WWE Money in the Back 2011: The Aftermath

One word...QUALITY. Thats all this PPV was. A little predictability, Kelly Kelly winning, Henry winning, but I was suprised to see "D Brian" win MITB. And Punk actually walking out with the belt was suprising. I thought Del Rio(or whoever won) would cash in right away to be Vinces Golden Boy. Not a bad choice at all with Brian winning, however I was leaning towards Rhodes to win. Del Rio, well Im not interested in seeing him with the briefcase for any period of time however was probably going to be the safe bet, however I hope he becomes the first person to cash in and not win the belt. As far as the aftermath goes, Punk will be on Raw tomorrow. Atleast he'll "buy" a ticket and be at ringside. I predict McMahon coming out with all new CM Punk gear, hats, tshirts, programs etc and possibly joining the Punk Kiss My Ass Club. Henry wont be No. 1 contender for awhile since Christian is now the WHC. Plus Christian vs Henry at Summerslam? PLEASE NO. Even a triple threat with Orton thrown in it wont make the match any better. Kelly Kelly will face the other Bella twin then Eve turns on her.(but who cares) Oh and just a question someone can answer for me aswell. Can Daniel Brian only cash in on the WHC and Del Rio only cash in for the WWE Championship/new belt if they bring one in?

Awesome ppv glad i watched it... cena vs punk might have bin the best match since undertaker vs hbk!!!!! shit was to wild the hostel cena crowd was wicked to!!!! i dont care to much about daniel bryan just a happy version of chris benoit but tonite i became a fan of his!!!! and glad wwe didnt do something stupid like having him cash it in on christian that would of bin way to predictable!!!!! finally wwe has produced a good ppv its bin a while

This was by far, the best ppv overall in the past... 5 to 6 years. Both MITB matches were exciting, well crafted and gave us a big surprise, and a logical ending (which in the case of del rio, its a good one).

The other matches were from good to very good. WHC was a really good match with an amazing story (absolutely agree with the OP).

The main event was a PPV by itself, totally lived up the hype. From the crown, to cm punk not heeling a bit, to Cena giving it all. My god, i was a Cena hater from the beggining, but this past year and with tonight demostration.... Cena shown that he can live up anything you throw at him. THANKS JOHN FOR SHUTTING MY MOUTH. Punk was on the top of his game. Even the end with johnny ace being hit by cena, and then del rio being kicked the hell out by punk...

Bottom line, THIS IS WRESTLING, thank you vince, thank you wwe, thank you WRESTLER (yes... today you shown the world that you are indeed WRESTLERS).

Drinking at bar about a half mile from allstate, here is my take of the event live. I was about 8 rows back, right where Punk ran at the end.

SD money in the bank: great way to open. I don't think Sin Cara is hurt, but I could be wrong. The spot with Gabriel and the 450 was awesome live. Bryan taking the win went over huge. I don't think anyone was thinking he would take it. Most of the live crowd was betting Sheamus. Also, Sheamus was a face in Chicago, as Chi town cheers the Irish.

Womens match: I spent the whole math in the bathroom and ATM, sorry won't comment.

Henry vs Big Show: a good match between the super heavies. Once again, most of the crowd was surprised that Henry got the win. Show sold the ankle breaker vey well. That is the theme of the night, most everyone sold extremely well.

Raw mitb: we all knew ADR was gonna win, but the match itself was awesome. Crowd was very anti Rey, very pro Bourne and Miz. Miz selling the injury was very very done. Everyone in the good seats was quiet and we thought he was really hurt. Even his limp back was played well. ADR pulling Rey's mask off was a great shocker and the crowd ate it up. Granted, the smarks have the WCW days to go on, but man, him tossing it into the crowd was sweet. ADR played it as his destiny spot very well.

World Heavyweight Championship: Orton over huge, Christian had a mixed reaction. The chair spot at the beginning as very entertaining. The match itself was equal to the last few ppvs. Most People thought it would go longer. I loved the ending. A lot of people thought Bryan would come out, but as the other posters posted out, it's better for the face to win legit.

