Dark Match Winner
This thread is here to discuss who we believe is the worst wrestler of all-time and why. Please note that I do not count celebs like David Arquette or non-wrestlers like Vince McMahon. Furthermore, this is for male wrestlers only.
My pick is George Gulas. For those of you unaware of just who he is, George Gulas was the son of wrestling promoter Nick Gulas. While it was not an uncommon practice for the promoter to promote his son as the top star, people like the Greg Gagne and Eric Watts had at least a bit of talent. Gulas had none. A day-old giraffe had more coordination. He didn't throw punches. He did chops that hurt a lot and looked like crap. Everyone who wrestled him, from Harley Race to Dutch Mantel, agree that he was the worst wrestler of all-time. I've seen video of his matches. Aside from having no physique whatsoever, he makes Chuck Palumbo look like Chris Benoit.
Two stories I'd like to tell about how incompetent this guy was. First, this loser actually got a World Title match against Harley Race. Race used every trick in the book to carry Gulas to a passable match, but it was for naught. Fans started to riot. Not because of Harley, who was supposed to be the heel. They were mad at Gulas for being so incompetent and Harley had to punch a few fans to keep them from getting their hands on George and Nick.
The second one is a story told by Dutch Mantel. A newspaper headline read "Local Wrestler Arrested For Soliciting". The wrestler in question was, of course, Gulas. This was rather uneventful until one week later. A newspaper headline read "Local Wrestler Arrested Again". Gulas had been arrested for the same offense in the same place by the same cop.
This mort's career finally winded down when dear ol Dad decided that George had headlined enough at his end of the territory. Gulas wanted to send George to Jerry Jarrett for him to book. Jarrett, for some odd reason, wasn't too keen on having a mediocre (and isn't that being diplomatic?) wrestler like George stinking up his territory. The two promoters split. The Gulas' fell by the wayside, while the Jarretts thrived. Geroge Gulas, one of the few wrestlers to kill a territory single-handed.
So, all new wrestlers should watch a few George Gulas matches so they can learn what not to do when they're in that ring.
