Welcome to the thread.

Actually HGH, from my understanding, is not as effective in stimulating muscle mass in humans. It is great for recovery, injury prevention, and decreasing of body fat. Studies surrounding its capacity to directly influence muscle mass by its own physiological components remain inconclusive.

That is very true, however (and please, correct me if I am wrong) HGH is commonly used in bodybuilding to increase size. They might not be as effective as steroids on a purely muscle building level, but they do still increase size. In Cena's case, the benefit of taking HGH over steroids is that GHG is a protein and therefore can't be detected by the standard piss test that WWE does.

This has far more to do with age, body fat, skin pigmentation, and one's capacity to retain water. Cena is not nearly as old as Batista was, so his veins have had less time to grow along with his muscles. Cena has a naturally very light skin tone, which does not allow veins to stand out like tanner folk. The picture that was posted of a "veiny" Cena shows him with a very good spray tan. Furthermore, it seems clear to me that Cena holds on to a little more body fat and water than Batista did. Cena holds on to a six-pack of abs, but there is some body fat in there. And he is not nearly as dry and hard as Batista and/or Warrior ever were.

Fair point, I don't know a lot about steroids I was just making the common assumption and evidently mistake that a lot of protruding veins were an indication of steroid use based off guys like Batista and Steiner.

After reading the arguments in the thread particularly on his knowledge of exercise physiology I'm now kind of inclining towards holding Cena at his word that he has never taken steroids.

They will, and are I think, be(ing) able to detect synthetic HGH use in most sports nowadays. Remember when Rodney Harrison tested positive?

HGH mostly makes your body function like it did when you were younger. Thus, your muscle recovery time dramatically decreases. That being said...inflammation decreases and you are able to lift harder and more frequently...increasing strength and muscle atrophy. This is mostly where it would be linked to increase in muscle size.

I'm not trying to knock him for it though, he still has my respect. Plenty of guys have used, I don't see much of a problem with it. Sure, there are health problems, but if that person chooses to accept those potential health risks, then I don't have a problem with it, especially in wrestling. It's not like steroid-use is giving them an unfair advantage as using does in other pro sports like baseball. Pro wrestling is based on smoke and mirrors, anyway.

I agree with you other than them having no effect on anyone besides the individual. Obtaining illegal drugs empowers criminals and there are mood effects involved in steroid use that effect others beyond the individual. Not the biggest issues but not irrelevant either. I do find it amusing that people cling to this idea that Cena is basically the only clean wrestler from the time around his early career. Before that he was a bodybuilder. That changes everything, none of those guys ever use performance enhancing drugs.

Cena since joining the WWE has never failed a drug test. So unless he is taking some sort of growth hormone that is not caught on the WWE's drug tests. Then I don't see why we can't take his word on not using growth hormones or Steroids.

People with degrees in exercise physiology are also guys who really know how to take steroids safely and effectively, so don't assume that Cena doesn't use based on that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cena took some enhancers, simply because I cannot fathom how a human being can train as long as he has, work that many nights a week for such a long period without significant breaks, and on top of that...not have really serious injuries.

But honestly, if he does, I don't blame the guy. He puts his body and his life through a lot of suffering to entertain all of us and make a difference in the lives of a lot of soldiers, and namely, kids. If he needs a little boost to help him do the things he does and to keep himself healthier, then by all means, brother.

And no, if he does use, that doesn't mean it's directly keeping guys like Drew McIntyre on Superstars.

1. Please provide some evidence to support your claim. Statistics would be great.

2. Caffeine and alcohol can be linked to mood effects, as well. So can exercise, sex, vocation, etc.

There are also ways to detect blood doping. However, that would be difficult just by looking at urine, which is what WWE do. They have the right to look at blood, and can ask wrestlers to take a blood test, but as a rule they don't.
