Umaga (SAM) vs Roddy Piper (UK)

This is a first round Falls Count Anywhere Match in the 2010 Wrestlezolympics. There are no disqualifications and no count-outs. The match may go anywhere in the arena. The first man to score a fall via pin or submission will win the match and advance to the semi-finals.

The match will open for discussion on Tuesday, January 26th, and voting will begin on Wednesday, January 27th. This is a non-spam thread, so if you decide to post, you must provide reasons why you are backing a particular wrestler. You may vote without posting.

A really great match up that I would love to see. These two guys were absolutely wild, and Roddy Piper's behaviour could be just as savage as the Samoan Bulldozers. Umaga had a history of ripping through opponents, and the stipulations allowing him to do whatever he wants would benefit him greatly. But looking back on his history in gimmick matches, from Last Man Standing with Cena at the Royal Rumble to a Falls Count Anywhere match with Jeff Hardy at ONS, he doesn't actually have a great history of success, and often, his opponent will overcome Umaga.

When you have someone like Roddy Piper, who has been in and won some of the greatest brawls you'll see period, and you have a recipe for destruction. One of my favourite Piper matches, Bad News Brown and him at WM6, we saw an insane brawl that ended in double count out. Without count out on the table and the entire arena as his playground, we could see what Piper could really accomplish, with anything he could get his hands on from Coconuts to Bananas at his disposal.

And who could forget that masterpiece of Goldust vs Piper at WMXII?

In any case, Piper gets my vote.

Part of what made Umaga so great was the fact that he was borderline indestructible. Piper can, and will, bring a fight to Umaga but there was no one with comparable size and speed in one package in his day. Piper will keep this closer then you would think, but the power, speed, and resilience of Umaga will be too much for Piper to handle.

The previous posts are right on the money. This is a classic match up that would see some of the most vicious exchanges seen outside a wrestling ring. Many people who had not seen Piper in his prime would think this would be an easy squash for Umaga but this was Pipers type of match. Piper in his prime lost was beaten very few times, if you don't count disqualifications as losses (lol). I see this one as a surprisingly close, great match up but I'm going to go with Umaga for the win due to shear power and endurance. Piper hits him with the kitchen sink but when Umaga falls on him he is unable to kick out due to fatigue from wailing on him for so long.

Honestly, this match is so disgustingly underrated. If it actually happened, with Roddy and Umage both being in their primes, I guarantee it would be a match fit for Wrestlemania. I'd almost rather see this match than the original HBK vs. Undertaker match.

This could possibly be the best, most dead-on, accurate description of my personal thinking in this tournament so far. Thriller hit every single point that I feel should be important in this matchup.

-Roddy's crazy, but Umaga's crazier
-Roddy's tough, but Umaga's tougher
-Roddy can fight, but Umage can pulverize
-Roddy's agile, but Umaga's size + his agility makes him overwhelming

Like Thriller said, Piper's gonna bring it... but he won't be able to outlast the Samoan Bulldozer where anything goes and pinfalls can happen anywhere.

Piper is one crazy mofo. A falls count anywhere fits his style. He would completely bring it to Umaga. But he won't win. Umaga can match Piper's craziness, Umaga can match Piper's intensity. Umaga is a mad men. Like D-Man said this match would be criminally underrated and worthy of one of the big 4 PPV. Love Hot Rod and I can see anyone making a point to vote for him, but I'm giving the Samoan Bulldozer this one.

It's Umaga/

Piper would fight with anyoine, but his comedy offense and fingerpokes aren't going to do much good here. The only prayer he has is a rollup or something like that and I don't see it happening. It should be Umaga but I'd think Piper will win because of his name.

Definitely Umaga even though his gimmic history is extremely bad. Umaga can do most things except well dirty tactics then Roddy. Roddy could fight Umaga could bulldoze. Roddy could cheat it's not cheating in a NO DQ match. Umaga get's my vote

Roddy Piper is as tough as they come in this business, but he'd get killed in this match. Umaga is too big and downright ruthless for Piper to hang in there with him. The Hot Rod would put up a great fight, no doubt, but at the end of the day, in a match like this, he just doesn't stand a chance against a monster like Umaga. We saw what Cena had to do to beat Umaga in a similar match, but Piper just doesn't have the power, and brains to find a way to beat Umaga in similar fashion.

Winner: Umaga.

Piper's best hope in the match would be to just let it all hang out. To throw caution to the wind and go batshit crazy and let instinct take over. Otherwise, he'd wind up getting his ass handed to him quick. Piper was a wild man and he'd have to pull out all the stops against Umaga to have a chance of winning in this type of situation.

Umaga played the wild, savage Samoan pretty well and it did work quite well for a while. Umaga was a big, strong and pretty athletic 350 pound man and Piper is someone that probably wouldn't have been used to that back in his day. Most guys Umaga's size back in Piper's prime would have been slow, out of shape and could barely move around the ring without breaking into a sweat. Umaga would be savage and downright brutal in the match. He'd have no probably unleashing the beast all over Piper.

In the end, I think Piper would make a pretty good showing for himself but Umaga would be too much for him. I simply think that Umaga would be able to absorb the Piper's punishment better than Piper would be able to absorb his.

I think Roddy Piper's severely overrated anyway, and to be honest, a dead Umaga would give Roddy Piper fits in this match. Umaga's known for having a hard head, so a coconut shot to the head won't work. Neither will punching the man. It'll just piss Umaga off even more.

Umaga wins this with brute force.

I just shat a brick. I'm loving these matches.

