Sam, Coco, Barbosa, NorCal, and J-Glass discuss esoteric shows

What is disappointing is that Matthew McConaughey wont be back for season 2. So not only does that suck because his character is one of the better ones on television- it tosses up a few questions as to how this season will end up. I hope he changes his mind though because Rust Cohle is a great character.

It's an anthology series. There will be a different story and different set of characters each season. He was never coming back.

I knew it was going to be different stories, but thought it was like American Horror Story in a way- different themes same actors.

Oh well. One more episode to go then. Now it seems the 'green ears' part makes some more sense. Cant wait to see what happens now.

Damn, True Detective is pretty awesome. Premise wise, it may not be the most original show ever but it is simple stuff done really well. Rust Cohle may be my favorite character in a long time. I'm just 4 episodes in but I just may be able to get upto 7 before Monday.

The last 10-15 minutes of Episode 4 was pretty epic.

Also, I may be late on this as well but I think that Homeland was brilliant this season. I just caught up with the last 5 episodes this past week and I really loved it. Once they resolved Dana's storyline, the show became awesome once again. The finale, in particular was intense, really high on tension and drama. In the end, though, I guess I am a bit disappointed that nobody gave a fuck about Brody except Carrie but that should have been expected.

It felt more like a series finale, though. I just cannot see what else is left for them to resolve from the original plot.

I felt a little ambivalent after House Of Cards season one.

After finishing the second season, I now know without a doubt that the show is terrible.

I think I have seen up to episode 6 of the first season of House of Cards and it did not really appeal to me. That is partly because I am not very interested in politics in the first place. Furthermore, I just thought that Frank Underwood was able to resolve his problems rather easily almost as if he was way above everybody else's league. It got boring pretty fast.

Hey Coco, did you catch the Hannibal season premiere? The opening fight scene was pretty awesome as was the human collage of bodies at the end. Bryan Fuller has one sick imagination!!!!

I'm cool with politics. I'm midway through the second season of West Wing right now and I'm absolutely loving it. It's House Of Cards specifically which doesn't appeal to me.

Frank's overarching plan, if there was really one, is convoluted at best, moronic at worst. The Underwoods are icy, unfeeling sociopaths who make for boring lead characters, even in what many feel is an age of anti-heroes. I kept on because Kevin Spacey and David Fincher's names elicit great expectations. After giving them two seasons, and considering how wildly nonsensical the ending of season two was, I'm comfortable in saying that this show has failed to live up to the promise of the talent working on it.

And yes, Rattlesnake. I'm caught up on the season opener of Hannibal.

As usual, it's the show's colourful portrayals of dead bodies, food, and Will's madness that elevate the proceedings.

The muted tone to Will's memory of Hannibal feeding him the ear was my favourite bit of the episode.

Rectify's second season has a première date!

Hopefully they get those episodes on Netflix ASAP just like they did last year.

Part of me wishes one of them would have at least died, but overall I was pleased with the finale, hope the next pair of leads are just as good, hopefully even better.

I've never understood why someone would want a "good" character to die.

Yeah, I thought it was much more satisfying for Rust to find peace spiritually then for him to have a "tragic" death. I loved it.

Although I must admit that I was one of those knuckleheads who thought for sure Audrey was going to play a bigger picture in last night's finale. But, I guess it was all a red herring. I was a tad bit disappointed about that at first, but got over it quickly.

All in all, an AWESOME season of television. One of the best ever as far as I'm concerned.

Now, bring on Game of Thrones and Mad Men.

Second season of Orphan Black next month as well.

Anyone else in the Esoteric Television Club into that one?

Also, Veronica Mars - worth my time?
