Rey Mysterio wins World Heavyweight championship

What a horrible, horrible decision on the part of the WWE.

Sure, I have my biasses and it's very true that I hate Rey Mysterio but even when I think about it in a booking manner, it makes no sense whatsoever. You see,, Mysterio is little more than a one trick pony. Every promo you hear from him will include "How big his heart is", "How many times he has been the underdog" or "How he has defied the odds before"... Words cannot define how much Rey Mysterio bores me. Every single promo that you will hear from this point on will include those that are listed and I am pretty sure that he wont be the Champion for that much longer.

Rey Mysterio is not a good Champion like Sheamus is. Rey Mysterio is a small guy and whilst I don't mind that, it takes away from the Championship for him to be holding it. If Sheamus is defeated clean by a superstar for the Championship, that superstar is likely to get a really good rub from it. However, if they beat Mysterio, well, no big deal really. I can only imagine that they are going to have him feud with Swagger first because of his rematch clause. Then he will likely feud with The Big Show.

I don't mean to be so negative about this but truly, Rey Mysterio's first reign was terrible and I am not very happy that I need to sit through it all again.

This. I can't suspend my disbelief and buy that a guy who random guy from the audience could beat up is capable of beating HEAVYWEIGHTS. First time he was champ he looked completely ineffectual on a weekly basis, which was what should happen when taking on guys he's at a severe size disadvantage against. I'm supposed to buy that Rey Mysterio won a match that had Big Show in it? I'm supposed to buy that Rey Mysterio could beat Big Show in a title defense? Or Kane? Right. :suspic:

And I think the 619 is ridiculous. You never see anyone in that position in other matches, but against Rey Mysterio, suddenly people inexplicably find themselves in position for the 619. :suspic: It's too contrived for me. I can't buy Rey Mysterio coming to someone's rescue and heels actually looking scared of him or running away from him, I can't buy someone who I substantially outweigh and am over a foot taller than being able to beat freaking heavyweight professional wrestlers, I just don't understand all the Rey Mysterio love at all. Guess it's the underdog appeal. "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." Whatever. This is carrying that cliché to an absurd extent.

I'm pissed. I honestly think it was a dumb move specifically because WHC could put over so many people there. Swagger needed to drop it because he was horrible as WHC, Big Show could benefit as the fresh new face and Punk could benefit GREATLY as the leader of the SES. However, I do not have anything against Rey, the only thing I find is that Rey is over as he is. He doesn't need WHC to be considered the top draw. He has been in the ring with the best and beaten the best. That says something. Not mention he is one of the original and well-known high flyers in the WWE. His credibility won't be tarnished while other people could benefit off of it. That's my only complaint.

What a miserable lot internet folk are. Lets straighten this, in short order.

Rey is one of the top 5 most over guys in the company, one of the top 2 or 3 in merch sales, he never puts on a bad match, is good on the stic, and there are no other faces to feud with for a heel champion.

Perfectly good, logical choice for a title run, and a great suprise. Get over it, to say otherwise makes you look like an over-analytical idiot.

yeah, Pro Wrestling is Kayfabe, currently, they are in the PG Era, and it is aimed at the kiddies and who is over with the kiddies, you guessed it, mysterio.
But, I am quite annoyed, but this can only be better than the last reign, but I don't think it is going to be a very long title reign.

I don't see why are people complaining that Mysterio is to small to win the WHC when guys like Michaels, Guerrero, Jericho. Punk, Jeff Hardy, are guys you would not classify as Heavyweights themselves.

Also based on the title of the thread the main complaint is Mysterio winning the Heavyweight Title is absurd. Which is I don't get why people didn't complain why Mysterio won the IC Title then since it's formally known as the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship.

The picking of nits, if I ever saw it. This is a situation were lives need to be gotten.

Its a fucking fake title in a fake "sport".....Chris Jericho won it, where was your mouth then? Oh yea, nowhere.

Will there now be a super heavyweight title as well? THis isn't the damn MMA or boxing. Its pro wrestling. Plenty of smaller guys have won the title, plenty more will. It has nothing to do with the "heavyweight" class, it has to do with many people's blind and utterly unfathomable and illogical hatred of anything involving Rey Mysterio.

