Where are the basketball fans?

Because a seven footer who doesn't rebound or play defense and floats around the three point line on offense is a good replacement for KG, the best defensive player of the last twelve years.

Sure, the former ALL-STAR Rasheed Wallace doesn't rebound, play defense, or any of that. He only helped Detroit reach the conference finals six years in a row. He is only one of the best three point shooting big men in the lg.

Bottom line is, he can post up, shoot, play D if he has to, and he can rebound. His averages prove that much. If KG goes back down, he will be a ten times better replacement then Big Baby. Celtics will be fine.

True, but not as a replacement for KG. He should be backing up Pierce at small forward. He doesn't play PF anymore.

But his natural position is PF. He will do just fine backing up KG off the bench. Celtics are going to be a very tough out this season. The only thing that will be able to stop them is if two of the members of the Big Three go down.

So? When did a three point shooting big man become a fixture of an NBA contender? Three point shooting big man is an attraction. Please, tell me who the three point shooting big man on the Lakers this year? A big man that shoots threes is a bonus, but when he doesn't do big man things, like get offensive rebounds, then what benefit does his being a big man have? He could do the same shit on the court that he does now at 6'5".

Bottom line is, he used to be able to post up, shoot, but he's streaky and is just as likely to shoot you out of the game as he is shoot you into it, sometimes chooses to play D only if he has to, and he could rebound in the early part of this century, but can no longer jump and gets boxed out on pretty much every opportunity. His averages prove that much. If KG goes back down, he will not even be close to being as good of a replacement replacement as Big Baby. Celtics will be fine.
Fixed that for you. It's not fucking 2001 anymore. Pay attention. By your logic, Kareem is still the best center in the league. Rasheed is past his prime, and a headcase that doesn't try is a bad thing. He's seven feet tall and had more technicals than blocked shots last year.

If Rasheed is happy then he won't shoot as many threes, he'll play in the post, and play solid D. If Sheed gets bored or upset for any reason then he will jack up three pointers all game long.

Also keep in mind that he is now 34 years old. It seems like the older he gets the more he wants to stay away from banging inside and the more he likes to stay on the perimeter.

I really think Celtics fans will be disappointed if they are expecting the same Sheed that helped the Pistons make back to back finals appearances and win a title. He's not that guy anymore. He's a great pickup and will be a nice addition to their bench, but don't expect this guy to play like an all star.

Lol... describes him perfectly.

'Sheed could have ended up being the greatest big man of all time with the talent that man possesses, but instead... he just got by with what he had, instead of working hard and reaching his full potential.

I'm not expecting anywhere near All-Star play from Rasheed Big Sexy, but I think he's the best guy we could have gotten for our bench. Well, him and Marquis Daniels, who I think will actually make more of an impact than Rasheed will. Still though, having Rasheed Wallace as a bench player sounds pretty damn good to me, the guy would be a starter on most NBA teams. Celtics have probably got the best starting five in all of basketball.

Oh...and FTS...THE ROCKETS SUCK! :p

True and unfortunately, true.

But, if T-Mac comes back healthy, and that one in a million chance that Yao can come back this year happens, we could sneak into the playoffs.

I hate having to start every baseketball season with the caveat "if x is healthy."

Best starting 5 comes down to three teams: Celtics, Lakers, Magic

Celtics- Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Kendrick Perkins

Lakers- Derek Fisher, Kobe bryant, Ron Artest, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum

Magic- Jameer Nelson, Vince Carter, Rashard Lewis, Brandon Bass, Dwight Howard

Also if the Spurs started McDyess and Ginobili over Michael Finley and Matt Bonner then they could be considered.

Oooooo....nice word, tag partner.

I have a massive vocabulary that I don't use for some reason. I think it's because I grew up playing sports and didn't want to stand out too much by using big words in front of the guys. Weird, huh? A high school neurosis still haunting me. I am the bulimic girl from third period.

There is not a best starting five with Brandon Bass, so it comes down to the Lakers or Celtics.

What about the Cavs:

LeBron, Shaq, Mo Williams, and two other guys.

Ugh, the Cavs are getting way too much love just as I expected. Add Shaq to a team and by the laws of nature they're immediately hailed the next NBA champions. Pisses me off. Shaq will help, but even with Shaq the Cavs still aren't better than the Celtics, or even the Magic.

They were better than the Celtics without Shaq. What is it that makes them worse now?

The Celtics are the second best team in the East, behind the Cavs. The Magic got worse by adding Vince Carter.

I'll be backing the Spurs this season. Not on purpose. My favorite player is Richard Jefferson, and drafting Blair was a pretty smart move. Duncan and Ginbobli are 2 other guys I've always been a fan of.

OK, then you have proven that the Lakers have the best starting five in the NBA.

And Bass played plenty of minutes last year. Dampier may have started, but Bass was that team's big man.

I hate the Spurs with a passion.

I don't support any one team. I usually only follow players. But, since I'll be cheering for Ginobli, Duncan, and Jefferson to all have big games, I might as well cheer for the Spurs to win.

It's better than cheering the 76ers or Knicks...

Dampier played 23 mpg compared to Bass's 20 mpg. And Perkins played nearly 30 mpg. Brandon Bass > Kendrick Perkins

OK, but that still doesn't prove that Bass is part of the best starting five in the NBA. Plus, Perkins was playing most of his minutes vs. the other team's started, and Bass was playing vs. the other team's back up quite a bit. It's a little easier to score against the second team.

Furthermore, Perkins scores on put backs because he is the fifth option on his team. PPG is not the only stat that determines ability. In fact, it is over rated. Go look at their PER on ESPN.com.

Perkins is not nearly that bad JMT. He's a good defensive player, and considering all the talent around him, all he needs to do is not turn the ball over and we're good.

And no FTS, I hardly think winning 4 more games than a Celtics team that was as injury plagued as our team was last year is a big vote of confidence for the Cavs. I'd take the Celtics starting five over the Cavs any day.

Kendrick Perkins- 13.29 PER

Brandon Bass- 16.49 PER

But I hate John Hollinger so that stat doesn't mean much to me.
