Who would you starting 11 be?
AT this time, the England squad for the World Cup is looking quite depleted and some of the names that many would expect and like to see, will not be competing. That being said, England still have a chance of being very competitive in South Africa. I suspect that only a few teams like Brazil, Argentina and Spain will have as good a team as England will. So with that in mind, who would you choose to fill your starting 11 for the World Cup. Please only list players that are eligible to play at the time of writing. There is no point listing David Beckham because he simply wont be there. So here is mine:
For me, England are not in as bad a shape as people would like to make out. I really like Joe Hart as a keeper and I fully expect him to be the player who hits the sticks in the World Cup. He doesn't really have the experience as Robert Green does but should get the nod. Across the back, I like the look of the back line. Sure, it is not as solid as you might want and Terry could slot in if he weren't going through some heavy shit. I am still happy with the pace that is in the line up and Baines and Johnson could be really effective if, again, inexperienced.
I would also play both Gerrard and Carrick. I think Carrick is a brilliant player and has been really unlucky with injuries through the last couple of seasons. That being said, he is coming onto a game now and I would really like to see him in Africa. Walcott is a gamble for this World Cup. like he was the last but he does deserve to go. He is the best right mid England have at the moment and I would take him over Lennon every day. Wright Phillips is better than Lennon, in my opinion.
There really is no need to explain why I would put Rooney up front. Half-injured, he is still a better striker than the rest of them (with the exception of Crouchy, of course).
But who would you pick?