Word. Mastrio has been in the main-event scene for years, and he's one of WWE's top draws. It's completely logical to put the belt on him, particularly because it's going to drive the sale of toy WHC belts through the ROOF. You'll see them everywhere in the arenas.

So...IC. Would it be acceptable for him to win the WWE Title?

Woah, I can't believe how many people hate Rey as Champ!

I actually don't mind him as the Champion, If the rumours are true and he is gonna be leaving soon, Why shouldn't he have the title?
He's given a lot to the company and his first run was really out of respect to Eddie, so I think he is due a run with the Gold for his hard work. I mean if people like Regal and Kane aren't going to get a run with a title, I'm glad Rey is.

Also you can't forget the fact that Smackdown is overpopulated with heels at the moment and guys like Drew McIntyre who are ready to hit the top are only going to benefit from a rub from World Champ Rey.

But when I am glad that Rey won the title, I'm also annoyed that Swagger lost it, I thought he was doing a good job.

Co-sign, I was marking out like crazy when ReyRey won on sunday. I think the guy weight should have nothing to do with it when guys like Chris Benoit, Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho CM Punk, Jeff Hardy held the title. I find that to be quite hypocritical. Plus the guy has paid his dues and is a massive draw right now. Hope he gets a reign or two after this one is over. People it's entertainment damnit.

Wrasslin is FAKE. Can't you understand this? Weight divisions in a FAKE sport is nonsense, stupid, and just plain ******ed. How can you possibly want ralism in a fake sport when we have The Undertaker doing the silly stuff he does every week. The current Taker storyline is cheesy and stupid, but it's an entertainment show, not a sport. Mysterio is by far the biggest draw on Smackdown. He is the most important superstar on Smackdown (more important than the Undertaker, whether you want to admit it or not... the Hispanic market has become a top priority for the WWE). It's about damn time Mysterio got a second title reign. This isn't a real sport, this is the (fake) wrasslin business.

There's an easy fix to all of this, bring back the cruiserweight title. With guys like Rey, Evan Bourne, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Tyson Kidd, Cody Rhodes(let's face it, he's a cruiserweight), Justin Gabriel, and Kaval, there are a lot of great matches to be had. I want to throw CM Punk in that lot but, despite his size, his persona and the way he carries himself screams seems to give him a lotta "weight" if you smell what I'm cooking. This way, Rey can have a title and with the matches that this division can have potentially, it'll quickly become a prestigious title.

I'm not fussed about the fact that he's small, but why would i believe that he's going to keep that belt for longer than his first defence? Why would i believe that the smallest guy in the company isn't going to get squashed in under 5 minutes the second he has to have a 1 on 1 match with say Cena or Orton?

He's the sort of champion that could only ever win via a fluke, and you'd never believe he'd have a chance at retaining the belt against anyone other than Jericho, Punk and Swagger or a new comer to the ME scene.

If Rey's first title defence is against Swagger, i could believe Rey would beat him, because Swagger's been booked to look like a chump.

If Rey's first title defence was against Punk, then i could believe that Rey could retain, because he beat him several times in the last 4 months alone.

If his first defence was against Jericho then again, they've had a fued recently where they were both shown to be of equal ability and traded wins/losses.

If his first defence was against say Drew, i could believe he'd beat Drew because Drew's still fairly new in town and it's (arguably) a little early to put the belt on him.

But if he's defending against Taker or Show, i'd expect Show to knock his ass out in 10 seconds, or Taker to hit a chokeslam, Last Ride and Tombstone in quick succession and be walking out with the belt before most fans had sat down following the entrances.

I simply cannot suspend my belief to that level where i accept that a man 1/3 of the size of everyone else is going to be able to compete at their level, when most of them are a LOT younger than him and have had far less injuries in their careers.

I'm personally very disappointed with Mysterio winning the belt. For me Phoenix's sig says it all, I don't quite know why, but in the last year or so I've come to really hate Mysterio and I think it's because everything he does now is centered around the children, and I understand, the kids need a guy to look up to, but almost everything he does ties into that.

