The Joss Whedon Spam thread: Buffy, Angel, The Avengers (2012 flm) and more

I.e.; make a Dewey thread without making a Dewey thread.

When Angel initially died and was turned into a vampire, I'm assuming his soul went to heaven. So when he was resouled, did he not exist in Heaven anymore? Moreso, when he was unsouled in Season 2, did his soul go to hell due to all the horrible things Angelus did?

No, otherwise all vampire victims from the show would have ended up with souls in Heaven (like Spike), but there's never any indication that they did. When they died, they ended up as vampires, and when they were killed as vampires, they were nothing, which is what Darla confirmed on Angel (as did Spike, who himself died with a soul).

Moreso, when he was unsouled in Season 2, did his soul go to hell due to all the horrible things Angelus did?

Again, I don't think a "soul" had anything to do with heaven or hell; it's one of the main things that made a vampire siring someone so fucked up, because the vamps literally caused someone's fate, even in the afterlife, if they sired someone rather than just killed them.

Firefly did get a movie, and it remains in talks for someday having another film or even for the television series to continue.

And Angel is his best show, in my opinion, which coincidentally enough is the show he was least involved with. I appreciate Joss Whedon, but I do find him annoying sometimes, plus some of his decision making has been extremely questionable.

Never watched Angel, it has been on my instant queue for awhile now though. I'm sure I'll get around to it someday.

Justin I can never ever recommend anything more highly than watching Angel right now. Right now.

Yeah right, I'll get on that just as soon as I finish up Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Community, Parks & Rec, Being Human (UK), BSG, & Friday Night Lights

I am slowly working through Buffy right now. Just started season 2. Really enjoy it so far for the most part.

Season 2 might have been the best one. Not to say that the others were a lesser quality, but so much groundwork is set up in 2.

So when Angel starts his gets his own show, how should one it and Buffy (as I know there are cross overs in various episodes of both)

Season 2 was definitely the strongest season. I'd say Season 6 was the weakest.

I thought there were a few too many stand alone episodes in Season 2, but regardless... I too think it's the best season. Here is how I'd rank the seasons of Buffy...

Season 1 - 6/10
Season 2 - 8/10
Season 3 - 7/10 (I hated Faith, otherwise this would have been higher)
Season 4 - 7/10
Season 5 - 6/10
Season 6 - 2/10
Season 7 - 5/10

Season 6 was absolutely horrible. Season 7 would have been much better without the potentials and the group turning on Buffy; I also didn't like the finale.

But, overall, it's definitely worth checking out. The show at times could be very endearing and exciting. Plus, there are some episodes that are just some of the greatest television ever done (Surprise, Innocence, Becoming, Doppelgangland, Hush, The Body, and Once More with Feeling).

Angel though, that series is fantastic all the way through, with the exception of the Jasmine arc at the end of Season 4, and some of the Kate Lockley episodes in season 1.

So when Angel starts his gets his own show, how should one it and Buffy (as I know there are cross overs in various episodes of both)

Start with Season 4 of Buffy, watch the first episode and then watch the first episode of Angel. And then just rotate.

I watched Buffy pretty much all through HS, & then off & on after I moved out. There are literally only 2 episodes I really remember standing out, I beleive one was called Hush (no one could talk) That episode may have been my favorite. The second was the series finale & I think that's only cause it was the last episode I ever saw, plus Joss made sure to go out with a bang, which is pretty much what he does when ending any series.

(I hated Faith, otherwise this would have been higher)

Oh god, I thought she was cool for like her first 2 appearances, then I wanted Kendra back. Apparently Faith was supposed to kill herself in Season 3, at least according to http://buffy.wikia.com/ (which is a great site, by the way)

Also, Angel was supposed to kill Oz in Season 2, but a lot of the fans liked his character (and then he goes "Yeah, I want to do movies. Write me out in Season 3?) so they swapped his fate with... Well, you know who.

Astonishing X-Men, one of the best runs with an X book ever. Dude knows his shit.

Series finale of Angel>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Anything Buffy ever had in it.

I beg to differ, my friend. While the series "finale" (remember, both series' are being continued in comics) of AtS was indeed awesome, my opinion holds that two episodes of BtVS season five (Buffy vs. Dracula, and The Body) contain more humor, and emotion respectively, which trumps Angel's finale.

That, and not enough Illyria in the finale....

What would happen if a Slayer was turned? Would she keep the normal Slayer strength and abilities, and have them compounded with a vamp's strength and speed and ability to look cool while smoking?

They've actually gone into that in a four part arc of one the comics. To the best of my recollection (it was couple years ago, and I've since lost the downloads of them), it played out exactly as you suggest. Well, except for the smoking. I don't recall the girl lighting up.

Besides, the only vampire to look cool while smoking, is William, and possibly Angelus.
