Yeah, saying it's the worst Raw in a decade is a big example of hyperbole. Off the top of my head, the worst Raw was, I think, the December 21, 2009 episode. It was mostly 2 hours of lousy promo segments, cheap comedy skits and maybe 5 minutes of wrestling if that. The main event was supposed to be DX vs. Jeri-Show for the tag titles, a match I'd been looking forward to, but Trips gets them DQ'd purposely about 30 seconds in by kicking the ref in the nuts just to deny Jeri-Show their title rematch. From top to bottom, that was the worst episode of Raw I've seen. I wasn't wild about last night's show, but at least it did have some good moments.
I thought it started off well, I enjoyed the first half hour or so especially. It differed so much from the standard wrestling program format that we're so used to seeing. The six man tag was fun while it lasted, Mark Henry delivered again, his match with Orton was decent while it lasted, Cody Rhodes looking as though he's going to have a full on feud with Orton might work and it was nice to see Miz & R-Truth back. The follow up to the walk out last week just fell flat and there was so much chaotic booking that I thought I was watching TNA at times. Matches being interrupted & stopped, being changed and altered right in the middle of them, big returns & "surprises" that seem to be done just for the utter sake of shock value, etc.
For me, however, Raw has been consistently good. I've really enjoyed Raw, overall, but tonight just didn't click. As long as last night doesn't become the norm for Raw, things should bounce back nicely next week. The worst Raw in 10 years? Not a chance, but definitely the worst Raw of 2011.