I was really pulling for Punk to win the championship so here's to hoping he gets the belt soon.

I hope this isn't a lengthy reign either, because as many people have voiced, most of the Smackdown roster is larger then Mysterio, and I can no longer suspend my belief to think that he could beat them, especially guys like Show, Taker, and possibly Kane.

I think this is actually a good move by the wwe. Raw is continually favoured over smackdown, it's just how it goes, and in my opinion the big four on raw (cena, orton, edge, sheamus) are boring me now.

Now, I can't see rey holding onto this belt for long, but I'd give him till summerslam, or maybe even NOC or HIAC. Just something to get him cemented as the top face again. A loss to Kane at one of these ppvs could lead to a good title run and hopefully a final taker/kane fued culminating at wrestlemania. I hope wwe is doing something along these lines.

As for right now, I can see a swagger/mysterio rivalry working for a bit, maybe a match at MITB and summerslam. I can see kane winning the smackdown money in the bank and cashing it in after one of rey's title defences.

Either way, I enjoy watching smackdown a lot more than raw now. I can't see Sheamus holding the title for long, and the only people I'd be bothered about seeing as champion are Jericho or the Miz. One thing I can see though is a cross brand rivalry of Sheamus/Mysterio? Never gonna happen, but it could work?

Reading spoilers prior to the event it said posibly Rey or Punk would be coming out as new champions..but I felt it would go to Punk..but then again anything can happen...Its kidna funny..i was watching it and when he hit the 619 on Swagger..and went fort the pin..the crowd reaction was dead...but as soon as the bell rang...they went crazy...i think it might have been the fact that these people didn't expect rey to win another world champion...

Im happy for the little man...he deserves this 2nd title run...especially since he was supposed to be taking time off right about now...

I gotta say i dont care too much about Rey winning the title.
Because i dont see him having it long! like a few of you have mentioned...
He's just too small to actually be a threat the the bigger main event guys!

I see him having a month or 2 reign... Defending agains the likes of (Swagger, Punk) But as a bigger man comes along (i know Swagger and Punk are both bigger but they are also still somewhat Green in the Main Event) Like big show or Kane or Undertaker i really cant see Rey retaining.

I for one believe Kane is going to be the one that takes the belt from Rey and i also believe Kane is going to be the one that attacked taker in the first place and i HOPE we are going to see a Hell in a Cell match between the 2 at the HIAC pay per view!

Those are my thoughts

im disgusted rey won, his gimmick of over coming his size and crap like that is so played out, and his matches are sickening due to him being limited, his matches are a couple of spots and thats it.

So i started this thread a few days ago, but this was the first time i actually went through what everyone was saying about Mysterio and his title win. It bugs me when people say that when Mysterio is in a match with a big man, it will suck or wont be believable. One person said that as soon as Rey gets in a match with taker, he will get squashed and lose his title very quickly.

DID THE HATERS WATCH THE ROYAL RUMBLE??
Rey Mysterio vs the Undertaker for the World Heavyweight title was one of the better title matches I can remember in recent memory. And it wasnt a squash match. It was a competitive back and forth match. Even though Mysterio lost, there were still the moments where I actually thought they might give him the title that night.

So my point is Rey can have good matches with the bigger guys, as long the big man is good to work with. Hell people complain about his matches with kane, and even those werent half bad.

I Don't mind Rey as champ,he isn't actually an underdog you know because he wins almost every match he has so how the hell is he an underdog. He has made a career of beating Big Show,Kane etc.I wanna see if his reign is better than his horrible 2006 reign

(would have prefered Big Show to win it though)

Now that Rey is the WHC again, lets hope he isn't poorly booked like last time. He's overcome all the big guys before so hopefully he'll look stronger this time. He's over with the kids and I guess that's why us older guys don't like him or believe in him other than his smaller stature. He's slowed down a lot in the ring and he's not as agile, but he needs some more technical moves then instead of body splashes if he's going to continue his transition to the larger opponents.

I think if booked right, Mysterio will be a nice champion for the summer, but after Undertaker returns, either put the gold on him or built Kofi/Matt/Christian up to take the gold off of him.
