The NXT Thread Is Like Ring of Honor's Bay-Bay!

Sometimes I think about the sheer amount of talent in NXT and cry - like, happy cry - for a little while. I'm not talking about Balor or Itami or whatever they're going to call Steen either - I'm talking about people who've done more in NXT than just have a reputation.

Baron Corbin seems like he could be a good shout to have the fans turn on him. There are two types of people: people like us and overgrown teenagers with lots of shit tattoos. He should get on his bike and ride back to WCW.

On an entirely different note, there needs to be a title change on TV to show that big things can still happen on the weeklies and that we don't have to wait until the specials. Bayley to defeat Charlotte in a main event would be a good candidate but that match is next week and it doesn't seem like it's happening.

It would be a fucking absolute crime to call Steen anything but Kevin fuckin' Steen.

Though, since its his real name.....I guess that wont be happening.

Tonight we move one major step closer to Sami Zayn vs. Adrian Neville in the showdown for the NXT Title as Tyson Kidd has his FINAL title shot. Other than that we also have a rematch from Takeover as Bayley gets a Women’s Title shot at Charlotte, who seems to have turned face after their first match. Let’s get to it.

The Best Thing Going Today. Fact.

It would be better if the theme had, well, a theme, instead of being two distinct parts. The Vaudevillains certainly didn't seem to be a heel team this week - they got a bigger cheer than anyone, with the possible exception of Sami Zayn.

The lack of audience enthusiasm for Bayley versus Charlotte was disappointing, though somewhat understandable - a title change was hardly going to open a weekly, was it?

Silk and butter would have to be combined to be as smooth Tyson Kidd and Adrian Neville are in the ring but I had one problem with the match: that Tyson Kidd didn't sell that powerbomb like death; that the match wasn't ended via fatality; that next week's show isn't a special memorial edition for Tyson Kidd.

Being heels doesn't mean you must have a theme that's a lesser version of the previously better one.

Regardless of what their alignment is the Vaudevillains need to start having wonderful matches with the Lucha Dragons like now, so I can see some more Kalisto.

I worry for Gotch and English. Both have flair in their characters, there's not a doubt there but neither have had a good or great match. Hell, neither have had a long match. That is a worrying thing.

Charlotte is such a Randy Orton. Just born to carry that amazing legacy.

I don't think it is a worrying thing: they've made the most of what opportunities they've been given (i.e. had very fun, short matches) so there's no reason to assume they won't continue to.

Edit: Seriously, nobody else is going to comment on how brutal that powerbomb on Tyson Kidd was and therefore how undersold it was?

I saw the first one (out of the armbar) and thought that's what you were talking about and though "That was a nice powerbomb, I see what Sam meant." But then I saw the second one, which is the one you actually meant. Holy shit that had to hurt.

We’re getting closer to the next live special and you can see the card starting to form from here. It’s pretty clear that we’re going to get Sami Zayn vs. Adrian Neville in the big showdown for the title and maybe Lucha Dragons vs. the Vaudevillains. That’s not the worst card in the world with the NXT Title match sounding excellent. Let’s get to it.

You Gotta Believe

That Hideo/Viktor match wasn't very good. Itami has much more offense than kicks I look forward to him finally showing it. Near the end though he definitely looked injured, whatever happened off the pop up to the turnbuckle had him dazed.

Titus/Zayn wasn't that bad, it's not Tyson/Zayn but what else you were expecting from Titus.

Vaudevillains new theme still sucks.

Sasha Bnaks is still fucking awesome, Becky Lynch will be huge though.

Mojo continues to exist I guess.

The first theme they had was fun and got them noticed. Now they've got a more dastardly evil theme that should take the Vaudevillains in the direction of being real villains. Should be fun to watch.

The matches might not have been the best but the stories worked very well.

I borrow Tyler Breeze's gimmick and "supermodel kick" name for my e-fed character, he borrows my e-fed character's finisher to end Mojo Rawley. I think we're even.

I don't remember them calling it the Supermodel Kick until the 2nd Takeover, so I think you've got him beat.

Hideo Itami? More like Hideo Shitami! You're all kicks and your kicks look like shit, mate. If Daniel Bryan, Adrian Neville, Kaval, Sami Zayn and even "Mr. No Natural Athletic Ability" himself CM Punk can make their kicks look good, Kicky Kicky Bang Bang has no excuse. Giving him time to improve is fine; pretending he's not been a pretty big disappointment so far isn't.

Frankly, at least if you're of the "save the big matches" school of thought, Enzo and Cass versus The Vaudevillains should have been saved for the third Takeover. One supposes there has to be someone to face The Lucha Dragons in the meantime. Poor as the new theme is, it changing as English and Gotch shook hands was nice timing.

Sasha Banks is obviously - and rightfully - being positioned as the next challenger for Charlotte's title.

Sami Zayn yet again suffered from the Worf effect, though it was genuinely surprising. Sami matches up well with tall, powerful wrestlers (see: Jack Swagger) and his match with Titus was a good example of that. It's nice to the return of the tornado DDT - it'd been a while since we'd seen that. In fact, it seemed that the helluva kick had entirely superseded it.

The road to whatever the next big show is called continues and apparently we’re now in the land of Titus O’Neil, who pinned Sami Zayn in last week’s main event. Adrian Neville made the save and is likely going to be Titus’ next opponent. It’s always hard to guess where things are going with NXT week to week so it’s likely something totally unrelated to last week. Let’s get to it.

Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy - as of this week, also known as, oh dear God, Team Thick - are always pleasant to watch, aren't they? We didn't see their entrance this week but we've seen it before and their theme is great. We know they've got great, slightly asymmetrical tights. Now we know that they're pretty damn great in the ring too. The holy trinity right there. They're like Beer Money, only wearing the Motor City Machine Guns' gear. Bring back The Mechanics - there one minute, gone the next - and the tag division is stacked.

Carmella's got a tremendous finisher and a hell of a theme. We wait for her to prove the rest.

Becky Lynch, jobber to the stars, had her best showing yet. She's shown she's of the same standard as the rest of NXT's women (i.e. a very high one).

Another delightful episode. Not a dull moment.

Team Thick! Jesus.

I'm just dying to get to the November shows. Things aren't bad but they feel repetitious and are dragging their feet till they can get to the important stuff. The problem of reading spoilers so far in advanced I guess.

NXT continues to be the show gives me the most hope in wrestling as you can see the big stories building and they’re as well put together as anything else in wrestling today. You can see Zayn vs. Neville coming and you can hear the roar of the crowd for the near falls. There’s other good stuff coming too so let’s get to it.

My Kind Of Champion

Here I am, still totally failing to sympathize with Hideo Itami, still enthralled by everything Sasha Banks does and, for whatever reason, only just realising quite how good Adrian Neville is.

Spoilers for the third Takeover card:

Career vs. Title Match
Sami Zayn vs. Adrian Neville (c)

NXT Women's Title Match
Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte (c)

NXT Tag Team Title Match
The Vaudevillians (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) vs. Lucha Dragons (Sin Cara and Kalisto) (c)

Special Tag Match
Finn Balor and Hideo Itami vs. The Ascension
That has to be the best one yet.
