What's next for: Mark Henry?

Occasional Pre-Show
Mark Henry back in 05' to 06' was a monster who fueded with the likes of Batista, Undertaker and Kurt Angle. He was built o be an near enough unbeatable monster. Then in 08' he was a heel giant in ECW who dominated the brand. Now... he is a face and is useless.

I am a fan of Mark Henry and when a heel he can be an intimadating monster.

What's next for him?

Let him go on an undeafeted streak and finally break into the main event picture.

Or have him fued for the US title.

Or just release him...

What do you guys think? What is next for Mark Henry?

I'm perfectly happy with where he is right now. I don't know where the hell that is exactly, but it isn't on my TV on a regular basis so I'm content. I'm okay with him making the occasional appearance on Raw to either squash some cocky jobber or to give a credible win to an up and coming heel, but I really don't want to see him receive any kind of sustained push. He's been working for over a decade now and his improvement has been minimal at best. He's a company man and he's given many a year to the WWE, so I wouldn't be so heartless as to say release him. However, I hope that after his current contract runs out, he retires.

Since he has already made it known that he plans to retire from active wrestling at the end of his current contract, which expires in about a year, the best anyone should expect to see is, maybe, a short run in the mid-card with a little extra TV time as sort of a "thank you" for all the years of service. It wouldn't make much sense giving him anything of a title run except for perhaps a possible tag-title run, but that would only likely happen if WWE ever decides to rebuild the division, in which case he would serve a very good role in its rebuild by helping "get over" newer teams.

Probably retire, as mentioned his improvment over the years has been minimal. His biggest impact recent was probably beating Randy Orton when he jumped to RAW and that's it (actually I didn't mind a short term Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton feud at the time).

But yeah Mark Henry is definatley close to retirment. He's done all what he can in his pro-wrestling (oops did I say a bad work) career and, from what I heard, was very smart and careful of his finances so he won't be another sad story.

Seriously? A Mark Henry topic?

Mark Henry has never been relevant. Well, actually, I'm wrong. When he was in that storyline with Mae Young.. that was some compelling tv!

Yeah, sure he scraped the main event scene with feuds against the Undertaker and Batista, but they were never good fueds.

As far as in-ring talent... the dude is useless and not fun to watch.

I'm looking forward to him being completely taken off tv.

I've always like Mark Henry but I think now is the time for him to go.

I think he'll be on the next Future Endeavored list.

I hate to say it, but it seems to me that he's best off just retiring at this point.
Similar to guys like Steven Richards and Tommy Dreamer, you can't do anything with him anymore, it's too late. People know who he is, have seen him lose consistently and amount to nothing, so it'd be hard for anyone to take the guy seriously anymore. The only thing I can think of is if he is entirely revamped. New name, new look, new personality, new gimmicks, but the WWE has done that with Viscera and it didn't work so well either (you guys remember the grotesque Big Daddy V?). Come to think of it, bring the guy back and team them up like they did briefly at the end of 2007. They'd be a monster tag team.

I don't think so, but maybe you are right. From what i have read on wrestlezone.com, he is about to retire so to release him would be pointless. But hey its pro-wrestling (yeah thats right WWE i said wrestling) so...... I think he could be good as a commentator or a manager

I think the Henry heel turn is proof that creative know what they are doing and can do it with anyone if given enough freedom and time. Unfortunately though, he just doesn't seem up for another go around. He seems like a great company man though and would most probably excel training bulkier or more awkward types down at FCW, so they don't all turn out the same.

F.E. list would be an ideal place for him. The man really hasn't had anything worthy since maybe the sexual chocolate stuff in the 90's or NOD with Rock.
His run with Atlas in ECW was ok but the match with Taker was the shitz....might be time for him to retire and for the W_E to just clean up the dead wood on the roster.

They tried pushing him in the main event picture. Didn't work. Wasn't meant to be.

As long as he can still move he'll always have a job in the WWE as a jobber-to-the-stars. Nothing more, nothing less. They need guys like him. Guys that look different. Too many chiseled greek statues walking around.

A while ago news spread that he's planning on retiring sooner rather than later. Good for him. That's really all there is to say about him.

He should become a part of the janitor crew for making the ring and arena stink every time he stepped in it.

If he has a farewell speech, he should apologize to everyone he's had a match with for making them feel dirty.

He is a useless piece of shit. If you're going to use someone to put other people over, at least let them be easier on the eyes. He's on television for fuck's sake.

In other words: fire him.

I'm sure your comment will be taken down, but this is uncalled for. Henry is a humble and loyal worker, which is why he's probably still there. I agree he doesn't need to be there anymore but not because he sucks, but because there's nothing to do with him. Ease up.

