Ty Burna's All Hip Hop Thread

Evenin y'all, hope all the people just jumpin in the thread is enjoying it, please continue posting in it as I"m really havin a blast here with this.

So because I'm bored mostly, I need to make another list. This shall be a good one, at least for most of us I hope. I want y'all to list your Top 5 Favorite Weed Smoking Songs. This is a special listing, because I always had specific songs to blaze up to when I was still smokin and rollin. So without further adieu:

5. Ludacris - "Blueberry Yum Yum"- This song holds a special place in my weed smoking list, because it just so happens that Blueberry Yum Yum was the very first weed I ever smoked, and I only got to smoke it 5 times in my life. Not only that, but Ludacris was awesome on this track, some of the rhymes were funny as shit, and it's a song that you can flow right along with.

4. SPM - "Mary Go Round- Similar to Blueberry Yum Yum, this was a great chill and smoke song, one of my favorite SPM songs as well. SPM has got such a smooth and calm delivery on this track, that after you finish the blunt you want to pass out to it. I still listen to this song on a daily basis while driving to work.

3a. Bizzy Bone - "Fried Day"- Well I'm gonna warn y'all now, the top 3 are all by Bone Thugs, or a member of the group, except 3b. So we have Bizzy Bone's epic weed song Fried Day clockin in at #3. Great song to blaze to, as you can guess I prefer the chill and smoke songs rather than the energetic smoking songs. Bizzy was awesome here, using harmony and rapping at the same time. As the song begins: This is for the weedheads.

3b. Luniz - I Got 5 On It- Honestly, who hasn't heard this song? Fucking great song, I actually thought it was by Warren G the first time I heard it. I don't think I need to speak much on it, but I got 5 on it, you got 5, let's go get a dime sack.

2. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony - Weedman ft. Bluelight- This is more of an uptempo song that is mostly Bizzy rapping, but this song so much fun to bump down the backroads with a joint in hand. I had dedicated this song to a friend of mine, he was a weedman, and he wore courdoroy pants, which is the two parts of the hook: I'm the weedman, yeah boy I wear courdoroy.

1. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony - Buddah Lovaz- My favorite weed smoking song of all time, easily. Why? Because this was the very first weed song I smoked to, and it was a song I loved for 2 years before I even started to blaze up. Mostly nostalgia on the old days, but I really love this song, and this was on Bone's best album E1999 when they were harmonizing like crazy on every track. If you've never heard this song, I suggest finding it now.

So from a former weedhead to you, here's my smoking list, and I want to see your list you damn stoners ;).

Good idea buddy, I was thinking of posting something similiar to this in here a few days ago but crashed out instead. I must say though dude...NO CYPRESS HILL?!?! They're the ultimate bud smokin' rap group!

I'm only going to include songs that are mostly/totally about weed, and not songs that have a few lines here and there about smoking, because that would include pretty much every rap song ever made. So, only songs TOTALLY about weed here.

In no particular order of course...

Cypress Hill - "Hits From the Bong - Any stoner and rap fan knows this song by heart, infact even stoners who DON'T like rap will sit there and sing every single word of this song with you. The opening bass bumping and the song of the bong being hit and everyone around you is sure to go "Awwww yeah!" and jump into a big sing-a-long. Everything you'd want out of a rap song, especially a rap song about the glory of the bong. Probably the all time greatest rap song about weed.

Redman - "How to Roll a Blunt" - I'm not a huge Redman fan (kind of always felt like he jumped onto Method Man's fame and never let go), but this song is a stone cold classic, teaching the eternal fine craft of how exactly to roll yourself a blunt. Great beat, informative lyrics on the craft of blunt rolling and just a party atmosphere. Good song.

Cypress Hill - "Roll It Up, Light It Up, Smoke It Up" - I wasn't sure if I was going to include more then one Cypress song, but this one had to go in. Everyone probably remembers the opening to this song from the ghetto-stoner classic Friday, when Craig first gets high (Mary Jane by Rick James which is also in Friday is probably the greatest weed song EVER). A forgotten classic from Cypress here with a really funky, head-trip kind of beat that goes along great with a real potent indoor strain.

