The Mt. Rushmore of the Attitude Era

Occasional Pre-Show
Now I've seen many threads on the Mt. Rushmore of Pro Wrestling in general but I felt like making one of just simply the attitude era 1997 - 2002

Stone Cold Steve Austin- The face of the WWF during the attitude era and probly the most well known wrestler behind Hogan

Mr. McMahon- The arrival of this character truly began the attitude era

The Rock- His run with the Nation of Domination was very entertaining but his singles career took off during the attitude era and is still arguably the most popular wrestler of all time

Paul Heyman- Yes I know he ran ECW and they never got 2 be a huge company like WWE or WCW but without Heyman and ECW there would of never been an attitude era

Triple H- Trips was gold during the attitude era he was the 97 King of the Ring winner he led DX from 98-99 had memorable feuds with Mr. McMahon, Stone Cold, The Rock, Mick Foley, and Chris Jericho also the McMahon-Helmsley faction was one of the last great storylines of the era

So there's my Mt. Rushmore of the Attidude Era. There are lots of WWE guys in mine because I always felt that WCW was shit during the era, so anyways feel free to critique it and also make your own.

Last I checked there were only four faces on Mount Rushmore. When I think of the Attitude Era I think of WWF but I’ll adjust my answers for both WWF and WCW. I know ECW had a nice following, but they were still far behind the big two so I wouldn’t include anyone from ECW on my list.

Steve Austin: He may very well be the most popular superstar in WWE history and pretty much his entire run was during the Attitude Era. He’s an obvious choice for Mount Rushmore.

Vince McMahon: Austin was going to be popular anyway, but it was the arrival of the evil Mr. McMahon that launched his popularity to unprecedented heights. Austin probably wouldn’t have been as popular if McMahon wasn’t so hated.

Hulk Hogan: He’s actually overlooked during this timeframe. It’s because he was so popular during the 80s people associate him with that era. He should also be recognized for making WCW so popular in the late 90s. The nwo would not have worked without Hulk Hogan.

The Rock: His popularity actually rivaled Austin’s. I don’t think he ever reached Austin’s popularity in the arena, but he was more popular mainstream.

Honestly I think these are the only four reasonable choices. Others were very impactful during the Attitude Era as well but I just can’t see leaving any of these four off the list.

My four.... so to speak.

1. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Obvious. Most of these choices will be. He just kept pushing the bar higher and higher as a whole. Simply incredible what he did for the business. And, seems like a hard worker, which helps.

2. Vince McMahon. Two things you need; guys to get the jobs done, and the right guy to know who to put that kind of trust into. Vince, in many ways, was both. Gotta respect that.

3. The Rock. He was the glitz and glam that played well off the raw and gritty aspects of Steve Austin. Perfect balance, took promos in a new direction and to a new level in many respects. Great hand to play.

4. Shawn Michaels/Bret Hart. Aside from the whole screw job thing, both played their parts well before that. Bret, being the traditionalist that everyone hated, and Shawn being the guy to break doors down. Great feud and it boiled over at the perfect time, for the business, anyway.
