Money into ads into votes is a problem everywhere, regardless of whether or not you think you're part of it or not. The fact that politicians can basically "buy" votes means that they will always work to pass whichever legislation benefits their contributors the most rather than the legislation who benefits their constituents the most.

That's actually the opposite of what I just said, and it's the root of the problem. The politicians who win are the ones who sell out the most to the PACs and rich folks who give them the most money so that they can buy ads and spam signs all over cities to get their name recognition out there. Once they get in office, they vote for the legislation that those PACs and rich folks support so that they can keep getting money and stay in office during the next election.

The ones who might actually care about the people never win, and usually never come close, because the electorate is dumb and votes for all one party or whichever name they recognize the most.