Cypress Hill - "I Wanna Get High" - All right fuck it, yep, ANOTHER Cypress song guys. They deserve it, Cypress Hill has always and will always be the number one stoner rap group ever, maybe even the number one stoner music group of any genre. Another absolute classic with a spacey beat that immediately sucks you in and has your head nodding along while you grin and choke on that blunt. Possibly my absolute favorite Cypress song, you have to check it out.

Master P - "Pass Me Da Green" - Master P is hardcore underrated. Most people remember him for his overexposure, his awful WCW appearances, and for slowly becoming a joke in the rap game. But anyone who knows anything about rap will tell you that Ghetto Dope is a rap classic, and this is one of the best songs on it. Another one of those slow, head-boppin' kind of rap songs with flawless deliver from P. "Pass me da green I need some WEED with my Hennessy!" You'll be repeating it over and over with this great song.

Honestly I kind of spaced out and just included a few that came to mind first. I'm probably forgetting a few, but those are five weed classics that I always had bumping on the boombox when I first started blazin'.

I'm gonna spark up a bowl right now in honor of this thread, and you Ty. And I'm gonna listen to these five songs while I'm smokin' it :D

My 5 favorite weed songs are different. There are a few the same as other people's, but I have some of my own. What makes a good weed song to me is just the feeling you get from the song, and how much it makes you wanna light one up. These are in no particular order.

Master P-Pass Me Da Green
Strongly agree with xfear in the fact that P is underrated. He did get overexposed, but no one talks about him anymore at all. While he doesn't really do anything big now, this motherfucker had an empire in No Limit. This is just an enjoyable ass song, you gotta love if you're into blazin'.

Ludacris-Blueberry Yum Yum
Damn this is a good song. Probably my favorite off of Red Light District. Listening to Luda talk about having the munchies just gets you in the mood to light up, and head to the store to get some food. Good memories to this track. I really hope that I get the chance to smoke some blueberry yum yum in my life.

Styles P-Good Times
This is a song I first heard on the CD, Source Music Hits 5 when I was young kid. I always loved it. When I heard it, did I blaze? Fuck no. But if any song ever would have inspired me to smoke it would have to be this. Styles goes hard as fuck on this track, and really must be havin' fun!

Three 6 Mafia-I'm So High
Yeah, these motherfuckers were probably high on a lot of shit while laying down this track, but it doesn't matter. The hook says, "All I smell like is smoke", and I love the song. Three 6 might not have the best lyrics of all time, but I love their gritty rhymes. Them selling out really fucked me up. They made some of my favorite songs of all time period.

Gangsta Pat-I Wanna Smoke
I doubt anyone has ever even heard this song, but its from a guy named Gangsta Pat from the M Town. This song was introduced to me a few years on youtube, after I had looked at his CD, called, "Da Dro", at Sam Goody when I was younger. While not containing the best lyrics, its a fun song, and it definitely makes you wanna smoke sumn!

Great songs so far, here are some I smoke to....

HOMIES 2 SMOKE WITH:VIOLENT J feat. MONOXIDE
""I don't need a brain, I don't need a fuckin thing, I just want some homies to smoke with" says it all. When I smoke alone this song is in my head.

CHARLIE BROWN:ANYBODY KILLA(ABK)
This song is funny as fuckin shit. ABK raps bout not wanting to buy some shitty weed from the shitty weed man. I'm sure we all been there.

MR. SESAME SEED:VIOLENT J & ABK
Yet another song about mother fucks selling bullshit bags. "that shit looks like a bag of popcorn" funny shit. This song lead me to calling my weedman Orval Rednbocker, he did not find it to funny.

SO HIGH:TWIZTID
I fuckin love this song I was going to list it last but I got high.(I know that was lame) I saw them live and when this song came on I got on my brothers sholders and light a blunt. Then MONOXIDE pointed at me and sung I thought it was great. Every TWIZTID cd has one or more songs bout weed. They were even in a poll on high times for best weed band.

I see I put nothing but PSYCHOPATHIC RECORDS so I saved the last spot

DR. GREEN THUMB:CYPRESS HILL
I agree with X that even people who don't like rap like Cypress Hill( if they smoke) this is one of my fav. songs to smoke to. Shit who am I kidding I'll smoke to anything.

