Otunga was? Seemed to me like a slip of the tongue.

Clearly Punk is the new leader because of a change in situation, not that he was the leader all along. Makes perfect sense to me.

Isn't Skip Sheffield scheduled to be back from injury soon? And Tarver as well? You don't think that WWE will go with an alliance with John Cena and the old members of Nexus vs. the New Nexus? Wade Barrett feels slighted because he was kicked out of the group, and even though he hates Cena, he hates Otunga more. Might prove to be some compelling television!
