What Happened to Drew McIntyre?

Everyone one is so high on this guy but what has he shown up to now? An IC Title run over on SD!? That's it and the mid card titles right now are irrelevant anyway. Drew is a good ring working but in now way is he great between those ropes. He certainly has some sorta charisma to him, but he isn't CM Punk on the mic just yet.

There are plenty of guys in the same situation as Drew. Don't feel so sorry for the guy.

You want to know what happened to Drew McIntyre? Cody Rhodes is what happened.

In the latter part of 2010, Rhodes and McIntyre were put together as a makeshift tag team, and for a while it worked. Here you had two very young and upcoming superstars who were as hungry as the other and just wanted gold. So the WWE gave them the tag team titles, and let them go for some time. Time continues to roll through, Rhodes & McIntyre fade apart, and are both given the ball by creative writing.

McIntyre was stopped at the line, while Rhodes took his ball and began to run. Cody Rhodes became the shining light of his former tag team and because of that, he's being rewarded. Drew McIntyre had and still has the tools to be a big hit... but he's going to need to start rebuilding the confidence of WWE's creative team. He's got to prove that the WWE's investment in him wasn't a joke and that he can be something without a partner.

If he can do that, then McIntyre can have a very successful career.

His accent means nothing to his microphone skills. His problem is when he talks on the microphone, he sounds mundane and robotic, he sounds like a Scotish version of Randy Orton.

He sells very well, he has a lot of talent, his performance in the Elimination Chamber was that of Triple H in the late nineties. He was aggressive, but quite sadly he brushed people the wrong way and blew his chance. He might get it back again, as you said in an example, Triple H was the whipping boy after the MSG incident, but Drew McIntyre isn't Triple H and at least Triple H talked on the microphone with confidence and persuasion and not a Scotish robot.

And also, McIntyre is on the RAW brand. Not Smackdown, and he did appear last week even though he's going through his divorce, but he appeared on Superstars.

Not sure how having a style on the mic that is similar (with a Scottish accent) to that of Randy Orton (the top face on Smackdown!) is a bad thing, but to each his own. I do agree with a lot of the other stuff you said though.

I think Drew at EC showed what he can actually do when given a chance. He is always going to have that agressive, brutal style that was shown there (and with his feud with Hardy as well). His match a little while back with Mysterio also illustrated this point.

To me it just seems like WWE isn't really sure what direction they want to go with concerning him. He was the Chosen One. Now it is never referenced. He had that "program" with Kelly Kelly that just didn't take. He clearly has the skills (at least in my eyes) to be, at minimum, a solid mid-card performer that is consistently in the IC and US title picture with the occasional sniff of the ME scene. His in-ring ability has improved over recently and he is adding more athletic moves into his arsenal (evidenced by the pretty nifty top-rope belly-to-belly he has done a couple times that starts with him leaping to the top rope).

All that being said, it could quickly be approaching make it or break it time for McIntyre. The adding of pyro to his entrace shows that WWE at least has plans for him in some capacity. He just needs to be given a program that lasts for a couple months (like they are doing with him and Masters) and see if he make it work. If not, it could be three stikes and he is out. You only get some many chances after all.

Drew has completely fallen from his chosen one push and that disappoints me. He deserved it more than Del Rio honestly and he seems to have nowhere to go on Raw at the moment. A face turn might help as Raw is full of heels. I really hope he does not get future endeavoured because he has potential to be a top guy and world champion. Where does he go from here? He needs a good feud where he squashes the guy to get over as a dominant character. Then he can work his way back up the card to where he belongs. Simply put he just needs to wrestle and do promos. That's it. WWE need to do their part and PUSH HIM. He will not get or remain over otherwise.

So what if Drew fights on WWE Superstars? Jack Swagger was jobbing to Santino before capturing the World Championship. Losses are really starting to mean nothing in the wrestling business; as long as you are being featured, and have a look, you have a future. Simple. I have always liked Drew, and really think he was just a victim of circumstance when he wasn't pushed to the moon with "The Chosen One" gimmick. I can list plenty of people that are bland as hell on the microphone but yet can still be on top of the WWE roster. Drew is still in his rookie years, and yes there will be people that will get pushed harder then him even if they aren't in the game for half as long (Del Rio comes to mind).

McIntyre has everything going for him but the right television timeslot. If he were featured normally, and beat a few names worth beating, then it's not impossible to see him gun of any championship. R-Truth went from being a babbling and boringly repetitive "What's Up?" stint to a paranoid yet comical heel. McIntyre just needs direction.

The best thing for him would be to go back to Friday night's. He obviously isn't very important to WWE anymore and the RAW is packed with good midcarders so Smackdown is his only chance to actually get tv time. Honestly, I don't really care for him that much. He pretty much completely plummeted after his initial push and his feud with Hardy. I really won't mind when he gets future endeavor'd.

I never found the guy himself interesting. The "Chosen One" gimmick was great, and he did pull it off fairly well, but once they stopped pushing him, he went the way of quicksand. He started to sink, and now I think it's safe to say he's had his highest point in the WWE. I predict he will be included in next years annual spring cleaning.

Or maybe even this years cuts. It wouldn't be far fetched if he was to be released within the next few months. The E has not really done much with his character since his initial push.

I think if we see him tonight at All Star Night on Raw, then he should be safe for another year.
