Underdog champions, whats the point?

Recently as we all know Chris Sabin wins the TNA title & re-loses it to Bully Ray a month later & now Daniel Bryan wins the WWE title & loses it 5 minutes later which IMO was a shit way to end such an awesome match.

Which leads me to say again, whats the fucking point of it if the reign aint for that long?

I didnt agree with Sabin being the champ, he's an awesome wrestler (dont get me wrong) but he should just stick to the X Division.

We all knew that Cena was going to drop the belt because of injury, but why couldnt WWE let Bryan keep the belt for a couple of months with an Orton cash in tease now & again?

IMO it was an easy end to the HHH & Vince story, as it was going no-where so they screw Bryan.

We all know Vince dosent like Bryan, but why screw him this way?

The same thing happened to Rey Mysterio a couple of years ago, when he won the WWE title only to lose it to Cena the same night.

Wow. If you can't see the point, I don't think we can help you. Let me ask you something, what's the most memorable part of Rey's reign? That he won. What's the most memorable part of Sabin's? Well that he won. What will be remembered about Bryan's? That he beat Cena clean to win it.

It's done for the sake of the moment which is where the money is. After that, it's a matter what's more convenient for business. Not to mention that in cases like Chris Sabin, it adds a World title reign to their resume. Which is never a bad thing no matter how short the reign is.

I completely agree with Killjoy, I'll even had fuel to the mix as I think underdogs are very important in professional wrestling. Everybody likes a good underdog story, I mean seeing a guy like Chris Sabin getting his first world title victory was a great moment whether you like him or not, or whether you hated the decision or not - because here he is, a guy that was not meant to make it, living the dream of other guys. People buy events to see this storylines play out, they want to see the good guy, specially underdogs proving the world that they can do it.

Look at last night's event - CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar was a money match and CM Punk was looked down as an underdog, so he explored that in the match. It was a freaking great story, he was punished so bad, he was robbed and he ended up losing - even if you know it's a work, you'll feel bad for the guy because he truly did everything he could. That's what I paid for, that's what people wanted to see. We also have Daniel Bryan - did you feel how special that moment was? It's as much as Sabin, here you have this guy with a very small size, a goofy beard reaching the top of his industry! That was a lovely moment, imagine what diehard Bryan fans felt for it - they had their money's worth but then... screwjob!! Randy Orton ruins the moment, the special moment and now you'll have a roar crowd, pissed of, booing everything and everyone and pulling harder for the underdog to be able to prove himself.

Good god, that's one of the reasons I just love pro-wrestling! Even though I know it's scripted, the relationship between the crowd and the storylines and wrestlers still amaze me.

Lol "we all know Vince doesn't like Bryan" do we? He's fucking over and making Vince money. It's whole "Vince is out to get me and my Indy favs" thing is about as batshit as the tea party. In your own little world.

It's about the journey, not the destination. You sound like a complete mark. DB is more over now because he got screwed. The point of rooting for the underdog is they aren't the champ, the are fighting to get there and overcoming the odds. If he has a lengthy reign, what's there to root for?

I also agree with killjoy, but the moment was just that "a moment"

If guys like Swagger, Aries & Ziggler (if he hadnt got that concussion, he'ed still be WHC now" a reign for a couple of months, why not Sabin & Bryan.

Even when Punk cashed in he got decent run, same with the miz, but look what has happened with swagger he gets referred as "former world champion" occasionally.

Im sorry if i came across as i did, i was just wondering why they cant let the underdog champ cant run with the title for a bit longer

why? What would be the point in doing that? It's not like he lost cleanly. He was a baby face who got screwed. People are pissed off and behind him even more. Al Snow and I think Raven too described it like sex/masterbating. Once you've "popped" it's like "well that was fun". But when you get close, slow down, get close, slow down, get close, slow down, that's when it's better. That's what they're doing. Sorry for the grotesque analogy but I figured having pretty good psychology guys would add credibility.

Why do you want a big title reign? I have an autographed Bryan Danielson ROH photo. I'm a pretty damn big Daniel Bryan fan. I don't want him to have it, I didn't even want him to beat Cena. I wanted Cena to unintentionally win, then Orton/HHH injured Cena and cash in that way so that the ultimate victory would be Bryan over Cena at Mania

The term "Underdog" has lost all meaning in wrestling. The most famous underdog story is probably the Judeo-Christian story of David vs Goliath. Contrary to popular belief, it wasn't size that made David the underdog, it was the fact that he wasn't a warrior and held no victories in battle. It also didn't help that he wore no armor and his only weapons were a staff and a sling. In wrestling, this would be the equivalent to a jobber getting a win over a main eventer.