Punk v Cena: Holy shit, this is gonna be etched in my mind forever. The crowd was so hot. I was waiting for streamers to come out. Cena took to the razzing very well and Punk looked lime on the verge of tears the entire pre match. Epic match, and the crowd played it so well and Only enhanced the expierence... Well dOne wwe, u played to the 10%... which was like 70% of that crowd.

I was at Night of Champions last year, and the crowd tonight was 1000x more alive

yeah the SD winner can only cash it in on the WHC and the Raw MITB winner can only cash it in on the WWE chamionship. It mentions it on the wwe site

"Amid broken bodies and powerbombs, Daniel Bryan captured the briefcase to win SmackDown's Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Bryan can now cash in the briefcase for a World Heavyweight Title opportunity for up to one year."

"Prevailing in Raw's Money in the Bank Ladder Match Sunday, Alberto Del Rio now has one year to cash in the briefcase for a WWE Championship opportunity. Unfortunately, that may be a problem at this time."

Tonight's pay per view was great for all the reasons everyone has stated here. I just wanted to point out something I found very rewarding from this show. No matter how you feel about John Cena, the guy did a very solid thing tonight. The majority of us can't stand Cena and his character but, for me, tonight showed that John Cena can do some solid work for other people. I gained a lot of respect for the story he's helped create with Punk and for allowing it to take this course. Now I'm hoping that when he gets back from being "fired" that he'll take a heel turn and go apeshit on WWE. It seems to be the logical course for his character now and one course I hope WWE also allows to happen.

For a lifelong fan who's faith and interest has been on a bit of a decline lately I have to thank everyone who made the Punk/Cena storyline happen. Fucking brilliant!!! This was the way it had to go down. Now lets just pray to the gods they carry through some good story. Very well done. Ima happy mark!! lol
MITB winners were great. I thought Del Rio was predictable but I was rooting for him. Danielson was a bit of a shock to me, but a very very very happy shock.
This was the best PPV in a long time and will be hard to top.
THIS IS WHAT WE PAY FOR!!!!!!!!!!

HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!!!!!
fucking hell this is indeed a NEW ERA, NEW TITLE AND NEW INTEREST IN THE WRESTLING WORLD. TOMORROW MY WINDOWS WILL BE SHATTERED AND THE COPS WILL BE CALLED AS TOMORROW NIGHT N RAW, MY ASS WILL BE JUMPING OFF THE WALLS TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. SHIT I MAY TUNE IN AT 8:30 TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE COMMERCIALS OF THE OTHER SHOW TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I HOPE PUNK PULLS A MEDUSA AND DROPS THAT UGLY PIECE OF SHIT TOY BELT IN THE DUMPSTER, BUT DOES 1 BETTER AND LIGHTS THAT SHIT ABLAZE!

Best PPV of the year by my standards... start to finish, this was an excellent show that was incredibly well put together. I've seen a few comparisons to Wrestlemania, but during the very first match I remarked out loud, "it's already surpassed Wrestlemania." I just felt like this was a BIG night... not your run of the mill, once a month PPV. This felt different. This is why I'd love to have Wrestlemania in the smaller venues again. The crowd in Chicago was great for everything (not just Punk) and it was jumping all night and comes across much better on TV from a crowd perspective than Wrestlemania and it's 70,000 seat stadiums, but I digress.

Smackdown! MITB: Awesome MITB match. Everyone had a chance to shine, even Slater and Gabriel. The only guy in there that really didn't do anything to excite me was Wade Barrett and while I understand he's not exactly a ladder match guy, I thought he was underwhelming. But regardless of who did what, great MITB match. Sheamus/Kane both looked convincing as powerhouses and had some really good spots between the two. Sin Cara looked great and took a vicious power bomb through the ladder from Sheamus and in the end, Daniel Bryan wins?!?!? A true shocker!
Rating: 4.5/5 (in comparison to other MITB matches, one of the best)

Divas Championship: It did what it was supposed to do. Kelly and Brie tried their damnedest. It was pretty standard divas fair, but a little better than most.
Rating: 2/5 (in comparison to other Divas matches)