This topic gave me a reason to smoke before work. But I get up at 4:15 just so I can Smoke at 4:20. I dont go to work until 7 ( shit, I might have a prob.)

Here are some songs that I think are great smokin songs.

The songs aren't in any particular order.

Mary Go Round by SPM: This is a song that can make you just sit back, chill & just relax while your smokin a joint. It's also one of my favorite SPM songs of all time as it's a song that alot of people an easily follow the words to. I still listen to this song sometimes whenever i'm either on here or whenever i'm driving to work.

I Want To Get High by Cypress Hill: A fuckin classic stoner song & it has a classic spacy beat to it that just suck your ass into it & it makes your head nod along with it. This is one of my favorite Cypress Hill songs & like Xfear said, if you haven't checked this song out yet, well you won't be disappointed once you check it out.

Blueberry Yum Yum by Ludacris: Damn this is one of my favorite songs of his off of the Red Light District. Just listenin to Luda rap about havin the munchies & shit just gets your ass in the mood to break into your stash & just light that shit up. It's also a good song that you can just flow right along with.

Hits From The Bong by Cypress Hill: Yes another Cypress Hill song in this list. This is a song that most stoners know by the heart & even stoners who don't really like Cypress Hill all that much or rap in particular will just sing along with you. This song is everything that you want from a rap song, especially a rap song that raps about the glory of the bong. This is truly a classic song & it's a great song for all stoners alike.

I Got 5 On It by Luniz: Awww yeah this song is the shit right here. I ain't gotta say much on this song as this song is fuckin catchy as hell. Again i'm not gonna speak on it much as Ty pretty much covered the basis of the damn song, but I did love gettin high while this song was playin on the damn radio.

That's my list of songs right there.

Good idea buddy, I was thinking of posting something similiar to this in here a few days ago but crashed out instead. I must say though dude...NO CYPRESS HILL?!?! They're the ultimate bud smokin' rap group!

Shit I didn't even include any Kottonmouth Kings songs either, but that's the biggest thing, there are so many songs to choose from. I love Cypress Hill and I didn't even think of them when making my list, same goes with KMK. So many weed songs, so little weed to smoke. I think KMK honestly does give Cypress Hill a run for their money as the ultimate weed group however. I've seen them live in concert, and that is basically what every song of theirs is about. On stage KMK had their Cannabis Cup from Amsterdamn up there, they brought out this gigantic joint and were smoking it on stage, I mean it was some crazy shit, and their music is catchy and fun to bump to. One of their best songs is Tangerine Sky and if ya haven't heard it, check it out. Otherwise I recommend their albums: Royal Highness, Rolling Stoned, The Green Album, and High Society.

I am trying to find a song. It was on The Box alot in like 93/94.
It was by two guys, I think they were from Atl. The only part of the song I remember goes......
"Black man, black man turn that shit down, you know that America don't wanna hear the sound of the bass drum, dumb dumb go back to Africa ...."

It says somthing about Elvis and pelvis but I can't think of how it went.

I bet this is a long shot but if anyone could tell me what song it is I would forever be in debt to them. I have looked high( I was very) and low for it and nothing, so thought I would ask.

THX.

The song is "Born to Roll" by Masta Ace. It's a very good song from a very underrated emcee. It came off the album SlaughtaHouse that he put out with a group he was in. They called themselves Masta Ace Incorporated. Masta Ace is from Brooklyn and if you get a chance to listen to any of his material then do it. He isn't a big name but his skills are on par with guys like Rakim and Big Daddy Kane.

Gonna make this a quick post because I'm bouncin out of work here in a couple minutes. But just something to throw out for you guys, have you ever dedicated a song to someone that passed, or you no longer see or hear from?

Basically I've never had to dedicate this song to anyone before, but for my grandfather I have to. I've dedicated Bone Thugs-n-Harmony - Tha Crossroads to him, and every time I've listened to that song since has brought some tears to my eyes.

I know this ain't my usual drawn out posts, but I wanted to throw it out there right away while the idea is fresh in my mind. Get to discussing, I'll be back with some further comments later.

