Sam's Thread of Chattin' w/ Jake & Other Robust Subjects

I was kinder than I expected:

Needed to be tighter and more focused. A film based on a rivalry should make me feel invested in the rivalry. There's two or three scenes where they passively aggressively trash talk... and I just didn't feel it at all. And this is from a guy who likes Formula One. The third act is solid, despite what comes before.

A waste of £9.40 (Jesus Christ!) but not a Thursday evening.

I can understand your viewpoint. When I was watching it I really enjoyed it but half an hour afterwards I wondered how much I would enjoy it in the future.

I think my man-crush on Bruhl should see me through a few more viewings of it and enough to make me feel like I got my money's worth (£13).

The rivalry scenes were fine for me; Hunt was a proper bastard and Lauda honed in on Hunt's insecurities just like Hunt was an all-out performer and Lauda was meticulous in his preparation and mind-set.

Just got back from Grand Budapest Hotel. I thought it was excellent. Is it in theaters over on your side of the world yet?

It came out last week but I've not had the chance to see it. Going Tuesday.

Glad to here it. Anderson hasn't let me down yet.

I hear there are tricky cinema goings-ons to get the film to show correctly. Hope my guys don't mess it up.

Unfortunately I'm unable to make a Nymphomaniac: Part 1 & 2 screening on Saturday which surely would've stopped my indifference to the films of 2014.

Nymphomaniac: Part 1 is hilarious. Part 2, less so.

Need For Speed is about cars going really fast and on that level it is perfectly entertaining.

I clearly have a crush on Liam Neeson.

Stripped of everything that makes him annoying in other films. He's endearing. Only one problem...he butchers his English accent.

Comfortably in the 50% of Wes Anderson films that I don't hate (along with Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou). Quite predictably, Ralph Fiennes carries the whole thing on his shoulders. There's just no way to hear that man say fuck and not find it funny.

Captain America tonight. Are you excited? I'm excited.

Saw the Cap'n last night. Decent enough but suffers the post Avengers curse of, "well if the danger to SO many people is so imminent, where are the other dudes?"

There are 2 mini scenes in the credits - the first is good, the one at the very end is shite.

Post-Avengers fatigue set in for me a while ago now.

I really can't see how this is an issue in this one. The whole movie takes place over what, three days? Only four people know of the big evil plot and
the only crew with the ability to contact the avengers (sheild) are half-ways in on it
. Stark wouldn't show up for those reasons mentioned (namely not knowing anything was going on until too late), Thor lives in another universe, Hulk has that whole not wanting to turn into a giant killing machine problem and Hawkeye wouldn't be much use.

Had no idea Johansson was pregnant though, is that why her hair was funny?

Hmm, but Stark doesn't seem like the kind of fella that, having hacked SHIELD's files once, would stop doing it again. The Thor and Hulk points I'll give you but Hawkeye seemed like he was SHIELD's resident Avenger along with the red head. I can't remember the timeline but I got the impression it was longer than 3 days.

Apparently she's pregnant during the filming of Age of Ultron rather than this so the hair flaw is down to the shabby make-up department, who also made the old woman look very rubbery.