Big Show vs. Mark Henry: Surprisingly not terrible... surprisingly decent, better yet. Big Show moved with purpose, which I haven't seen much of lately. He twice left his feet, which I haven't seen much of lately and sold the post-match beat down quite well, which he rarely ever does convincingly (a la Big Show/Del Rio car incident). Mark Henry wins and looks surprisingly dominant. Good showing for the big boys. Not exactly Kane/Taker Mania 14 but not too bad.
Rating: 2.5/5 (in comparison to other Big Man matches)

Raw MITB: Not nearly as good as Smackdown!'s and Del Rio winning was somewhat predictable. The ending was interesting and the Miz's injury bit was great. Still, with all the MITB matches we've seen, the managed to do a few things in this one which haven't been done before, such as when all 8 guys surrounded the briefcase swatting at it like flies ha ha. It looked a little stupid, but I also appreciate it for being different.
Rating: 3.5/5

Orton/Christian: Booked wonderfully. This was all about Orton losing his cool so it's fitting that he got DQ'd. I don't care one bit about Christian winning the title not legitimately. Christian just won the World Title by outsmarting Randy Orton! The match itself could've been a little longer, but was very good regardless and it'll be one I remember. I was expecting Daniel Bryan to come in post match to cash in after Orton laid Christian out, but it's not exactly Daniel Bryan's M.O. and as much as everyone believes Vince hates Christian, he's now a two time champion which is more than most people can say. I don't think Christian will be given a good run. I think this is just a case of nothing else left in the main event, so Christian/Orton is extended through Summerslam, but still a very good match.
Rating:4/5

Cena/Punk: This just felt epic. The match itself, had it taken place anywhere else, even without that wild crowd, still would've been at bare minimum a 4/5. Add everything else to it, the drama they built, the suspense, the crowd, the ending. This is a classic. Watching it, even my dad who is just a casual fan (who only watches the PPVs and never tunes into Raw/Smackdown!) said that this is the best match he's seen in a long time. I agree. I feel bad for anyone who mentions botches on a night like this (there were a few minor hiccups in Punk/Cena as well as both MITB's and the Divas match), but it had a very real feel. If it's a real fight, not everything hits picture perfect. Sometimes it just hits. I also LOVED how the announcers were putting over the WWE title and were referring to WWE as a "sport" again and not just "entertainment." It really is the reason I love "wrestling" for moments like this. CM Punk wins the Gold which is amazing. The wrestling was great and even Super Cena was better tonight than he arguably ever is. I'm glad they went out and gave fans something to remember. Del Rio coming to cash in only to get kicked by Punk was great. And Punk leaves.
Rating: 5/5

All in all, amazing show. Wrestlemania shouldn't have even been mentioned in the same sentence as this. Best show of the year if we're talking PPV's. It's very rare that I enjoy a show more than the Royal Rumble, but I think I enjoyed MITB more this year. I can only hope WWE keeps up the momentum. They're going to need something HUGE at Summerslam to be able to replicate the quality and excitement of this show.

Rating "A"

John Cena has been in this position before. Like AngryCenaFan said...RVD vs John Cena at One Night Stand for the strap in NYC was the most hostile crowd EVER (even more than tonight, ZERO CENA FANS IN NYC for the RVD match) and he still came in and in my opinion proved a lot of people wrong and he didnt do the same old shit, or at least his S.O.S didnt go how he planned. CM Punk winning was amazing. Great main event that felt like an old school match by getting the fans emotionally involved, so many near pinfalls and submission attempts. I loved this PPV & I didnt like WrestleMania at all. WM next year and every other PPV leading up to it should be like this, if not better.
Cena brought his A game, it wasn't S.O.S Cena tonight, he fucking worked his ass off, he was exhausted and that never happens to him. Punk was amazing they did a great job I found myself actually having a vested interest in not seeing the same ol' supercena crap.

This is probably the best Pay-Per-View I've seen in a very long time. Both MitB matches were very good, especially the first one, and I was satisfied with the winner of each match. The Divas' match and Henry/Show were short and tolerable, so they thankfully didn't drag down the show too much. Christian is World Heavyweight Champion once again (let's hope he gets a good reign this time), and the main-event OH MY GOD was AWESOME! That was wrestling at its finest, no doubt. The build was great, the match was balanced and well-paced, Vince's appearance fit perfectly in, and of course, Punk won the title. The near-cash-in by del Rio was a great tease, and Punk running off through the crowd, hoisting the title over his head was a fantastic way to end the show. Great show, and Raw cannot come fast enough.