I've never really dedicated a song to just one person, but anytime someone I know dies the song that gets me through it is "Good Die Young" by D12. D12 usually has shock lyrics about violence, but in this song there's none of that. They truly speak from the heart and every verse is good, especially the verse from Proof.

What is everyone's opinion on "Drake". He is the young, new hip/hop star emerging on the scene and is getting huge buzz. He had a #1 urban single, before he was even signed to the lable and hip/hop heavyweights like Lil Wayne & Kanye West all want to work with him.

Alot of Hip/Hop fans are calling him the "saviour" of hip/hop because they caim he bring so respect back to the genre that people like Soulja Boy & Flo Rida have made a joke. So does anybody think he'll be the next big thing in Hip/Hop are quickly fade out? Is he a saviour? Or a packaged, star? Personally I like some of his songs, but I don't get all the hype.

While Drake maybe good, I don't necessarily think he's the so called savior of hip hop for a number of reasons listed below.

1. It doesn't take just one rapper to bring hip hop prestige & credibility(Just look at the times when Run DMC was on top & the East/West coast feud in the 90's as multiple artists helped take it to the next level) that it desperately needs.

2. Most of hip hip today(besides Nas, Young Jeezy, T.I, Ludacris, Eminem & Jadakiss) are surrounded with clown ass bitch ass rappers like Yung Cock(Yung Joc), Punk Daddy(Diddy), Flo Rida, Lil Shit(Lil Wayne), T-Shit(T-Pain) & Soulja Girl(Soulja Boy).

3. We really don't know if he's really gonna stick with what got him this recognition or become like Lil Shit(Lil Wayne) & just sell out like a little bitch & just start making shitty ass club hits to make little girls cream their pants everytime they hear his song.

Now as far as to whether he's the next big thing or not, well if he does well & doesn't sell out then I think he's got a shot, but the thing is is that he can't get hip hop to the promise land all by himself & I think that may hurt him down the line, but I think if he sticks with what got him this recognition then he has the opportunity to be at least a decent hip hop artist. His career can only go as far as he wants it to be.

My boy used to listen to Days Of Our Livez by Bone. He was killed 5 years ago, that song will make me cry if I hear it and I am alone. Other than that any 2Pac song always makes me think of him.

Well now to smoke in his memory...R.I.P. Josh...

I'm keeping this in the All Hip Hop Thread, why? Because it's my baby and I'll coddle it if I damn well please.

Now as far as Drake goes, I have not heard the motherfucker yet, let me go grab a song real quick, but before I give him a quick listen, I have to say that any artist that is cosigned if you will by Lil Wayne and Kanye, I don't think is going to be the "savior" of hip hop, mostly because those are two artists that are killing the damn genre in general. But I will not judge a book by its cover.

Alright after listening to a few songs, this is what I've gotten out of it. He's not a hip hop artist, he's not a rapper, he's an R&B artist in the vein of Usher, in fact he sounds like a younger Usher to me. So the reason why Lil Wayne and Kanye want to work with him is because they can use him up like everyone did with Akon and T-Pain. Now don't get me wrong, this Drake cat has some singing skill, and he'll be good for them slow grinding songs, but he's not a rapper. I repeat, he is NOT a rapper, he's an R&B singer straight up. If there is going to be a savior of hip hop, he's going to come up through the underground, and he's gonna be able to spit lyrically and powerfully. He's not going to be a glorified R&B singer that does love and club songs with the likes of Kanye, Jay-Z, or Lil Wayne for that matter.

Not hatin on the dude, he's got a good sound, I like it in fact. But the savior of hip hop? Please more like the savior of Lil Wayne and Kanye's records when it comes to harmony and choruses.

Days of Our Livez was a great song, sorry to hear about ya boy Lama, that song always brings a tear to my eyes as well for no reason at all. 2pac has quite a few songs that almost bring me to tears as well.

I'm putting this down in my will I'm so serious about it, when I die and it comes to my funeral, I want Tha Crossroads and Days of Our Livez played during the funeral. I don't care if it's at a church or not, that is the only requirement I have when it comes to my funeral. Oh and they better smoke for me before I go.

