why are wrestling fans such sheep?

Austinfan87

Dark Match Jobber
i used to be a huge wrestling fan...grew up in the 90's with stone cold, undertaker, shawn michaels, bret hart, diesel, razor ramon, sting, ric flair, hogan, macho man, warrior, etc. and while i had my favs..i was always loyal to austin...i was an austin fan from 96 til now...saw his rise up until his bow out match and beyond...and i didnt care who came back or who the wwe was pushing at the time...i stuck with austin. Now ive been watching the way cenas been getting treated since the rock came back...and im disgusted and i realized fans like me dont exist anymore . This guy is getting booed out of every arena because now all of a sudden the rocks back? the rock says yabba dabba bitch and crowds are chanting it....that is one of the worst lines ive ever heard...corniest shit and people are eating it up...you got little kids who are 6 or 7 years old who 2 months ago were screaming for cena now they hear people screaming for the rock so they boo cena and scream for the rock?...these current fans are too young to remember the rock didnt want anything to do with wrestling for 5 years....he didnt wanna be known as the rock...so while cena is in the ring busting his ass at every show..dwayne is too embarrassed to be known as the rock...now his movies arent doing too great so he comes back to wwe and people are so brain washed they run back to this guy like a submissive wife to a abusive husband....where are all of the real wrestling fans..do tey exist anymore?

It's because Rock and Cena are feuding. Some of the fans agree with what Cena is saying, and the others agree with what the Rock is saying, and the rest of them just like the Rock/Cena more. Who gives you the right to call anybody a sheep, simply because they don't like the guy you like?

your answer had nothing to do with my post..go re read it and try again

Actually, my answer had everything to do with your post. You're pissed that younger fans are cheering for The Rock, even though he's been gone for a number of years, while Cena is loyal, and people are booing him.

I'll rephrase my answer because you appear to be too stupid to understand it:

You don't have the right to declare people sheep simply because they like a wrestler you don't, nor do you have a right to decide why complete strangers like certain wrestlers with absolutely no backing or merit.

I'm pretty sure the kids are still cheering Cena, if their t-shirts are any indication; and most of the Attitude Era fans are supporting the Rock. And even if the OP was right, is it so wrong/unusual for a child to be fickle?

Cena has always drawn his share of boos since he became a main eventer for various reasons (white rapper, jean shorts, toy championship belt, winning and Mania almost every year, etc), and when you combine his feud with the Rock, and being in a notoriously smarky city (like Chicago last week), the heat gets even louder.

Whether they'd be considered "sheep" or not, today's wrestling fans have been exposed to a concept unheard of in the history of wrestling: wrestlers and storylines that involve "'tweeners."

In the old days, the intentions of the characters were clear; either they were good guys or bad guys. When a bad guy went face, he(she) did it all the way. He was no longer a bad guy.....he now wrestled by the rules......and there was no confusion for fans; they knew exactly whom to cheer and whom to boo.

Today, the lines are blurred and the so-called "sheep" have to take one guy's side or the other. In the example you mention, do we continue to cheer Cena because he's still acting like an All-American hero? Or do we boo him because he engaged in a sneak attack on one of WWE's all-time greats? Is Cena even a 'tweener? Or is he going bad? Who knows?

These are the kind of characterizations that have added such spice to WWE storylines in recent years. Personally, I want to be confused over who to support and who not. It makes you think about pro wrestling even when the show isn't on. For example, last Summer when heels Chris Jericho and Edge were threatened by Nexus and had to decide whether to join the good guys in fighting Barrett's group, remember? In the past, we never had storylines like that and the "sheep" suddenly found that it wasn't clear whose side to take. This is great, great stuff.

But even as these new plot lines evolve today, the seeds of these storylines were planted in the Attitude Era. For instance, when Rock and Austin (the "good-est" of the good guys) were suddenly in conflict with each other......what were we "sheep" supposed to do? It all started back then.......and we're all enjoying the fruits of this great writing now.

Well, at least most of us are enjoying it.

roach take it easy dude...its a discussion on a forum..you take this stuff way to seriously....im not even a cena fan...i dont follow the current product enough to be a fan..but ive also always thought the rock was over rated and got big strictly off of his "jokes"...if you want to call them that....i just think its funny how people turn on a wrestler at the drop of a dime because other people are doing it...its like follow the leader...everybody is entitled to their own opinion....but thats just the way i see it...and this is the reason these newer wrestlers will never be fully over because you have a guy like the rock who could have easily came back and put cena over instead he completely buries the guy....when the rock leaves again though...watch how many cena fans come back...sheep

see now it was a little different back then...in 99 austin left for 10 months for neck surgery ..and the rock was the main face in the company ....up until austin came back in september...i mean from september til april of 2001 ..when that glass broke he was getting some of the biggest pops of his career .....but you know what..people still cheered for the rock...they didnt boo him out of arenas because austins back...now its like the week before the rock comes cenas the main face...the rock shows up and hes forgotten...wheres the loyalty?....and once again im just making discussion nobody has to get mad and get their panties in a bunch....

well if you don't watch the current product enough to call yourself a fan, how can you have a clue as to how many people like or dislike Cena? The boos have been there for years. There's nothing "sheepish" about people turning on him, it's been that way since he became a main event guy.

To say everyone is entitled to their opinion and then say that those who change their mind is kind of, no extremely, divvy.

