With The WWE Championship "Gone"...

...could this mean that the United States Championship could become the "premiere title on Raw"?

During the backstage skit with Vickie Guerrero, Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre last week on Raw, those were Dolph Ziggler's words as he and Vickie were "rehearsing" for when they'd speak to Vince McMahon. Even though they were mocking Vince, Dolph's words popped into my head a little while ago when I was pondering the WWE Championship situation.

If they intend to keep this angle running, which has been phenomenal, then that would leave Raw without a World Title. Remember, Punk has "left" the WWE with the title as his contract expired as of midnight.

Like everyone else, I've no clue exactly where they're ultimately going with this but using the absence of the WWE Championship could be a way of possibly drawing more attention and general prestige to the United States Championship. As I said, if they're going to continue with the Punk leaving angle, that leaves the US strap as the only men's singles championship on the Raw brand.

Another alternative would be to make the World Heavyweight Championship the only World Title in the WWE. It'd give Christian more exposure by being on both Raw and SmackDown! and I have to admit that the idea of there just being a single World Championship in the WWE after all this time does have a certain nostalgic appeal.

Neither of these possibilities might come to pass, but I just thought they'd be fun little bits to talk about.

I think the US title becomes the premiere title on RAW by default. I think that's only If CM Punk really does end up leaving for a extended period of time. I'm not sure that's going to be the case. But for the sake of the thread- i'll assume that is the case.

Who more perfect to try to sell to the fans that the US title is now the #1 title on RAW, then Vickie Guerrero? Getting Ziggler over as a heel, like she usually does. Sorry Dolph- she does your work for you. I think it could last for a while, for sure. But can WWE really go into SummerSlam with the US belt being the premiere belt on RAW? It is supposedly the #2 PPV of the year, right? I dont think WWE will let that happen, honestly.

Something big has gotta happen tonight to set things on course for SummerSlam. I just have a hard time believing that the "WWE title" wont be part of SummerSlam. Maybe it has Punk involved, maybe it doesnt. But if he's not involved- I suspect some kinda tournament to crown a new "WWE champ" will happen at SS.

In the meantime- I will enjoy watching Dolph & Vickie proclaim to be the top dogs on RAW now tho. Even if only for a couple/few weeks.

Maybe Vince will debut a new design since Punk took a prop home and he and WWE as a company don't recognise the title that left out the back door last night?

Then Alberto could come out and say that since he was number one contender, he should be crowned the first champion. Vince will get upset that he didn't get the job done at the ppv to keep the original belt in the company but then Dolph and Vickie interrupt to say that since he's the only one with a major title on Raw, he should be the champ.

Match is made for Summerslam but then somehow Cena manages to find a way back in the company and it's a triple threat for the newly designed WWE title while Dolph either drops the US title to move up to the main events (even though he's far from ready but it hasn't stopped WWE before) or keeps it and remains where he is.

Meanwhile Alberto could become the new WWE champ and feud with Cena over it while still holding the MITB briefcase so he can cash in whenever he loses the title and takes the opportunity to sneak another reign in future.

Cena should be fired at the top of the show and Punk should not appear.

I'm good with a pseudo title being brought in until Punk returns to GTS the interim champ, but Dolph isn't good as a world title contender yet Mark Henry needs to slam somebody thru something tonight or I'm gonna be PISSED!

Your guys are overthinking this situation a little too much.

This is a storyline, and when the storyline ends, the WWE title will be back, as always, as the main title... with a new design maybe, but still the WWE Championship.

I think everyone is overthinking this. My guess is its a good excuse have Vince bring in a new Belt, Vince goes on Raw and says " Haha Punk , heres the WWE title, you can rot with that spinner belt crap" and they have a tournament or something to crown a new wwe champ...

I honestly think they are definately using this as a way to introduce a new design to the belt. They have been wanting to do this for a while anyway. Spiiner belt represents old Cena and is stale. Im eager to see a new design as long as the dont fuck it up.

I think its more likely that Vince will bring out the new belt (the one they have had made for a while now) and announce the WWE title that Punk has is gone (ala Russo v Hogan in WCW near the end) and a new WWE champion will be crowned.

It could go anyway after that. I have a feeling no Cena on RAW tonight either. I read his tweets to Rock saying sorry and that he was "future endeavoured" last night by Vince.

Yeah so I think RAW opens with Vince and a new belt and announces either a series of matches for it, or a match at SS.

I agree with a couple of the above that Del Rios will have some sort of punishment for not stopping Punk as well.

Ziggler is in the bad books with Vince too cause of the joking last week.

My fav idea would be a tourney leading up to SS with the final for the new belt. Punk interferes with that match in some way at SumerSlam claiming to be the real worlds champion (ala Ric Flair and HBK in the past) They can even 'edit' the belt out when he appears like they did with Flairs gold belt in the 90's

There will be a new WWE title. I'll go ahead and GUARAN-DAMN-TEE it. At some point later down the road, CM Punk will come back at there will be a WWE Title unification match. Most likely between CM Punk and John Cena.

Storyline wise this is a great opportunity for Christian's push to be moved to another level, and have him appear on Raw and say that he is now the owneer of the only major title in the WWE. He is now the top guy in both Raw and Smackdown. It kinda keeps the IWC love thing going...

Could the Rock save Cena/wwe? What if he came back around Summerslam or Royal rumble an challenged Punk to come back and fight him and if he win and brings the belt back to WWE then Cena gets rehired and their match is on for WM..


I'm hoping they don't pretend punk and the belt never existed and just go on with a new champ like nothing happened but it wouldn't suprise me that much.