This is my first time in this thread, so excuse me if I cover something already said. Hip-hop/Rap, anything of the sort is not my style. I listen to older stuff, like George Clinton, as well as Busta, Coolio, Missy, Jay-Z's early days, and even some stuff like Ashanti, Lil Kim, and Big Pun. I've been sitting here on WZ all night, listening to the radio in the background. I think I may have noticed a big piece of the downfall of the genre.

Too many artists today are worried about showing off their skills with rhymes (Kanye), or with making a good beat (BEP, Lil Wayne), that they forget to write a good chorus/hook. They start off hot, and get the song going well, and then every 25-30 seconds, we get the same repeated lines over and over again. They started repeating verses, and repeating the same few words throughout the song, and it kills it. It may work well in the clubs, but save that shit for the remix.

Welcome to the Hip Hop Thread NSL, it may not be your style, but check out some of the artists we've discussed, you may find some other hip hop artists that you'll like.

Anyway back on to what you were saying here. The thing about hip hop is, that it should be about the true lyricists of the genre. Kanye tries to act like he's a great lyricist, but in all honesty, he's not. He has some decent wordplay and all of a sudden he's got great rhymes and an awesome lyricist. Eh let me just say that he's nothing more than a glorified club hit maker who complains and whines too damn much about how he's not getting enough awards and what not. He steals shit straight from other artists and uses it as his own, and that don't get me started on the Autotune bullshit he uses.

Meanwhile, and we've mentioned this before, hit up the first few posts in the thread, Lil Wayne and artists like him are really hurting hip hop because they don't release quality shit anymore. They get a hot beat, and just mumble their way through it, and if that's not enough to make it a club banger, they throw T-Pain or Akon on there to try covering up their lack of ability. I got nothing against Akon, I actually enjoy his music, but T-Pain is nothing more than a one trick pony that's been beaten to death over and over again.

But I digress, let's talk about the positive things hip hop is going through now. I think someone mentioned in the favorite underground rapper thread, that no artist is really underground anymore because of the internet. I'll give it a small bit of credit, as the Internet has given us an easier medium to find new artists, and spread their music to new listeners. But even still, those artists we are spreading, are still not getting the major playtime on the radio, or on MTV, BET, etc. Why you ask? Because they don't fit the model of your typical rapper they feature on said channels and radio. They don't put out shit songs like most mainstream artists do, and because they aren't club bangers, they get no radio play. Everyone acted like Lupe Fiasco was a new trend when he got big, but in all honesty the alternative hip hop scene has been strong for many years, but it's been all underground.

And with that being said, we're getting to the point that underground artists are finally reaching some solid success. Atmosphere from Minnesota has been selling solid enough to get some attention from hip hop magazines now. It's a shame it took this long since they've been releasing great albums for a number of years now. And then you look at Tech N9ne who reached a pretty substantial milestone for an independent label and artist, he reached 1 million albums sold overall for him as an artist. Now you look at that and think 1 million isn't much when you have some artists going 3x or 4 x platinum and shit for one album. Yeah that's all great and wonderful, but how much advertising do they get for said album from all the major music channels, as well as the record label putting the album out? Tech has done it on his own with his own record label and by touring nonstop to get his name out there.

To wrap this up, I have to say that the underground is thriving because of the access the internet provides for these artists, and in general underground and indie hip hop is probably at it's biggest point in the history of hip hop. We all know the mainstream hip hop is going to shit, so lets celebrate the fact that the underground/indie scene is growing so immensely and bringing great new talents to us that would never have the opportunity to have their voice and their music heard because of the mainstream record label bullshit.

Anyone here like Black Star (it's a long thread and I haven't had time to look through it all) - one of my favourite hip hop albums ever, and the best thing I've ever heard from Mos Def or Talib Kweli...anyone else dig?

First off, I really like you Raw Power, but REALLY need to start adding a bit more to some of your posts in the non-spam section. Just come up with a couple more sentences of bullshit if you have to, because posts that short are often times subject to infractions for being considered spam on these forums. Just a helpful suggestion.

