Well I'm an independent, so it doesn't matter too me, I have no party alliances, I just dislike Obama. Out of all the people complaining about the economy, how many bought things beyond their means with credit cards and buried themselves in debt? I understand that oil goes up in price and people pay more, but you have to sacrifice something to make up for it. Don't charge your I-pod on a credit card if you can't buy it. People want to point the finger, and it's usually to whomever is in charge, but a little self responsibility wouldn't hurt either.

True, but what do you think is going to happen when said business man is taxed an extra 3.6%. They are wealthy business men for a reason. They'll raise the price on their goods and not hire as many employees to make up the difference.

don't mind if i attempt this, considering it's been a good 11 years since i've been in an american hsitory class.

Originally, the representatives voted amongst themselve the president of the united states.

Currently we use the electorial college, where each state is given a point for their number of seats in Congress. In theory, the person that wins each states popular vote, wins the total points from said state. So in theory, our votes go to our representatives to vote for the president. The people don't actuall elect the president, our representatives do. I can't recall a time that a representative went against the popular vote of their state, because they are not obligated to do so.

agreed, both our fucked beyond belief in this election. They are inheriting a bad situation. The housing crisis's seeds were sown in the clinton administration, the war and energry crisis of the bush administration, this president is going to have to pull out a miracle.

My teacher said that the democrates want to remove the soldiers from irak and that democrates will have a foreign policy where they discuss things before making action. And that the republikans are usually agressive in their foreign policy, and will probably start some war in the future. So wouldnt it make sense to vote for obama?

Well, whoever is President of the US is clearly a person who is going to affect the world. We're a superpower and clearly the man who runs the superpower is a man who has a big say in the world.

As far as Iraq, well, McCain supported the war and Obama did not. McCain's general plan is to keep bases and troops there, for, well, forever. Obama supports a responsible phased withdrawal out of Iraq, but considers Afghanistan and Pakistan important places to focus on. I imagine both candidates will keep troops in Afghanistan, but Obama is more likely to pull them out of Iraq sooner. It's probably going to be like a 10 year program anyway, so even Obama wouldn't get to see the whole thing through.

As for foreign policy, I would look at the way both voted on the Iraq war again, and know that Obama has gone on the record saying he would negotiate with the leaders of Pakistan and Iran while McCain would not. Take that to mean what you will.

Well the Iraqi governement has set a date for 2010 to be out, so that's irrelevant at this point.

The rest is subjective though, and again, aggresive stereotypes.

Honestly, I don't remember how the Roman elections were done (I think I learned about that in 10th grade). I will tell you that each US state is assigned a number of electoral votes, with the more densely populated states getting higher electoral votes (ex. California hold 55 electoral votes while Illinois holds 11). Whichever canidate gets the larger number of electoral votes, wins.

agreed, every bit of information you get from Iraq has such a subjective biased towards it, it's ridiculous. I'll leave it to the people that have been there to decide upon it.

No, but it's not fair to lump all Republicans together. Bush's way of doing things will not necessarily be McCain's way if he's elected. We hope.

You're right, it is wrong to lump all Republicans together like that but in general, their economic policies aren't working at the moment. I'm not saying I don't get why they're doing it, but its stagnated and freezing up.

But McCain has agreed and voted with Bush very often...not to mention he wants to keep the tax cuts presented by Bush permanent...

this is probably a more complicated wording for the way that Roman Elections for Magistrates goes.

But simply put, Rome was divided into centuries (not 100 people) but each century voted and whoever won that vote in the century resulted in 1 vote for the candidates, I can't remember if the patrician centuries votes counted for more, but they voted first.

Here's an interesting health care statistic I came across for your discussion pleasure.

McCain's plan would insure 5 million people by 2013 and raise the national debt 1.3 trillion. Obama's plan would insure 34 million by 2013 for 1.6 trillion. So basically for 300 million more you get nearly 30 million more people with health insurance.

check out any of the major news sites, cnn, nbc, abc, foxnews, all of them will have something on the front page. Results are starting to come in, but it's a loooong process.
