The difference between iMPACT! and TNA PPV's...

The PPV's have been lackluster. But I somehow doubt it has to do with the match-up's. AJ/Kaz vs Terry/Joe was one of three matches in Victory Road that came out great. People say it had little/no buildup yet new stories came out of it. AJ and Kaz are now in Fortune. Desmond Wolfe still wants to be part of the group and is targeting Samoa Joe. Seems like it did serve a purpose. Arguing that it was a waste of a match is a moot point. Not every match every PPV has to have a perfect build to be good.

As for PPV quality matches on iMPACT!, I say no. That is not a problem. Seeing Joe/RVD for 5 minutes just tells me that if you give them 20 instead of 5 they can work it. It's a tease. It's a safe bet that if you put them together on PPV a good match will come out. It's an insurance policy. The fact that was no build to it tells you that there is potential there in the future.

The problem has been the booking of the PPV. And what goes into the finish of the match. I don't see why people need to complain about Jay Lethal making Flair tap out. It was the point of the whole storyline. But you look at Ultimate X and see Brian Kendrick trying to hook a Cobra Clutch while dangling on the ropes... WHAT FUCK WAS HE THINKING?! That was wrong. The fact that the Guns win their first TNA Tag Team titles after 3 years of being the company's most popular team should go unexplained. It's the booking. Not the matches.

I gotta agree with what Kenny said about the idea TNA has had to do three hour specials as opposed to PPV. Don't get me wrong PPV money is great but when you only do 7,500 buys like Victory Road did it seems you are actually losing money. Doing three hour live specials on tv would not only help ratings but it would give TNA the ability to do what they were doing back in the Wednesday days. Build up a good program and sinc eyou don't use PPV put it on Television and get the fans to watch. Imagine the numbers that Lethal/Flair could have done. That program is one of the coolest things TNA has done in a while and was considered by many to be one of the top two matches of the evening.

Am I saying take away PPV's? No. I think dropping the PPV's from 12 to 6 or 4 and doing a free tv special evey now and then would be the way to go right now.

At 35 dollars a pop even only 7500 buys is a little over a quarter million. I am not sure what the take of the PPV carrier is in this case. So basically the question is can they expect to make more than that on a tv special? Also how much does that special suffer from losing a third of the time to commercials?

Well you have a point there. Although if you did drop the PPV's (at least to 4 or 6 as I menioned before) and did the specials added in with producing abetter product you will not only increase ratings but PPV buys as well.

The PPV's don't feel special while they are in the impact zone. If you tuned in and the title of the show wasn't specified - or you found a clip on Youtube, you'd have no idea whether you were watching a PPV or Impact.

A PPV needs to feel different, something special. Something unique (or at the very least something that happens once a year).

If TNA weren't haemmorahing so much money on talent, I wouldn't mind so much. But in paying big bucks for "big" guys, I would expect presentation to go with it.

Even if they found one arena in Florida that was bigger that they could do each of their PPV's in, each one would feel different, more like an event. Right now, I don't get that.