Secondly, yes we have brought up Black Star in this thread before, and I agree completley that it's the best work Kweli and Mos Def have ever done. The Black Star album is one of my favorites, and brings back alot of good memories of bumping that album in my buddy's '88 Celica and smoking blunts. Great stuff.

And I realize this is INCREDIBLY random, but I just CANNOT stop listening to this Nas song. Proof that Nas is the greatest living rapper around, hands down. I've been listening to this song almost nonstop for like 18 hours now.

I probably can't stop listening to it because I've always adored the James Brown song "The Boss" that it samples.

Which brings me to my next question to you hip hop fans...who do you think is the best rapper alive? Key word there being ALIVE, so no Biggie or Tupac people. Personally, like I said above, I think it's Nas and I don't think it's even close. He makes popular rappers like Lil' Wayne look like child's play in comparison, and if anyone mentions Jay-Z, I will lose all respect for them. Nas murders Jay in every way a rapper can.

So guys...best rapper alive? Who is it?

EDIT: This thread has now been stickied, and deservedly so. Let's try and keep all the hip hop questions and list ideas and general discussion in this great thread everyone!

Ah yes, I was waiting for the day we would get to his argument. Now Nas is definitely one of the top guys in hip hop today, I won't argue that, and very easily I could consider him the very best rapper alive. However, for argument's sake, I'm going with Krayzie Bone here. Why? Because no Midwest rapper will get any love unless I speak out, and Krayzie Bone is just top notch all across the board.

If you want those hard gangsta rap:

You have songs like this, when it's a song about nothin but taking out motherfuckers. It also shows off his amazing speed and flow.

And then if you want something a little bit softer, more laid back, you have songs like this:

This song is touching, talking about how we all just trying to reach the same goal, and how he misses some homies that are gone. Well shit you just need to listen to the song to get the feeling of it.

Oh and how could I forget the Bob Marley song he was allowed to remix. This ain't an official video, but eh it's about the music not the video:

I don't know of many other artists that have been allowed to remix such a great Marley song into something else, but if Krayzie is allowed to, I think that's a pretty good sign that the Marley family sees Krayzie as very talented.

Now moving on with the Krayzie Bone video experience, here's something a little more uplifting party style song:

Awesome song, probably one of my favorite ones when it comes to Krayzie Bone. But this song shows his ability to make music that gets motherfuckers hyphy and ready to get drunk and party up like no other.

Now I also want to bring this song into the discussion, I feel this song represents the social issues and struggle of the street that Krayzie regularly makes and raps about.

Some other songs, including some storytelling songs he's released, showing off that he is very solid in doing that as well:

Finally, I want to throw this video out there, it's more of an R&B track, but it just goes to show how versatile Krayzie is with the music he makes.

So with all this material I've posted here, I just want to throw out that Krayzie should at least get some consideration as the best rapper alive right now. He's such a versatile artist, and there's a reason why all these other rappers are tryin to get Krayzie on their track. He can bring that spitfire flow, he can keep it laid back with a softer style rap, and then switch it all up into a energetic party song, and finally finish it all up with songs that touch on important social issues, and storytelling as well. Fast, lyrical, and very thought out, Krayzie has all the ingredients to be one of the very best rappers to ever live when it's all said and done.

As far as the best rapper alive goes, for me it comes down to two guys. I believe Eminem and Nas are miles ahead of every other rapper in the game. If I had to pick one though I would probably go with Eminem. I may be a little biased because he is my favorite rapper and the biggest reason that I listen to hip hop, but no one can doubt his ability. As far as his rhyme schemes and wordplay go he's almost untouchable. His first 3 albums "Slim Shady LP", "Marshall Mathers LP", and "The Eminem Show" are all classics. "Encore" wasn't very good, but he has made up for that with a great album in "Relapse". A lot of people think he goes to over board with some of his lyrics and song content, but if you get past the shock value it's impossible to deny that he's one of the best ever.

Here's some of Em's best songs

who do you think is the best rapper alive? Key word there being ALIVE, so no Biggie or Tupac people. Personally, like I said above, I think it's Nas and I don't think it's even close. He makes popular rappers like Lil' Wayne look like child's play in comparison, and if anyone mentions Jay-Z, I will lose all respect for them. Nas murders Jay in every way a rapper can.

