Rear Naked Bloke
Round 1, Mexico:
The Rockers - Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty
vs.
Goldust and Jeff Jarrett

No spam and no flaming.

Mexico rules are identical to WWE rules except:
- Count-outs go up to twenty, not ten
- Piledrivers are illegal (I shit you not)
- Removing your opponent's mask (if he wears one) results in a DQ
- Every match is two out of three falls

You've got to admit, Shattered Dreams is one of those moves that would actually fucking work.

Yeah, this one goes to The Rockers, and it's not even really close. Honestly I'm a huge HBK mark but I've always thought the Rockers had become a bit overrated in the years since their break up. Don't get me wrong, they were great, but they weren't the best tag team in the WWF at any time during their existence.

They still easily get my vote over Jarrett and Goldust though. I'm a fan of both men's in-ring work, but not enough to give them a vote over a team like The Rockers.

Going with the Chosen Ones. Jarrett and Goldust are both great workers, while The Rockers featured an HBK before he was HBK, and some guy called Marty. Sure, they were a proper tag team, but they weren't as great as others of their era and the Chosen Ones could take them.

Goldust is a good character and worker, Jarrett started his own company which is now the number 2 company in America. They are both veterans and good at what they do, while the Rockers were novices and there was a huge weak link in Jannetty. Sure, Michaels later became HBK, but we need to remember that we're talking about Rockers-era Michaels, who is way different from the HBK we know and love.

Gossssh I wanna put Goldust through, but my hate for Jeff Jarrett will not let me vote for them. But putting my bias aside, I still think the Rockers would win this. I am in no ways a Rockers' fan. Frankly I find them to be vastly overrated. But they were a good team in the days of tag team wrestling's glory. I just can't see JarrettDust getting along. I think Jarrett would get pretty "badass" and start yelling and shit at Goldy, and Goldust won't take it and he'll smash Jarrett's stupid guitar over his head and the Rockers capitalize and win.

People forget how good Marty actually was. he won the IC Title and two tag titles. That's far better of a career than most wrestlers ever have. This goes to the ROckers though. Goldust and Jarrett are good wrestlers, but I could easily see them fighting each other before the match was over, and if it was in WCW then it would start a singles match during the tag match complete with referee, but I digress. The Rockers work very well together, provided they're not near a barber shop, and shouldn't have any trouble stopping these two old southern boys.

The Rockers

Not the best tag team, but still decent. At the time, Marty was the star in my mind (I also thought London was the star of of his team (With Brian Kendrick), but Shawn was going to be pushed, which led to him now. But at the time, they were a decent tag team, competing with The Hart Foundation, Demolition, and some other good teams.

As for the other team, the Silver and Gold ones, I loathe Golddust, and think he is useless. At the same time, I am a fan of Jarrett, he gets too much hate. But I cannot give them this vote here.

Gotta vote The Rockers, love me abit of them, not the best tag team ever but i think would go over Jarret and Goldust. Even though i think Jarret was mediocre at best and would bow down to the Rockers.

Isn't it obvious? The Rockers have got to win.

These guys were a tag team for over 2 years in the WWF & a lot longer in the indy circuit. Between the two, the held around 6 tag team championships from various promotions. They have faced off against the greatest tag teams of the era like the Hart Foundation coming out on top at times. They have great chemistry together, know how each other & the opponents work whilst putting on a great match. The moves HBK/Jannetty are able to do outshine the talents of both the Dust & the Guitar.

If only Goldust had a better tag team partner than Jeff Jarrett. He has not been very successful in the wrestling world & is overrated for his abilities. I don't see Goldust carrying this match as it is two out of three falls.

The Rockers, hands down.

The Rockers win this one. Although Michaels wasn't the HBK he became when he was with the Rockers they were still a popular and decent tag team. Jarret and Goldust wouldn't win this, ever really.

Rockers FTW.