One thing I LOVE about the reactions here is the "what's gonna happen tomorrow?" I see a lot of that. I remember during the peak of the nWo, every PPV you'd hear Heenan saying "what's Nitro gonna be like tomorrow?" After the nWo destroyed everything. It's the same thing we're feeling tonight. I love it. I'm so glad WWE is getting you guys happy again. Not because I give a shit about whether you post that you're happy (you'll watch regardless), but because I was really getting sick of the negativity.

Let's ALL try to keep it up and look at the positive side of things.

Also, can people PLEASE stop bitching about Cena not being able to wrestle now? He's fucking awesome. He's been telling great stories in the ring for about 3-4 years now. Get over it, he does more with 5 moves than guys on the indies do with 20,000.

Exactly AngryCenaFan. I respect the hell out of John Cena in & outisde of the buisness. That man bust his ass for Vince & the machine. He lives, breathes & bleeds WWE and deserves all his achieved. Chavo posted last night a rant to John Cena about making tonight something the fans will remember and to not do the S.O.S. that they always see in a lot of his matches. That's what I mean, he attempted to do the 2 shoulder blocks into his back drop/5 Knuckle shuffle momentum routine, & instead it was broken up and he threw in some more offensive/submission moves before the 5KnuckleShuffle. CM Punk winning was amazing but Cena busted his ass of to earn some reapect from fans/critics who hate him & the hot crowd in Chi-Town tonight. Tip of the cap to both men & the WWE.

First things first this was a great PPV and i'd go so far so to say it was better than wrestlemania this year and one of the best we have seen in WWE in the past few years. especially the main event was fuckin amazing, it was edge of the seat stuff..am really glad to see the way it ended couldnt have been booked better imo. CM punk deserved to win in his hometown in front of his home crowd and am really glad and tankful to WWE for not screwing that up.
Now, for those of you idiots who are bashing john cena, he was incredible tonight and all those "you cant wrestle" chants are bullshit he was awesome in the ring now i wouldnt say this often but i really thought he gave more than 100% tonite. Remember it takes two guys to put on one hell of a match and they did just that. So john cena deserves same amount of credit as cm punk for putting up that great match.
Am sick of people constantly thrashing cena, he works his fuckin ass out that man deserves some respect. Its only fair that people recognise that and show some respect.

P.S. Daniel Bryan winning smackdown MITB match was kickasss stuff, i for one never thought he'd win..great so see him win...

Damn, just came back from this live. What a show.

Gotta say, the crowd was the ideal wrestlezone.com crowd.

Smackdown MITB match: HUGE cheers for Cody Rhodes (a Cody chant, even), peaking when he was hitting the Cross Rhodes on errybody. That was sick.
Big cheers for Daniel Bryan, too, upon victory. Huge surprise win, and I think the crowd really dug it.

I bought beer during the ladies match, but I caught the end, and people cheered once Kelly Kelly won, so that's nice.

Mark Henry and Big Show. I was at the peak of my intoxication here, and I think I made the dude in front of me laugh when Henry went off the second rope. "Henry..! NO!! Aw shit man! I hope he's alright!!" Pretty fun big guy match. Hope Show's alright!!!

Then came the Raw MitB match. The Air Bourne got a HUGE pop from the crowd. At least 20 seconds of "holy shit" chants after that. Fucking epic. I marked out hard when Rey Mysterio's mask came off. That was like a Mortal Kombat finisher--ripping out the still-beating heart or something. Crowd was pretty into Alberto winning, I think.

rKO vs Xtian: Crowd was pretty split on this one. Maybe I'm biased, but maybe even more on the side of Christian. That is, until the end. The crowd exPLODED when Orton came back for the second RKO on the table. Too bad it didn't break. Oh well.

CM Punk vs Cena: What can I say? This is probably the most one-sided match since Cena went against RVD at the last ECW PPV. Epic back and forth match, during which the crowd was firmly behind CM Punk. The finish was a little screwy, but the superkick to ADR was received VERY well. CM Punk's escape through the crowd was epic.

