This is so off the mark, it's painful. Firstly, I don't know how you can argue that crowd reaction isn't the best way of judging a wrestler. There are a ton of wrestlers in the WWE who can put on a great match but can't buy the kind of support Santino has. Your suggestion that any underdog would have garnered the same reaction is way off base, especially when you mentioned Ted DiBiase. How the crowd reacts to you as an entertainer is the biggest mark of success. Granted, the crowd doesn't pop for Santino because he's challenging for gold, but because he entertains them. Doesn't do it for you? That's fine, the face of the company doesn't do it for roughly half of the fans.
Secondly, and even more absurdly, you suggest that not only is crowd reaction not the best way to judge a character, but also that crowd reactions means nothing. How? This business is based on fan appeal, either positive or negative. If you don't agree with what crowds are popping for, then that's your own prerogative. But I believe the WWE is going to take note of the thousands in attendance over your marked criticism.
For the record, I'm from the "city" of Canada and we have always marked hard for Santino. I find it hard to believe last night would have been any different.

You talk about crowd reaction. How come then people don't get why WWE push John Cena? It is because the crowd REACT to him!
I have noticed something. Whenever Cena is in the ring, talking or wrestling, you get "Let's go Cena!", "Cena Sucks!".
My point is, you talk about crowd reaction, but any crowd reaction is good. You seem to praise Santino because everyone CHEERS him, but not Cena, because everyone boos him.
Also, aren't the IWC a tad hypocritical? Half the time you praise ROH, and bash WWE because it is storyline-based, and yet, when a goofball you like performs in a match, you say it is World Wrestling ENTERTAINMENT! So, what do you want....a mix of storyline, entertainment and wrestling, or pure wrestling.
Personally, I would rather watch another HBK-Taker at 'Mania or a Kurt Angle v Chris Benoit (oh no, I said his name) 30-minute classic any day of the week, than a Santino promo at the moment. And that goes for all the stupid backstage skits they have in WWE as well (barring any part involving either William Regal or Goldust, who generally are funny).
Hell, I would happily watch Steamboat-Savage WM3 match again than most of the skits and useless promos (including a lot of the Rock promos). And that match happened 25 years ago.
The day comedy characters provide the entertainment over interesting, well-told storylines and fantastic, memorable matches, is the day I no longer follow wrestling.
Comedy has it's place, like an insult to your opponent. But it needs to be once in a while.
You people would probably have wanted to see Doink The Clown win a WWE Title too!