I love the pairing of Goldust and Jeff Jarrett. In my book, both of these guys are two of the most underrated wrestlers of all time. The Goldust character, in my opinion, is one of the most entertaining, complexed characters in the history of professional wrestling. And Jeff Jarrett, well I've explained plenty of times on this forum how greatly unappreciated he is by fans, but the fact of the matter is... the guy has countless classic matches under his belt and ALWAYS gives the fans their money's worth whenever he headlines a show. Also, he gets heat as good as anyone in the business has these past ten years. Jarrett is an incredible professional wrestler.

That said, this is not a real team, and they're facing off against one of the most exciting teams I've ever watched, and a personal favorite of mine. So, yeah... I have to give my vote to The Rockers. I'll go more in depth with my love for them when they're up against a tougher opponent.

OK...Look, I know that Shawn and Marty never won a title together, but they're still in a tie for my favorite tag team ever, so they get the vote. It goes deeper than that though. I'm a big Goldust fan as well, but Jarrett makes me instantly vote for the other guys. I hate him that much.

Even if I left emotions out of this, there's no way that JJ and Goldust can keep up with the speed and athleticism of the Rockers, and if they try and dirty tricks, they'd get DQ'd. Easy win for the good guys...

Should be a pretty easy win for The Rockers here. Not ringing up their ring prowess, with their awesome high flying skills and double team maneuvers, we still have an immensely popular team that beat the current champions, The Hart Foundation, in a 2 out of 3 falls match for the WWF Championship.

Funny that we're in Mexico and that stipulation comes up. Yeah, I fucking know, the rope broke, but they still won, regardless of whether the match was aired or not.

I think because the Rockers were both good wrestlers, and because they're basically the foundation upon which the Hardys and Edge and Christian were built, they are looked back upon as an awesome team. History tells me otherwise, I'm afraid. A couple of decent runs in AWA doesn't make you particularly successful.

Their position in WWF was firmly asjobbers to the stars. They appeared on just about every single episode of Superstars and beat a team that almost always consisted of Barry Horrowitz or the Brooklyn Brawler. As soon as they faced a proper team, be it LOD, the Harts, the Nasty Boys or Demolition, they got creamed.

Both Jarrett and Goldust are decorated singles competitors and both are former tag team champions, something that the Rockers never were together. Goldust and Jarrett have always been, until recently, upper midcarders, while the Rockers were nothing but lower carders throughout their tagging career.

I can already see that this tournament will be completely tarnished by what people did after they were in unsuccessful tag teams. The Rockers are the Cryme Tyme of the 1980s at best.

The Rockers may not have won a lot of titles or had a ton of success as a tag team, but they sure were fun to watch. Their work with the RNRE is tag team wrestling at it's finest. You have a solid team of Marty Jannety and HBK sans chronic back problems. I think that is one hell of a team.

Goldust is pretty much just a comedy jobber 4 lyfe (AKA Santino). He's won some titles here and there, but he was far from great.

As for Jeff Jarrett, fuck him. He is easily my least favorite wrestler of all time, and it's not really even close. He didn't really do anything much memorable until he booked himself to win a bunch of world titles.

Therefore, I'm going with the Rockers.

I’m going to have to go with the established team here. It’s always an advantage to already know your partner and everything about them in the ring. It’s even more of an advantage to have experience with that partner. I can't see Jeff and Goldust pulling it out against the Tag Team Specialists.

The Rockers, and it's not even close. They were a great tag team. Yes, they never won the belts, so if you like to think that's the way to establish greatness, by all means vote for the other 2. But the Rockers were the team who revolutionised the tag division in the WWE. If you watch the 'greats' from recently, you'll see a huge connection between them. The Hardys, Edge and Christian. All of them have similarities with a team who were very forward for their time. The Rockers aren't the greatest team of all time, but they are the most underrated.

I love the Rockers and they definitely get my vote here, but I think everyone needs to slow there role when it comes to saying they revolutionized tag team wrestling. They weren't the first team to use the high flying style, nor the best team to do it. From the move set, to the look, to even the team name, the Rockers are basically an exact copy of the Rock n Roll Express.