Crowd left happy and dazed. Man oh man!

I haven't payed for a wwe ppv since last mania . I watched this one online for the first match and then had to buy it .I couldn't believe they gave it to db and just knew that was a sign of things to come. Short of the big show / henry and the kelly kelly crap this was an amazing show. Favorite moments were seeing the sick demented randy orton back and punk walking out champ. The whole night u just knew this was a night of a lifetime . A white hot old school crowd, a stellar card top to bottom ( minus those two bathroom breaks) and a ending that left u wanting more and begging for time to fly so we can see raw . God can't remember last time I was so excited to see raw . Way to go wwe you woke up this fan.

Also, can people PLEASE stop bitching about Cena not being able to wrestle now? He's fucking awesome. He's been telling great stories in the ring for about 3-4 years now. Get over it, he does more with 5 moves than guys on the indies do with 20,000.

Really? Cena does more with the 5 moves of doom than the indies guys do with 20,000....you put a lot on that one. I'm gonna respectfully disagree and leave it at that.

anyway, i will post positivity. The Cena/Punk match was as good if not better than the HHH/Taker match and THAT'S saying A LOT!
I am really excited to see what happens tomorrow night on Raw. Should be extremely exciting as I understand Punk is supposed to show up on Raw. I'd really rather he didn't though as to add to the storyline that he REALLY left. The only thing that could screw this up is if he does show up and ADR cashes in on him. That would suck. Here's hoping for the best.
I'd love to see Vince come out in disarray. I'd love to see how he handles it...if Punk doesnt' come back then ADR doesn't have anyone to cash in on, what will he do? SO MANY POSSIBILITIES and I'm for the first time in a LONG time, REALLY excited about Raw.

Overall amazing. Every match was entertaining at the very least. Money in the Banks were incredible, and I'm incredibly glad that the Cena/Punk actually delivered and didn't just coast on what would obviously be a hot crowd. They brought something else out there. Awesome.

If someone in here tries to say that this match was awesome only because of Punk, you're wrong. Easy as that. There's no debating it. Punk, no matter how divine or genius or whatever else people are calling him nowadays, couldn't carry someone to that kind of match. Cena, Punk, and the crowd made that match what it was. Never ever sell any of those groups short.

Also, people need to stop saying "My god, they wrote for the 10%, not the 90%." Cena losing just made a lot of the typical Cena fans (what everyone still erroneously believes to be kids and fat chicks) shit themselves. Cena is going to be fired ladies and gentlemen. And the WWE just lost its title. What the fuck. The WWE Universe is dead. Giving Punk the win wasn't some divinely inspired "I'll make the IWC happy. Ahah! That'll make my fans happy!" moment. It was a sound, and incredibly awesome, storyline move.

Now if you want to argue that the 10% are the ones who want a good story, not just the IWC, then okay. I can dig. I'd say that's more like everyone over 18, not just the super cool Punk fans, but whatever. I'll take it.

Amazing match. Amazing PPV. Everything fell into place and it was awesome. Even McMahon going for the Screwjob wasn't over the top or embarrassing. It was believable. Because he did it once, and so he'd do it again.

Which, now that I think about it, just makes this all the more fucking awesome. This was a recycled storyline for the most part. I wasn't around the Screwjob storyline, obviously, but I've gathered the basics. And I know more than the typical fan. To the typical guy at home who missed that stuff, they only know that Bret Hart wanted to leave the WWE with the title, and so McMahon fucked him over for it. He knows it's legit too. But they made us care. Even though this is almost a blatant rip off with a few awesome changes, they made us care.

Sure it was probably different in a lot of ways, like Punk's promo and Punk actually winning, lulz, and KB or Sly or anyone else will probably come in and tell me so. But still. The fact that the skeleton was there, but they managed to turn it into something completely different is commendable. They could have fallen into the same thing. They've done it multiple times before, and they'll probably do it again on Raw tomorrow with some group of mid-carders.

But this PPV is awesome, and this feud is awesome. Don't forget that.

