The Israeli/Palestine war

This thread should have died when A11 mentioned the moustachioed Austria genocidal megalomaniac. That's like an internet rule, right?

Or at least the conversation topic should have switched to GSB and my historical parody wrestling fed.

Are people actually mad i mentioned the Austrian born leader of the The National Socialist German Workers' Party. The man who was democratically elected i might add. A man who was so charismatic that he lead a country out of financial turmoil only to be tragically taken by suicide.

***If you leave out the whole WWII gassing of the Jews, Hitler aint really that bad***

And yes his death actually was a tragedy as it meant he couldnt stand trial for his crimes

Hitler standing trial would have been an absolute fiasco; as is virtually every such trial. Look at Goering at Nuremburg. Now multiply that fiasco by about 1000 for Hitler.

No punishment could have fit the crime. While some will have seen his suicide as a quick escape from justice, it was ultimately the best thing that could have happened.

I'd have liked to have seen him caught and interviewed by university academics for the rest of his life.

War crimes rarely are punished justly, mainly because only the loser is punished and the winner's write the history book that ignores their war crimes. Which is why I doubt hitler would've made it to trial without someone blowing his brains out even if he surrended, meaning it would be illegal by the Geneva Convention to shoot him

That is part of it but really war crimes cannot be suitably punished because in the minds of many that would require something equally horrifying. The modern legal system does not follow "an eye for an eye" or anything even remotely close to that so the higher up the criminal ladder you go, the less the punishment can fit the crime.

Having said that, if anyone had any real balls, both Hamas and Israel would be up on war crimes charges for what is happening in Gaza. Hamas for making targets out of civilians by hiding amongst them and Israel for actually firing missiles at those places despite knowing that there are scores of innocent women and children there for every single terrorist.

If Israel is so technically and militarily advanced, it should be able to do a far better job of surgically striking Hamasi targets. If they cannot, they should not be resorting to such 'precision' attacks because as the days wear on, Israel is just making itself look more and more like a bad guy rather than a victim and of course that is exactly what Hamas wanted when it first started firing missiles.

Havent you been listening to doug, Israel are merely defending themselves...

The Israeli army is merely defending itself and Hamas are a bunch of terrorist using Children as shields from missiles, which doesnt really add up but sure if thats how the US and other countries want to spin it to each their own.

For my money, that is exactly how it started.

Contrary to what some try to say, Hamas is a terrorist organisation (or includes a terrorist wing) that uses terrorist tactics and has no problem sacrificing its own fellow Gazans to achieve its aims - martyrs for the cause and all that.

But Israel is allowing its fear/hatred of such terrorists to override common sense and human decency, going beyond any retaliation that was justified, and in the process playing directly into the propaganda aims of Hamas. Make no mistake, regardless of what US TV says and the casualty lists, Israel is not winning this conflict. It might even be losing it.

It does not have to be a choice between pro-Hamas and pro-Israel. Indeed, most people who do pick between them are idiots or have an agenda.

Both sides are bad in this case.

Hey, GSB, we have a heel vs heel feud now too!

Wasn't Hamas doing whatever it was because the Israeli's were taking over a lot of their land?

that was after WWII when the jews wanted a place of their own, the UN decided because the holy book of judaism, i'm pretty sure its the torah they have 3 holy books i think, said that the land that is now known as israel was promised to them and as such a bunch of people were removed to allow for the creation of Israel.*

this causes tension which has never been resolved so its escalated to the point where the people who are more than likely doing the fighting today have lost touch with the whole origins of the war.

*One day i'm going to write a book claim its religious find about 20,000 people to support me and claim LA as my people's land and then it will be mine to rule. Your welcome to join me, i'd also like to claim my own gimmick in GSB's historical wrestling federation. Anyone who denies me is a racist xenophobe blah blah

Actually, it dates more to the end of the First World War with the British Mandate in Palestine and Transjordan, which really is a fascinating document - stuck so firmly and ultimately disastrously between "spoils of war/vae vicitis/we can do what we want as we won the war" and the more humanitarian and ethical approach that eventually prevailed as the twentieth century progressed.

The Torah is the 5 books of Moses.

Genesis through deuteronomy (probably mispelled that but oh well)

I'd do that, but I have a freshly painted wall I need to look at for six hours... ;)

How dare you? I was about to send you a ticket to our historical reinactment of when Morgan Freeman battled the prawns in the 4th century b.c. but you can just watch it on Spike.

Yes, an executive from Spike PM'd me yesterday with an offer to have TNA's spot come October.

Who wants to mod our inevitable section? Or does IDR get first dibs?

The third holiest place in Islam is Israel where a popular mosque (Al aqsa) is located. Why doesn't the UN consider that?

Also, I'm with you on that.
