Don't get me wrong, I love South Park in any format. But the last two seasons have really hit my funny bone when it comes to continuity. We all like to see some sort of "pay-off" when it comes to TV shows and Parker and Stone have been giving us that the last few seasons. I get that there is a mid-season break and all that. But surely this could have been done sooner? Anyone else agree?
They never needed continuity. South Park comes from the 90's, when continuity generally didn't exist in comedy. Stuff like the Simpsons and Seinfeld were completely episodic, apart from minor subplots that would pop up occasionally.
But over the last decade serial shows have become huge, and South Park adapted. They took their time getting there, but the show has finally evolved, while the Simpsons continues its downward spiral of mediocrity.
With that said, I understand Parker and Stone's reluctance to change. Why mess with a winning formula that's worked for 20 odd years?