So guys...best rapper alive? Who is it?

Well now in my opinion it comes down to 3 guys as I personally believe that Eminem, Nas & Ice Cube(when he releases new material) are was too far ahead of the other rappers in the game today, but if I had to pick anybody from this great trio of talent I would probably go with Eminem as well. His ability is one of the best in the game today & he's nearly untouchable(there are some who can match or do better than him in this department) when it comes to his rhyme schemes & wordplay. I consider the Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show & Encore(I know i'm gonna catch some heat for puttin this album in here, but I loved this album) are in their own way classics & of course his albums Infinite & the Slim Shady EP are great as well as his latest album Relapse was a great album.

Lots of people that I know of thinks Em goes overboard with his lyrics due to the whole shock value thing in some of his songs, but if you listen to songs of his like Til I Collapse, White America, Guilty Conscience, The Way I Am, Like Toy Soldiers, Soldier & even his hooks off of some of the D12 songs that they've released & you'll find out that it's impossible to think that he's not one of the best rappers alive.

There was a little oversight on my part when it comes to the greatest rapper alive. I said Eminem and Nas were miles ahead of everyone else but let's not forget the fact that some of the veterans like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and KRS-One are still alive. They obviously don't put out much material now, but that doesn't change the fact that they are some of the greatest emcees of all time. I still would say Eminem is the best, but I know that guys like Rakim and KRS can still spit with the best of them and they are right up there when you consider the best rappers alive.

Thanks for bringing up the veterans Sexy, I was actually about to make a post bringing up guys like KRS, Rakim, Chuck D, and Kane. It's a damn shame how few modern hip hop fans know their rap history, or about how those four men completely revolutionized and changed the rap game in the 80's.

Rakim was the original lyrical genius. Before guys like Nas, he was ripping songs to pieces and completely embarrassing his peers. At the time when Rakim & Eric B. made it big, the only MC who put as much focus into his lyrics as Rakim did was Kane. But Kane was always more of a smooth, laid back kind of guy. Rakim on the other hand was vicious, he picked up that mic, spit the truth, and you had no choice but to believe everything he said. He took a genre of music that was becoming stale with nothing but party-anthems and B-Boy jams, and turned it into an artform. And he's still got it today.

Chuck D and KRS also can't be looked over because of their introduction of politics to the rap game. As I said before, before these guys rap was nothing but B-Boy shout outs and party anthems (not to disrespect groups like the Beastie Boys or Run DMC) but those two helped to make rap a genre that intelligent people could enjoy as well. KRS specifically, in my opinion, is probably the most intelligent rapper to ever pick up a mic, which is saying alot considering he could also be considered one of the Godfathers of gangsta rap as well. But that's just how eclectic and talented the man is.

I had the chance to see KRS a few months back in Providence, and I can tell you from first hand experience, the man still has it.

With all that said, I'm still going to go with Nas, simply out of personal preference. As much as I adore the old school, for my money nobody can rip a song to pieces like Nas. The lyrics he spits are just insane, and downright perplexing that anyone could come up with.

#100 post right here. Awesome, truly awesome that we've reached this point already.

It's honestly hard to pick the best rapper alive, because we still have quite a few amazing rappers alive still to this day. As X and Big Sexy brought up, we still got the old guard in Rakim, KRS, Big Daddy Kane etc. still rocking the mic. II could even make a case for Slick Rick being one of the greatest rappers alive too if it really came down to it.

But as it stands here are the standings so far:

Eminem: 2
Nas: 1
Krayzie Bone: 1

But I do have to ask you guys, am I the only one that sees Krayzie Bone as one of the best out there? I guess I am slightly (ok extremely) biased when it comes to this discussion, but I honestly and truly feel that he should get more recognition then he does. He'll always be associated with Bone Thugs, but when he's doing his solo thing, he's putting out great albums and songs. So I just gotta ask, what's your opinion on Krayzie Bone? I think I've made my opinion about Em and Nas pretty well known, but I haven't seen anyone talk about my nomination. This is a bit of a selfish question I realize this, but I really don't care if it is or not.
