True. The thing is, I believe management has allowed Randy Orton to sit on the back burner for awhile....and they're getting ready to feature him again.
Unfortunately, I believe you're correct, as you are on most of these. Not in the WWE Championship picture, however, but definitely in major feuds.
With it being the worst-kept secret in professional wrestling that Chris Jericho is going back to his band after Night of Champions, it baffled me that they didn't use this opportunity to elevate Bray Wyatt more. Have the steel cage match
there, then have Wyatt obliterate him post-match. Badly enough-at least-that he needs to do a stretcher job. So I figured that Raw was it for Jericho, and nice elevation for Wyatt. He beats Jericho 2 matches out of 3, then worked him over after the match. The feud was far from perfect, in fact, the flaws were many. But seemingly, Wyatt had gotten the upper hand, and it would be he that sent Jericho packing.
Then Randy Orton ran into the trainers room and attacked Jericho stating
"Sorry, Chris, what can I say, it's the season premiere?"
Four years ago, when Orton punted Jericho in the head and sent him packing, I would have loved Jericho to take two months off, return, and challenge Orton for the title. That never materialized, for reasons specific to Jericho going on a long tour with his band.
Two years ago, when a desperate Jericho attacked Orton then night after being pinned in a Fatal Four Way match for the WHC- that also involved Sheamus the champion and Del Rio as well- I would have loved to see a feud between a then-face Orton and a heel Jericho. Then both got suspended-Jericho for kicking the Brazilian flag and Orton for a Wellness Policy violation-and that feud was shot.
Now here we are in 2014, and I simply don't care. Be it Jericho's frequent coming and goings or the fact that Orton has frankly grown boring in his Viper persona, I'm not sure. I can't even say this will be a good match, as Orton's last good matches were in tag matches with Evolution, and in a triple threat with Batista and Bryan at Wrestlemania. Both have shown-in the medial past-that they're capable of having good matches with just about anyone. But Jericho's single's matches'(the cage match was awesome) with Wyatt disappointed, and I felt both of Orton's matches with Reigns did as well.
Whether good or bad, Orton is going to win this. Not only that, he'll once again send Jericho packing from the WWE for now, likely with a kick to the head. It should have been Wyatt's job.
What other reason could there be then creative is going to feature Orton prominently again?
Unless of course, they're starting to lose faith in Bray Wyatt, who's been left off the card altogether.
Well, it could be because they desperately need someone to oppose Brock Lesnar, presuming he's going to be around more than he has been.....which stems from the recent rumor that Brock will appear in more PPVs than previously.
If so, they'll need guys to face him, and Randy Orton has the size, reputation and toughness to fill the bill.
You really believe Orton is a reasonable challenger for Brock? HHH went through the trouble of
overlooking Orton as a challenger for Cena, picking Lesnar instead. Where would the logic be in having faith in Orton to beat Brock, and further, why would HHH give Orton a shot against Lesnar? He was HHH's hand-picked guy to face Cena, so why would he go with a man he saw as
beneath Lesnar as a challenger to Brock?
That, and heel vs. heel matches are incredibly boring.
