Will William Regal Be The Next In Line?

CM Steel

A REAL American
William Regal had stated in a interview awhile ago that he would like a run with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship before he retires. And would have liked to win it in his hometown of Blackpool, England. William Regal is in his mid 40's.

Veterans like Kane and now Mark Henry have now had a good lenghty run with the WHC on Smackdown. Should it now be William Regal who gets to have a good run with a WWE world title? And what kind of world champion would William Regal make?

Nope. Kane and Henry serve a purpose for storylines (coincidentally they're both monster heels). I dont see what purpose Regal would serve for current storylines. Also, putting the title on Regal means that others (Punk, Ziggler) would get passed over.

The only way I can see Regal having any kind of a push is with Daniel Bryan. Because they're both mat technicians, I think they can pull off a great match out of the blue. But beyond that, I don't see Regal being relevant until his inevitable HOF induction.

Absolutely not.
I would love it! I would be so happy if Regal got a push and a title run and was shown on Raw or Smackdown a little more, but its just not going to happen.

As much as I long for such a thing to happen.

Should not happen and will not happen, I'm sorry I love William Regal and I always have but that shit aint happening. Just because Mark Henry got his World Championship reign after being a good hard working employee for 15 years does not mean that every superstar who is a good worker is going to recieve a World title reign as a token of appriciation, if that were how things worked then Chris Masters might be champion right now instead of future endeavored.

I have alot of respect for William Regal as a wrestler and a worker, hell he was one of my favorite GM's in the history of the WWE. But the fact is that he is so past his prime and so forgotten at this point that it would be very hard to push him and make him a believable champion, I mean for chrissake the man has tits he's so out of shape. I like Regal and I always have but the most he could get is some strange combo with Mason Ryan to snag the Tag Titles, but that won't happen. I do find him saying that he wants one reign as WHC before he's done and he wants to win it in England, hell I'd like to win the World Heavyweight Championship in Oakland but that probably won't happen because I haven't done what it takes to earn that. Mark Henry got his title reign because not only is he a hard working and dedicated employee but he's a believable champion and he made himself an undeniable force. Even if there was some crazy scheme to make Regal look like he could actually be a contender for the title it would be too much work for them to do, there are already tons of legit guys in the mix for the title and I can't think of anything that would get him a good reaction considering his age and the point he's at in his career.

Regal would make an interesting world champion. It would have made more sense to push him that far back when he had won King Of the Ring and was about to end his stint as an evil GM to return to the ring. We all know how that ended though. While he surely does deserve such a push I do not see it happening when they have guys like Barrett or Sheamus who would benefit from it more because a world title push for them can result in permanent main eventers whereas Regal would be more likely to get the title run then go back to doing nothing like Kane. I'd still want to see it though, much like with Kane it'd be one of the biggest moments of his career.

William Regal is a great wrestler and has taught alot of the younger generation, i`am surprised mack swagger said he is in his mid 40s. i thought he was maybe in his mid 50s. I suppose it would be nice to give him the title before he retires even for one or two weeks. I think Regal would make a good champion heel or face. He might even drop it to Barret or Ryan.

I love William Regal. I just flat out enjoy watching the guy wrestle inside the ring and he's demonstrated legit ability on the mic. Personally, I do think that Regal could be a guy that both WCW and WWE kind of missed the boat with.

That being said, it's extremely unlikely to happen. I won't ever say never when it comes to someone being given a run with the title due to Mark Henry but, in Henry's case, WWE has managed to catch lightning in a bottle. They took a chance on Henry, who has been almost completely irrelevant his entire career, and he's become one of the most interesting and best things going on in wrestling. Could that be duplicated with Regal? I suppose it's possible but, then again, a big reason Henry has gotten over is due to the believability of his character. Henry is a big, strong, intimidating guy and Regal isn't. They've gone down the road with Regal as the smarmy, arrogant Brit his entire career and it just hasn't really paid off. He's had a respectable career, but I don't see Regal as World Champion.

On top of that, Mark Henry is money right now. The WWE has a good thing going with him and they know it. Taking the title off Henry at this point in time, in my view, wouldn't accomplish much of anything. He's doing well right now and WWE should milk it for all that they can. If that means that Regal doesn't get his shot, then so be it.

I can't see this happening. I always enjoyed Regal, especially in his WCW days. but at this stage in his career, it's just too late. Besides that, it just wouldn't be logical. You have guys like Barret, Rhodes, Bryan, and Ziggler who are being pushed and could all be champions within the next year or two. Putting the WWE or World title on Regal would almost be like casting them aside. If this had happened maybe ten years ago, that would be fine. But now, it would take too long to push him and make it believable, plus the fact he may not even have that many years left.

I love Regal, but with that said, I can't see a scenario where they put the WHC on him. I think the last time I saw him wrestle was against Darren Young on NXT.

The most I see WWE doing with Regal aside from grooming him as a commentator, is maybe as a trainer/mentor for Danielson as he gets ready for his Wrestlemania match.

Maybe a cool twist is that at the PPV prior to 'Mania, Regal challenges Danielson for the briefcase as sort of a final test for Danielson, and a last opportunity to wrestle for the title for Regal. I wouldn't want it to be one of them turning on the other, setting up the match. But more of a match created out of mutual respect for one another.

I would love it- he was so awesome as RAW GM, at that time I'm pretty sure he was being considered for a WHC reign (setting up the match for himself and screwing over his opponent basically) but that never came to fruition.

Realistically, it would seem that he's not going to wrestle full time again. As far as I know, he's just been doing commentary for NXT and I'd expect his role to be outside of the ring from here on.

I love William Regal, he was an AWESOME heel, and he's great in the ring and on the mic. Sadly though he is past his prime, and I don't think he'll have a relevant run in any sort. The best I can hope for is putting him in a match in his home town where he gets a MASSIVE pop and then goes over and beats Daniel Bryan with the regal stretch. That would be a mini mark out moment for me.