New here yayy...But seriously Reptile..u had me going there..lol. Summerslam,RR,WM are the 3 main PPVS. But MITB is gonna be hard to compete with. Worth the money..Raw's gonna be great tomorrow.
CM Punk is...well i cant curse...so he is REALLY awesome..lol. Its amazing how u can go from establised superstar(which is great anyway) to a MEGA superstar in a matter of 3weeks. I hope he's DEFINENTLY legitmately staying regardless of what happened 2nite!!
Ohh yeah...and i am SO watching the replay..Main event is right now...EPIC!!!

Really? Cena does more with the 5 moves of doom than the indies guys do with 20,000....you put a lot on that one. I'm gonna respectfully disagree and leave it at that.

You know what bugs me about this line of talk is that Cena is a real pro-wrestler. That 5 move talk is just BS. I'll admit most of his matches are more or less phoned in and for those matches the 5 move argument applies well enough, but when he wants to, he can really hang with the best.

The first time I personally remember this was his match with HHH a few years back, where he started pulling moves out of Mr. Perfect's playbook (complete with a perfect-plex that HHH didn't sell) and it made me realize, all the great wrestlers had a "5 move" routine they used.

Back in the day, I could watch Prime Time Wrestling and early MNR and call a Bret Hart match just as easily as some people these days call a John Cena match. It doesn't mean the guy can't wrestle, it just means he's got a well established routine he uses.

There's a lot of s**t dumped on Cena, and I think only half is really applicable. Tonight helps demonstrate the point I'm making. His inevitable heel turn sometime in the future, maybe tomorrow maybe 8 more years from now, will be the final proof, because suddenly everyone and their mother will be talking about him making one of the most memorable moments in pro-wrestling history, just like Bash @ the Beach '96.

Now I am far from a Cena fan. I can't stand his character and I hate seeing him win all the time. But let's be honest, he put on a great show tonight and really PROVED that he is a good wrestler. He may not be as good as Punk, but give the man credit when its earnt!!! Him and Punk put on an awesome match that went for nearly 40mins. Quit the hate and let's give credit where it's due.

All i have to say is this best ppv of the year wait and the best ppv in YEARS and its all thanks to 1 man CM PUNK the main event truly did live up to the hype and the ending was perfect cena did his thing too. I havent been that excited for a ppv in years that i actually bought and recorded to watch for the future. The mitb matches were great especially smackdowns with the unexpected winner. Raw was good as well with Del Rio winning. Divas match a great toilet break for me cuz i didnt really wanna miss the show and grab a snack break. The battle of the giants was good better than i thought wish they did that with henry in 2005/2006 and the christian vs orton match was great even tho i seen it alot they kept it fresh christian outwitting orton and orton goin psychotic excellent booking all around the main event is a classic do i need to say more cuz everyone is already thinkin the same thing. All i have is this to say we had barely any veterans(jerichio, hbk, hhh, taker, edge) and it was still the best ppv now this is how the E shouldve been doing it. Great matches, excellent booking and best ending in a while.

the PPV was great best one in recent years IMO. however i question WWE's choice to make del rio win MITB he is a great wrestler and has great mic skills but he needs to be at summer slam against the champ not holding a breif case threatning to use it on everyone. a better choice i think would to give it to someone who has potential, someone who is almost at the point of being wwe champ not del rio who could easily be in a title match and win and it would be compleatly beliveable i think R-truth, Miz, or Rey would have been better choices but lets see maybe wwe has something up their sleeves. as for daniel bryan winning i hope wwe has huge plans for him cause i dont belive for 1 second he could be WHC unless they plan on re-using the storyline when mr.kennedy won MITB and lost it to edge i think but who knows all i know is im looking forward to the next couple of weeks

I goto a local bar to wacth all the WWE ppv's and let me to tell u....MITB was insane!
We had chants going, people with Cena gear, more with CM Punk gear, and everyone was into it. Only problem being all ages are invited so of course there were a couple little kids with their Cena gear on in the corner.
It may be a little rude....but the best part of the night was a lil' jimmy chant aimed at the kids.

Anyways this ppv was arguably one of the best I have ever seen. I am a Cena hater (for reasons I won't get into now)....but he definitely impressed me tonight with how he wrestled.

In short since I'm tired and need to goto bed......I cannot wait for RAW tomorrow and to see the aftermath, anyone got a time machine to skip the next 16 hours?
