UFC On FX: Alves vs. Kampmann

Turd Ferguson

DA-DA Da Da Da Bah Da Da DADADA
  1. Thiago Alves vs. Martin Kampmann
  2. Joseph Benavidez vs. Yasuhiro Urushitani (flyweight-tourney opening round)
  3. Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall (flyweight-tourney opening round)
  4. Court McGee vs. Constantinos Philippou

Okay, so I haven't watched MMA in forever. I think the last thing I watched was Mir vs Lesnar. But this popped up in my Facebook feed, and the Cavaliers are getting murdered, so I figured, why the hell not.

Wow, that was really nice. Alves definitely had the round I thought. Not the smartest decision for Thiago to try to take him down there. Beautiful guillotine choke by Kampmann though.

I was ready to eat my words about Thiago Alves; that was easily the best he's ever looked before he handed the fight away. This is going to be something that eats at Alves for months.

And yeah... Ian McCall was most definitely robbed.

I hear the first two rounds were close with most giving McCall the first and Mighty Mouse the second. It seems to be widely accepted that the third was a 10-8 round and should have been stopped. I'm heartbroken for McCall.

Ian got rocked in the 1st Round, but he still clearly won it, IMO. He got the takedown multiple times, advanced his position on ground in one sequence, and landed some good shots of his own on the feet. 2nd Round went to Mighty Mouse, and the 3rd Round was all McCall (though I don't think it should have ever been stopped).

McCall won that fight 29-28 or 29-27 if you want to award him a 10-8 for the 3rd Round. Either way, he clearly won.

Watching post fight presser. Hopefully, Dana shows just how awesome a person he truly is and gives Creepy his win bonus. Dude deserves every dollar.

How can the magnitude of McCall's dominance in Round 3 be equal to Round 1 or 2? It's not. Most people would hesitate to give McCall a 10-8 since it was an entire round of dominance but it was far, far more signifant than any marginal advantage MM had in any of the first two rounds.

One of the very few good posts on Shitdog.

So the commissioner fucked up. Fucking really? You fucked over McCall by misreading a fucking score card? Fucking insane... I'm in fucking shock.

They set up a rematch, thank fucking god.

They fucked over both men, and the fans.

The score was supposed to be a draw, and thus a 4th round to determine the winner. Instead they read the scorecard wrong and now they have a rematch for what appears to be April, followed by the title match at some point after that.

I feel bad for the other Flyweight that won, Joe Benavidez. He has a title fight against the winner all set, and now he has to wait longer. He will end up having what is likely a longer layoff between fights, or he has to take a non-title fight between then.

Point is, this fight should have ended tonight. Everybody agrees including the judges that scored the fight. In the end, McCall has the loss on his record even though he got a rematch. I'll be sure to catch their next fight and watch McCall kick Mighty Mouses ass across the Octagon, I can't wait.

Does he have a loss? I thought they changed it to a draw.

Of course the fight should have ended, and it sucks that it didn't. Nobody thinks otherwise. But if they do change it to a draw, I'd say McCall is the luckiest of the 3 here, as he wipes a loss off his record, and he gets what is in essence a second chance.

I absolutely don't understand how McCall vs Johnson was a robbery. You had 2 rounds that had a definite winner and then 1 very close round that could've gone either way. Using the current system it was a close that deserved the extra round.

Yes, it should have been 29-28, McCall.

And this is the reason why 10-10 rounds shouldn't exist, like Fuckhead Judge #2 scored the first round. Thanks a lot, you indecisive douchebag.

What is this? Is this what was mis-read? This card says Johnson won 29-28, 29-29, 29-28. Was this improperly written down, and one of the "29-28 Johnsons" should have been "29-28 McCall"? Was this correct and then the person who gave the decision to the UFC people gave it wrong?

I won't argue as to whether they should have been scored different, as I only saw the last 2 minutes of the fight, I just have no idea what this is.

I believe that the commissioner misread Sal D'amato's card. I think he had McCall winning a 10-8 third, but the commissioner misread it as a 10-9 and that was written down on the official score card. Had it been a 10-8 third, two of the three judges would have seen the fight as a draw making the fight go to a fourth round. I'm not positive, but I believe that is what went wrong.
