Freedom?

Second to last pub quiz I was in I got into an argument as to the capital city of Kansas. He said it was Kansas City which is in Missouri.

Freedom indeed. I can't remember the answer that was given but it was between Freedom and Millenium.

Ah, I would not have known that.

Yeah Kansas city is over the two states but then became two cities. Missouri one is huge Kansas one is smaller than Newcastle. Topeka is the capital.

Why would you ever get round to watching The Wolverine? I know somebody who likes that film...no, seriously.

I think I've - ahem - 'synchronised' with the ladyperson I fancy at work; Philomena made me cry. Twice. Twice more than any other film this year.

Additionally, easily the two best lines of the year:

1. FUCKING CATHOLICS!
2. I think if Jesus were here now, he'd tip you out of that fucking wheelchair - and you wouldn't get up and walk!

Sam, let's take a moment to reflect on some of your early work fetishizing CM Punk:

Beautiful, isn't it?

That it is. That it is. Aaah.

I like to think you saw Philomenia becuse I didn't give it my standard three star rating.

I saw people waiting outside the local Game today. Tents and everything. I assume waiting for those new consoles. Somebody is going to make a killing when they mug them.

That's actually the entire reason.

I think they're waiting for Doodlejump on the 3DS.

Also, the PS4's out soon. Like, tomorrow... maybe?

Think it might be. I went in and there was line of people playing one. They tried to stand in my way when I was trying to buy Lego Marvel. Fucking geeks.

xBone's tomorrow the PS4's next week.

Zelda's tomorrow. Marios next week.

I also won a copy of Doodlejump for the 3DS.

I was a bit drunk and accompanied by a lady with whom I am besotted, but I can honestly say this in the cold light of day:

This is the best sequel-remake since Evil Dead II. It is the same exact movie, beat for beat, but better at every turn. Even the tween stench is toned down, and the ending is possibly the best of the year. You know, relatively speaking.

They left you with a tease for the first part of the final instalment. That's like them ending The Two Towers mid-way. Obviously I'll be back next year, but I'm not happy about it.

I've no doubt that Catching Fire is superior than Battle Royale II but I also have no doubt that Battle Royale on its own is still superior than both Hunger Games films and that the mute in BR is more engaging than Jennifer 'what-the-fuck-is-the-big-deal-about-her-anyway?' Lawrence.

Any reaction to Catching Fire's critical praise? I haven't seen it yet, but I've read some reviews praising Catching Fire as this generation's The Empire Strikes Back or Aliens.

Comparisons to Battle Royale are a little unwarranted. Alright, so they're both about teens fighting to the death, and they're both based on shitty teen fiction, but there are a lot of differences there. For instance, Woody Harrelson.

It's as big a leap forward as Empire Strikes Back is - both A New Hope and Return of the Jedi are a step down - but it's not as good as it, no. And Alien is better than Aliens anyway.

I think my Evil Dead comparison is better. But no, it's not as good as The Evil Dead or Evil Dead II either.

And it's definitely not "The best American sci-fi film since The Matrix."

And I went out with a real life ladyperson. That ought to have impressed you nerds more.

The Battle Royale comparison is a reflex to how wank Hunger Games was and how many people were bleating on about it, whereas the reverse is true for BR.

And because I opted to watch BR tonight over a choice of Unleashed (a film set in Glasgow with no Scots accents to be heard on the day of the helicopter/pub accident seemed kinda out of place), Willow and Warriors.

Ladyperson ey? How's that going?

Yeah, the Evil Dead comparison sounds more realistic, and Matrix comparisons? Egads. I guess we're supposed to forget the first Hunger Games wasn't that good, especially with the obsessive shaky cam stuff.

Showoff!

Ladyperson ey? How's that going?

Very well, but not as well as I'd like. I'm entirely smitten, I'm not sure she feels the same way, and this - you'd never have guessed - is an unusual situation for me. I'm normally a target for the controlling, obsessive types, you see. My new motto is "Be like Tastycles" and it's working out pretty nicely. Progress is being made.

The Matrix comparison was actually made about the first one, which is exponentially more depressing. Though maybe it's more of a comment on sci-fi films since The Matrix. Either way, stupid.

Good stuff manny. How long have you been together now?

A change of situation to the norm is bound to feel weird... and thus the relationship advice I have to offer ends. Best stick with the Tastycles plan.

Last night, my ex-girlfriend, who I work with, went out with another guy from work, not more than a fortnight after we split up, and less than a week since the last kinky business. She seemed genuinely surprised that this pissed me off.

So I went out with some other friends, and one of them kissed me. Shortly beforehand she had showed me her boobs in Pizza Express. Shortly before that she said "oh, you're not gay, that's awkward". Shortly before that she told me she was going to marry her boyfriend of several years. Later on in the evening, one of my friends showed another of my friends his penis. She did not appreciate that.

Be more like Tastycles.

See, this is eerily reminiscent of my recent adventures. Except the Pizza Express part, that's just odd. We went straight to the pub.
