Last week’s show saw Samoa Joe completely snap and destroy NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, who was stretchered out of the arena as a result. That leaves no one to stop the rampaging monster, who is still scheduled to challenge Nakamura for the title down the line. Let’s get to it.

A Look Down The Card

I want Nakamura vs. Alexander so badly. I'd love to see Cedric doing all kinds of athletic shit, and Nakamura not knowing how to deal with him.

This is an interesting time for NXT as we’re still moving closer to Toronto but it’s still too early to really know a lot of the card. We do however have a new #1 contender to the Women’s Title in Liv Morgan, who Asuka agreed to face without seeming that worried about it. We’ve also got some cruiserweights around so maybe they’ll make an appearance tonight. Let’s get to it.

Dusting Off The Classics

Apparently Ibushi is coming back over to team with Itami in the Dusty Classic. No way they go to the final as I assume that match will take place in Toronto, where the writing is clearly on the wall for the big Aries/Hideo showdown, but still, WOW.

I'd sell an organ to see Ibushi/Itami versus DIY(but I'd happily settle for seeing them face TM61 as well).

I saw we watch Hideo pull double duty. Have him beat Aries, then an irate Aries attack him which causes them to lose the semi finals to The Revival or The Authors of Pain. Feud continues, strong team building.

How do you open the show? Give us a team that never crossed your mind, but makes perfect sense.

I am gonna love this team. We all should love this team. Bask with me in the light of our glorious future winners of the Dusty Classic.

It’s time to start a tournament as we have the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic kicking off tonight. Last year’s event was a lot of fun and set up the NXT Title feud for the next several Takeovers. The finals of this year’s tournament will be taking place at Takeover: Toronto in November so let’s get to it.

am I the only one who hates the NXT audience with their ******ed shouts and chants?

An Almas heel turn is something I can get behind

No, many people complain about it. I've always seen it as an aversion to any creativity beyond "Let's go, blank-blank! Blank-blank sucks!" chants.

So we are looking at Authors of Pain vs Roode/Dillinger @ Takeover, right? Separate parts of the bracket & all, plus it being in Canada. The hometown boys taking down the evil monsters pretty much writes itself from the start.

Also, while I do love Joe destroying the world, maybe using the new guy after hyping his debut was not the best choice. Sure Joe makes a fine point by taking him down, but I cant remember anyone's debut going this way before. How do you come back like a bad ass when you were trashed in such a fashion?

Austin Aries debuted and got laid out by Baron Corbin.

Really meant a newer guy rather than established talent. I did honestly forget about the Aries thing though.

Dan Matha is a nobody. Austin Aries at least had name value.

That may just add to my point though. If Aries losing that way & it slip my mind, then obviously not a big deal. Mainly because Aries is already a badass. Matha is new & there isnt many good moments to erase the bad yet. So from now on the first thing that will spring to mind is this beatdown. You cant even build to a credible match with Joe any time soon, because nobody will believe he can get it done.

Matha already has to step out of a hole before he has even had a match on TV. Not a that I have high hopes anyway, but now more will have to be done to show people why we should care. Not a good way to book a new guy.

I feel like the Authors of Pain can't not win. It's too early for them to lose, even to the Revival.

Right but then it would be two new teams in the finals. Both undefeated. Both needing the tournament win. I just made Authors Of Pain lose to avoid them facing Sanity.

The Authors of Pain can very easily lose a tournament match without losing much of any steam. They beat Revival or Gargano/Ciampa, then in the final the team they beat interferes and costs them the tournament.

We’re still in the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic but more importantly we’re seeing more in the Samoa Joe path of rage as he tries to get his NXT Title back. In the next few weeks we should also be seeing more matches announced for the upcoming Takeover: Toronto special. Let’s get to it.
