The Official Election Night Bash @ Wrestlezone's Forums

Holy Fuck is that the most ignorant thing I have ever seen. Rome is called the eternal city for a fucking reason, it has been continuously inhabited since pre-700 BC. I can't remember the oldest figure that they have worked out because I don't have my notes for my Origins of Rome paper on me. But the dying days of Rome, Rome got invaded, simple as that they got too big and got invaded on more sides than the military could deal with. I should know this shit because Rome is what I like to study for my Ancient History part of my Bachelor of Arts, the other Major I have is History and I have been going into a fair amount of detail over the 3 great monotheistic religions this past semester from c. 50 BC. So no Romes collapse to being a minor city state was not an embarrassment it was due to barbarian invasions taking advantage/exploiting Roman expansion to the point of in-sustainability.

I was talking about the emperor Nero playing his fiddle as Rome burned. IMO that is analogous to Obama.

I was going somewhere with that, but the thought faded incompletely in the wind.

I could see it now. Canada flooding the North with maple syrup so the cars can't move and the people all drown in sugary death. Then the mounties can come cattle prod us all to death. It would be Monty Python meets Saturday Morning Wrestling Challenge on yo ass.

Well, congrats to everyone who voted for Obama.

So, now the Democrats run Congress, the Senate and presidency. Yikes. But I'm not some conservative moron that’s going to claim this is the end of the World as we know it. All I can say is that the next four years will be interesting, to say the least. But they better do a damn good job, otherwise the shit will only last four years. The American people won't be patient with the Democrats like they were with Republicans. Is that wrong? Maybe, but that's the cards they are dealt with and need to settle on. If they do a decent job and do bring along a POSITIVE 'change', then they have nothing to worry about. However, if not.. then liberals can no longer bitch because they finally had their chance and didn’t succeed.

I just pray some dumb fuck redneck/skinhead doesn't try and assassinate Obama. That's the last thing anyone needs.

Nero, Nero, Nero. Rome didn't fall with him. So your statement about referring to him is null and void. Nero actually gets a bad rap because all the sources we have, Tacitus and the Octavia being chief among them portray him as terrible. Guess what he was better than Caligula who made a Horse a Senetor and decided that it was a great idea to build a bridge over the bay of Naples,

Probably from about Herculaneum through to roughly around where Sorrento is. Nero also didn't play his fiddle as Rome burned. That would be impossible, Fiddles were invented after the violin was, and that was another 1500 years or so later. give or take around 50 years. So saying that he played his fiddle just shows that you don't fully grasp the concept that the saying encompasses. the saying is that Nero Fiddled (this is a word that means along similar lines of what C. Montgomery Burns does when he says excellent, though in a more fun way) While Rome Burned. This means that he did nothing as Rome Burned which is partially true. He Ran away like a large number of Romes population of the time. He was either complicit in the reignition in another part of Rome (the reignition of the fire in another part of Rome did occur) or he was attempting to organise what to do to save Rome from burning down completely again.

I heard a theory that says he actually played a lyre, which was around at the time, as Rome burned.

And Caligula would have been a good example, but he is associated with hedonism, and trying to convince a bunch of 20-somethings that wild orgies are bad is a losing battle.

I was just looking for an example that would connect.

As much as I appreciate getting educated on the history of Rome, I'm pretty sure that my analogy falls flat now, so thanks.

And I know Rome didn't fall with Nero, the embarrassment was that the city burned after the death Jesus, and yet the evil Christians' homes were protected from the blaze. I know that story. Like I said, didn't complete my thought, and it fell flat already.

yeah the Burning of Rome and when Jesus' death was are different time. c.50 AD when Rome burned Jesus had been, officially according to the Romans, dead for around 20-25 years. Christians were an easy scapegoat. That is all. While it is possible that militant groups of early Christian leaders did it, it is highly unlikely since before this Christianity was just seen as a form of Judaism.

And there are plenty of fucktard Emperors of Rome, Diocletian, Domitian, Commodus, Didius Julianus and Caracalla being prime examples, Probably not a good Idea to go with Diocletian as a Fucktard Emperor that is just what I think of him.

Obama better know what he's doing.

But oh well. Spared everyone from hoping that McCain would hold off on taking a punt at the bucket so that Palin wouldn't be in charge.

Yikes, control of the senate, housre and presidency. This doesn't look good at all. Jimmy Carter anyone?

she thought that the election was British election and that Blair was pres of the UK.

What a tit

How much do you want for you to kill her for me? My friend told me he was talking to some people about the American election. He asked them if they knew who was involved in UK politics - they said they didn't know but they knew "Gordon Brown isn't prime minister".

This shitty country.

Anyway, that's sixty pages ago. Obama won. Yay. I would have been fine with McCain winning, though I think the symbolism of Obama winning is powerful. It's Sarah Palin that I had a massive problem with.

Democrats are large and in charge.

I can't be bothered reading 62 pages. Can somebody tell me what happened, that didn't involve the election?

I enjoy the mccain supporters saying that Obama only won becuase he is black.

when Mccain won EVERY state below the mason dixon line besides florida and VA. and Obama BARLEY won VA.

I imagine that wasnt racially motivated at all, just a cute little coincedence eh??
I noticed...time and again...that NOBODY I talked to voted for McCain. They voted against Obama.

Even in this thread, it's anti-Obama, not pro-McCain. I always find that interesting as well.

If the Democrats run the country and fail, then how is it any different than what the Republicans did from 2000-2006? I agree, if they take their shot and fail, they'll only have themselves to blame.

But, if they can keep the Republicans out of power long enough, I think you'll begin to see improvements in our country.

I just pray some dumb fuck redneck/skinhead doesn't try and assassinate Obama. That's the last thing anyone needs.
THey will. They may not even get close, but people will plan it.

This is what is known as a "major league ass-kicking".

You Americans really care about your president ey. In Australia, we seriously don't give a shit who gets elected in. And we don't get 12 months of hype either. I like the way we do things here better.

Things work quicker and more efficiently with one party in charge. It's why our prime minister is drawn from the winning party.

everyone's forgotten that the democrats have had a majority for the past 2 years...so really it's been them in charge for 2 years

They never had a President to support them, and they didn't have enough control to actually do anything. They now have 56 seats in the Senate and last I heard still control the House of Representatives, plus have a President to support them.

The Democrats weren't really in charge the last 2 years, but they are now.

So these election results, was it because Barack Obama was so good, or George Bush was that hated?

The whole problem is that it's a "fail safe", the electoral college. They're supposed to be able to change the votes and "save" the country if they feel the populous is so stupid they're voting in someone who'll ruin our country. That sure worked, now didn't it?

lincoln didn't have the populous vote either