Roddy Piper, a man who made a living in this type of environment, is one crazy bastard who has the cajones to take on anyone and give them a run for their money. You could tell him to go pick a fight with a specially trained assassin empty handed and he'd do it. I'm pretty sure Robot Chicken alluded to that fact with the Hulk Hogan episode... but anywho, Umaga is an unstoppable force in this area who will completely crush anyone.

Piper has the ability to resort to anything for a victory. Umaga doesn't have the concept of morality and will just beat you down until you won't move, so Umaga will eventually beat the seasoned veteran in a hard-fought victory.

Like Thriller said, Piper's gonna bring it... but he won't be able to outlast the Samoan Bulldozer where anything goes and pinfalls can happen anywhere.

Outlast the Samoan Bulldozer? Jeff Hardy did. In the exact same match. Piper has been brawling all of his life, and getting the crap kicked out of him is nothing new. Anyone who thinks Piper won't do absolutely anything to win is crazy. That includes a whisper in the wind off a production truck onto Umaga (onto a soft mat).

Umaga always used to get pinned after being on the receiving end of whimsical Jeff Hardy moves, so all this talk of him being indestructible seems a little foolish. Umaga was at his best in matches without stipulations, see April 2006-January 2007, give his opponent the oppertunity to use a weapon and Umaga would usually looked on bemused before falling to whatever his opponent felt like hitting him with, see almost any gimmick match from January 2007-May 2009.

As a savage I can only assume he's not aware of that invention called, the chair. Although that asks another question, what did he sit on when he was having his skin inked?

So Umaga's indestructible is he? As far as I can remember, he had three gimmick matches in the WWE - against Punk, Cena and Jeff Hardy and he lost them all. Now, to me, that looks anything but indestructible. When you think about Piper, don't think about the man in his 60s doing eye pokes, think about the best brawler that wrestling has ever seen. Piper was a mentalist, and he would be able to win this match. Umaga may be able to beat Piper in a standard match, but history has taught us that people he beats in standard matches, he loses to in gimmick matches. Piper would win this match.

What the fuck, why is Umaga winning this? He is hardly a footnote against one of the dirtiest men in wrestling. It's pretty muck omer if the men fight backstage to the tropical fruit buffet, as Roddy would use a coconut on Umaga, a fruit that kills 48829 Samoans a year.

This match would be great. An all out brawl with Piper getting bum loved(Not litterally) by Umaga. But just when you think you have the all awnsers, he changes the questions. It becomes a case of "What the hell does Umaga have to do to keep this guy down" and that will become his own downfall. Piper is a smart guy and could easily lead Umaga backstage into a trap of some kind. And Umaga is just stupid enough to fall for it. A beaten and bloody, but smart Roddy Piper gets the 3 count here.

Are you people mental? 'Umanga' started his wrestling career as a fat gangsta if i remember correctly, Piper on the other hand is a wiley vertran, he's beaten the best, Umaga in situations like this more often than not lost, he's too big and stupid to beat a guy like piper in a match like this

Dude, back Piper people. He's the crazy Scottish fucker who once smashed a legit beer bottle on his own head to induce bleeding during a promo. He's insane. Umaga is tough, and Umaga has a killer instinct, but it's guys like Piper who made that shit happen in the 70's Men like Piper, Funk, and Foley carry the flag for matches like "Falls Count Anywhere."

Plus, Umaga does have a history of losing every big gimmick match he's in, whereas Piper is a known performer.

Vote for Piper, please.

I think if that it was a regular match, Umaga would flatten Roddy. But the fact it's Falls Count Anywhere means the match could end up being more of a Brawl, which lessens the gap between the two. I'd have to go for Umaga, just because in my opinion, his stamina and strength would overall prevail.

This has to be Piper. Umaga is crazy, but he's not nearly on the same level of insanity as Piper. Hot Rod knows all the dirty tricks, and has the advantage of being a "thinker", whereas Umaga is straight-ahead madness.

This will be a hell of a brawl, but Piper gets the win.

I'm going with Umaga here. Sure, Piper is tough and crazy, but so is Umaga. Plus, he has the advantage when it comes to physical tools. He's bigger, quicker, and stronger than Piper. It wouldn't be easy by any means, but I think Umaga would end up the victor. He's beaten some of the best at the main event level, so he is definetly more than capable.

Mark the FUCK out. This match would be hella fun, and full of HSQ.

Umaga may be a Samoan Bulldozer and unstoppable and all that, but look at his track record: He's been in many hardcore, LMS, and No DQ matches, and he's lost. The "smaller guy" always finds a way to defeat the "monster". Roddy Piper was plain tough, and has a much better track record in brawls.

Vote Piper.

The match goes all over the place until Piper finds a coconut. He cracks it over Umaga's head. Umaga grabs the coconut, drinks the milk, and spits it on Piper. One Samoan Spike later and this one is over.

This match could go either way; both men are battle tested, and tougher than steel. Piper is not only crazy, but he's also intelligent. He'd capitalize on any mistakes Umaga would make, and one would think that a craized wreaking machine with intensity to match would make a few, while trying to do as much much damage to Piper as quickly as possible.

I would give this match to Piper, except for one important detail. As big and intense as Umaga is, especially considering the pace that he works, one would think the big man would run out of gas fairly quickly. However, he doesn't, Umaga possess an unnatural amount of stamina for a man his size, and could probably keep up his violent and rapid pace for a good 30 minutes or more, before slowing significantly.

One would think that even Roddy Piper would eventually succumb to a barrage of attacks of the mangitude that Umaga can deliver, while his attacks aren't having nearly the same affect on the big man.