He needs to be released and i think he will be, you never see him on Raw Superstars or SD or any Dark matches, this rcent tour i think he only had like 2 fights, his time is up and what i would like to see is him going back to become the Worlds Strongest Man once again because right now he is like the 2nd or 3rd strongest i forget. Let him go back to that and maybe if he can look built once again (cause right now he just looks like a bloated rock, compared to his past) then if he wants to come back then let him come back. Still tho i think he is done and id say his chances of being released are extremely high

His time in WWE is slowly coming to an end. I think he was originally going to leave a while back but due to family issues he stayed to raise money. Henry's not gonna get a title anytime soon or have anything to do with the main event picture. I think hes great, however for house shows, and special apparances. I remember he missed RAW a while back due to the fact he was doing something for Wrestlemania Axcess. I see him leaving this year or early next to be honest, with something interesting but not too important to end his legacy in the company. Maybe they should have him work with Regal, whos also been rumored to retire very soon.

Mark Henry imo deserves one final push before he retires and that's by winning the US Title. He has more ability than Khali and he does have fun out there. He should have one final big feud and story. I was little disappointed that his brief feud with Sheamus didn't kick off. That would've been a great US Title feud.

Mark Henry should only put the young guys over, that's all he's good for. The man sucks in the ring, he's old, nobody wants to watch him. Why should he go for the World Champion? Like I said, he's old, fat, untalented and nobody cares about him. Even if he was a monster heel, nobody would care because he's boring.

What's next for him?

Nothing big, that's what I want.

Let him go on an undeafeted streak and finally break into the main event picture.

Oh God no.

Or have him fued for the US title.

Sin Cara and Daniel Bryan deserve it much more.

Or just release him...

Retire him, not release him.

What do you guys think? What is next for Mark Henry?

Like I said, retire him, if Edge retired, Mark Henry should.

Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't given him the "future endeavor" treatment yet. Henry's been a pretty nice asset to WWE, whether they've used him on TV or not. He's done a lot of tours to help promote WWE in recent years. But, he's pretty much been entrenched in the B- or C-tier (read: NXT coach) status.

Now that Superstars is off TV, he doesn't have much of an outlet unless for jobber/comedy jobber roles or as filler in Royal Rumble matches. I don't see them coming up with anything fresh to put him back in any major title angle, heel or face. Unless he aspires to work backstage or as a trainer, he's probably just going to hang around until management feels he's no longer needed, or just quietly retire. Either way, he's been a good worker for a long time for WWF/E.

His current position is probably most comfortable for him atm, he said he was planning on retiring whe the contracts gone, so staying face and keeping everything on his own terms is good for him.

However...almost every big superstar except Zeke and Mason Ryan and a few others are faces, and the heel ones just dont seem realistic...

i agree with big daddy, personally i think w_e should get rid of some dead wood. henry, r truth, masters... superstars is shit, only the underated stars are on it. but truth and henry could become a tag team, with truths heel turn and henry could easily turn heel again

Well, now we know the answer to this thread's question as a result of the draft last night. What's next for the World's Strongest Jobber? Mark Henry will be jobbing to the stars over on friday night Smackdown and continuing to be a THREAT TO WIN in battle royals, only now on the blue brand rather than the red brand due to him being drafted to Smackdown. I think he will be in random filler feuds and maybe a few matches for the Intercontinental Championship that he would lose in.

Whoever keeps saying he will be released has about 1% chance of being right. Henry will wrestle until he decides to take some backstage or training job. He's friends with the McMahons and almost all the major names, so him being "on the Future Endeavored list" as you all so smugly put it is very unlikely.

He seems so much happier being a good guy than a "tough" guy. I guess some people are just not cut out to be heels. He has so little screen time, I don't even know if he is good in the ring or not. But one thing is for sure, he is a power house, and I think WWE should give him, and non-main-event wrestlers like him more ring time. You know, matches don't always have to be centered around a feud or a rivalry...

Why are they turning people heel who i dont care about, first R Truth now Mark Henry.

the sad thing is i wont be surprised if he becomes a WHC contender as there aren't that many heels on Smackdown who are Main Eventers (although I see Cody, Drew and Swagger stepping up this year, oh and Wade once he finishes with the Corre and the IC title).

Please dont make him a main eventer WWE, he's been a very bland bad guy in the past and i dont see much room for character development. Give Mcintyre a shot, he's improved a hell of a lot in the ring and i think has been overly criticised for his work on the mic, Rhodes is brilliant on the mic but is mediocre in the ring but i do believe that he will get a shot at the title in the near future.

First of all I thought R Truths promo on Monday night was great. I have never been a fan of R Truth but he had me cracking up with his promo on the Raw stage monday. Just the looks on his face telling the people to shut up with that what and saying they are pissing him off it was great. Mark Henry give him one more World title run for his loyalty to the company and for doing whatever was asked during his time in the WWE. He jobbed he did comedy he di whatever give the guy one last title run befor he retires from active wrestling. Henry has always seemed like a truly nice guy and I can look past the fact that many claim he isn't a good worker. I never thought he was that bad no worse than Goldberg or Batista were. I'd like to see him world Champion befor he goes.