I shall call you a sheep for joining the "fans who turn on Cena are bad" bandwagon!

you can call me whatever you'd like dude thats fine....and i may not watch it all of the time but occasionally ill tune in...and when cenas music hits i heard people go nuts alot of times....and yea i know he also has gotten the mixed reactions....but never like this...but im thinking back now ...this has been going on forever...samething happened to the rock when he faced hogan at wrestlemania 18....they turned on the rock in 5 seconds....meanwhile if you said hogans name a year before ina wwe ring people would boo...to me thats just saying yea i like the guy ...but ....not really....i cant relate to it because ive never been that kind of fan

for on thing its because the fans are split between the rock and cena. the rock is huge but cena is to. now we have half the crowd cheering cena and the other half booing cena (as always, not everyone will like you), so to say people are sheep is wrong, and both are getting good reception, though the rock is gonna leave again most likely cena will stay.

I'm pretty sure the kids are still cheering Cena, if their t-shirts are any indication; and most of the Attitude Era fans are supporting the Rock.

I think that pretty much nails it.

The Rock is getting cheers because people remember him from back in the day. They are simply glad he is back and still find him entertaining. That is not being "sheep", that is being loyal to The Rock as a fan, which is just the same as you being loyal to Steve Austin whenever he comes back.

Yes people may have been annoyed that The Rock went to Hollywood, but he has come back and people are grateful and happy for that. Should they also hate Chris Jericho because he keeps leaving the WWE and taking breaks to do other projects? No

People cheer for who they like, boo who they don't and can make their own opinions. Not everyone follows the crowd. Why get all wound up because someone who you do not like is getting cheered?

Chill the fuck out

wrestling isn't like real sports where loyalties run deep... The characters play different roles for a reason because you are supposed to love or hate them depending on what they are doing... it's important to separate the man from the character... you can love Austin or Rock or Cena all you want as a person and respect them for what they do in the business but when they kayfabe turn their backs you should want to see them get their ass kicked. Different wrestlers bust their ass in order to get you on their side... case in point Cena... he's out there in his current storyline showing people how down for the business he is, letting everyone know he's never left and that he takes his role as a role model for kids seriously and I for one was won over by that and am now hoping he kicks the rock's ass in an amazing feud

I wouldn't really call it being a sheep, to be quite honest. I think they simply cheer for the wrestler that is entertaining them the most in the way they want to be entertained. I'd consider it worse to simply cheer for someone because once you started to like them, you felt you couldn't move away from that.

People pay their money to cheer and boo who they please. If this wrestler isn't doing it for them now, why root for them? I mean, if some Cena fan all of a sudden starts to cheer The Rock or anyone he's feuding with, good for that fan. He found something else he likes.

That's what's great about live events. The crowd determines who the good and the bad guy are.

There's no right or wrong way to be a fan. With the exception of people that watch simply to complain like douche bags.

There are few, if any, rights or wrongs when it comes to being a fan. If you're watching a wrestler do his thing and you'd rather boo him than cheer for him, what's wrong with that exactly? Nothing as far as I'm concerned. What's wrong with liking John Cena & The Rock? What's wrong with supporting The Rock over Cena or vice versa? The answer is simple: not a damn thing.

All this stuff about "real wrestling fans" is pure internet smark garbage. If someone likes what John Cena is into, there's nothing wrong with cheering for him or for any other wrestler. Fuck the smarks. I don't base my enjoyment of wrestling based on what anyone else is into, never have and never will.

Over the course of the situation between John Cena & The Rock, surprisingly, I found myself much more on John Cena's side because of a lot of things. When it all boils down to it, The Rock did leave wrestling. Not that he's wrong for doing that at all, but he did leave it while Cena shows time and time again how much he loves it. I was entertained by both of them, but I thought The Rock came across more like a bully than anything else with Cena standing up for himself and stating that he was proud of who he is and what he stood for.

I wont question Cena's heart.. He definitely has been busting his ass for the company with a full time schedule for years now..

Knowing this I still do not like him.. I'm more of an attitude era fan and dont like the whole PG movement which Cena is the poster boy of.. I think most of the older fanbase agrees with what I am saying.. Cena always got his share of boos from the older crowd.. We just dont like this Vanilla Ice wannabe being shoved down our throats as the next coming.. Why do you think The Miz is getting cheers in every arena now? He is the Anti Cena.. People wanted a change. Hence why The Rock is getting huge pops.. people were desperate for a change from the same ol Cenation stuff...

I still respect Cena.. I still say he deserves the belt every time he holds it..Hes busted his ass enough for the company.. Hes just not my cup of tea. I don't think that makes me or anyone else sheep for thinking so..

1st I have to ask you if Stonecold left like Rock for 7 years started using his real name made movies & came back like The Rock would you be on here making post about how ppl are sheep cause they cheer Austin more than Cena? I bet you wouldn't!! You wouldn't give a damn about Cena getting booed out the building if he was up against your favorite Stoncold so why are you on here insulting Rock fans calling ppl sheep? News Flash ppl cheer for there favorite or they cheer for the person they feel should win a certain match no matter if there face or heel. If majority of ppl feel like the heel should win for whatever the reason over a face then guess what the face may get booed in that match thats how it is. You say you been a wrestling fan for years so you should already know this.

How about ppl are booing Cena because they always booed Cena & now one of there favorite wrestlers is back for a min so of course there gonna cheer for him. If it was Stonecold you wouldn't be cheering for Cena no matter how hard he works, so don't come on here dissing Rock fans just because your not a fan of Rock or cause you don't agree w/his career choices. Cena has been getting booed for years this isn't nothing new, ppl even make T-shirts about how they dislike the mans character so don't make it seem like The Rock made ppl turn on Cena they was already booing this man. Just like there is still ppl that cheer for him. The crowd is always either 50/50 or 75/25 for Cena depending on what city there in this is old news. What the hell is a real wrestling fan anyways? Is that some shit you & others made up to insult other people that don't cheer for who you like.
