Puroresu Talks - Wrestling In The Land of The Rising Sun

Question! Supposedly nobody kicked out of the Rainmaker until Sunday, right? Then why am I seeing Tanahashi doing it close to two years ago at Invasion Attack 2013?

He spent the entire match trying to destroy Okada's arm. This meant that when Okada hit the rainmaker, it was weaker than it normally is.

If my memory isn't tricking me, wasn't that the match that Okada hit the move and took like a lot of time before going for the cover? Technically it's a "kick out", but Tanahashi had a lot of time to be able to do it, while at WK9 he kicked out right away.

EDIT: Also what NSN said!

I imagine they have a weekly show yea? Were is the dub-over for that?

Jarrett would be smart to co-promote a regular Amrerican presence.

New Japan does not have a "weekly show" (I explained that dude).

This one you'll get is just a mini-series, of random matches really, that can help the American audience to get to know the guys from the company. You'll have Mauro Ranallo and Barnett doing commentary for some of the best matches in the history of the company, and they are starting off big with two Tanahashi vs. Okada. I've read somewhere, I believe it was in the Observer, that said that both guys have been doing an amazing job, so try and give them a chance as far as selling New Japan for you.

If something ends up appearing on Dailymotion or YouTube, I'll post the links in here. For the mean time, this week's WON said that ROH was really disappointed that New Japan chose to work with Jarrett in the States and not them and it feels like the "partnership" is a little bit, at least, shaken.

WK9 was a great show.

Kenny Omega is my jam and I love the Cleaner gimmick.

Nakamura/Ibushi is heavily overrated and verifies Meltzers love for Japan. It was a star making match for Ibushi but it's a solid 41/4 stars which is not a bad thing.

I'm trying to figure out the logic behind Tanahasi beating Okada and making him look like a sniveling bitch. Anybody?

I think considering their ages, this is a story that NJPW can get away with selling right now.

The story has flow- Okada returns to the company immediately joins CHAOS, adopts the Rainmaker gimmick and is positioned as the young hot-shot challenging current ace Tanahashi right away.:icon_arrow: He wins the belt and teases a changing of the guard, but shortly drops it back to Tanahashi. :icon_arrow:He then goes on to win the G-1 and to prove to everyone that he is the new Ace, he says he wants his shot at Tanahashi at WK7, but Tanahshi wins there to maintain his spot on the mountain.:icon_arrow: Still undeterred Okada wins the New Japan cup for another shot. He wins the match at Invasion Attack, and once again overcomes Tanahashi in the rematch in October, and cements his spot as Ace, with Tanahashi basically conceding and turning his attention to Nakamura and the IC belt.:icon_arrow: In 2014 the introduction of AJ Styles to the main event, and taking Okada's belt while Tanahashi and Nakamura traded victories, muddied the waters, leaving the company with no clear Ace.:icon_arrow: While Okada focused on the G1, winning it to get another shot at his title, Tanahashi crept into the picture, taking the belt off Styles, setting up a renewed battle at WK9 to prove who is the Ace.

Now they could've gone two ways- They could've had Okada go over and once again prove that he is above Tanahashi; OR go the route they went where Tanahashi shows that he took his defeats to Okada and grew and got even better and is now definitively the best again and deserves to still be the Ace. He puts guys like Nakamura and Styles on notice, further enhances his legacy as an all time great in the sport's history, and sets a new peak for Okada to climb if he is to ever regain the Ace position.

The way they went also allows them to set up a heel Okada up for a sympathetic face turn that likely leads to him leaving CHAOS and trying to topple Nakamura and show Tanahashi and the world that he's ready to prove beyond any doubt that he will be the Ace again.

What is the next event after new years dash since I finished watching that.

You've Fantasticamania, which is a cross promotional event from CMLL/NJPW, but, if we're on New Japan's side of things only, you'll have New Beginning next month, and it will be a two day event. Fantasticamania isn't really something to "improve" New Japan Storylines.

New Beginning though will be a two day event like I said, one will be headlined by AJ Styles vs. Tanahashi for the IWGP Belt and the other will be headlined by Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Yuji Nagata for the IC Title Belt. You'll also have Wrestle Kingdom 9 rematches and the NWA title matches. Okada will also probably face Bad Luck Fale.

Now, as for everyone that loves puroresu and people that want to get into it, this is New Japan Pro Wrestling on AXS TV. Commentary done by Mauro Ranallo and former UFC Hvt. Champion Josh Barnett. This week it's the 2013 Tokyo Dome Main Event, and coincidentally it's Kazuchika Okada challenging Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The point of this is to broadcast some of the best matches up until this point and, then, maybe broadcast with a month or two from the real thing the shows or at least, the major matches from New Japan's big events.

Watched all of the Tanahashi/Okada matches. Invasion Attack was their best encounter followed by the one at King of Pro-Wrestling those were both top quality classic encounters. The second match from Dominion was great also. Okada and Tanahashi's selling in those encounters were brilliant.

I'm on a bit of a 1990's kick on NJPW World right now. How awesome was The Great Muta? This guy is seriously wacked out crazy in any of his matches with Hiroshi Hase. And while we're at it, everyone loves to talk up WrestleMania, but the January 4th Dome Show from 1993 had 60,000+ at it! The entrances are half the wrestlers getting lost walking through the enormous crowds!

Subtitles on NJPW World are funny as shit. Whoevers job it was to translate did a horrible but hilarious job.

I thought some people here might be interested.

Wrestle Kingdom IX
Date: January 4, 2015
Location: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan
Attendance: 36,000
Commentators: Matt Striker, Jim Ross

So yet again I’ve been asked to do the biggest New Japan show of the year. I usually can’t stand doing these because I have no idea what’s going on and I really don’t care to know. However, this time the show has English commentary, which could be a solution to a lot of my problems. That being said, Matt Striker is on commentary and I don’t particularly care for him to put it mildly. Let’s get to it.

Same Old, Same Old

So according to Meltzer, AJ Styles is reported to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from Tanahashi at The New Beginning event. Maybe this sets up Styles vs. Tanahashi vs. Okada later down the road?

Congrats to AJ for regaining the IWGP Heavyweight Championship!

Bullet Club cleaned the fuck up at New Beginning in Osaka, and are back to utterly dominating the championship landscape in NJPW.

This is from the New Beginning in Sendai show

Just checked out that Honma/Ishii match. Fucking Spectacular and on par with the double main event from Wrestle Kingdom. Seriously.

This match topped their encounter from Dontaku last year, which was a classic.

Here's the Dontaku match, 5/3/14:

I'll post yesterday's NB:Sendai match for comparison when its up on DailyMotion.

So I finally watched this, the match where the Muta Scale became a thing - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Muta+Scale

Not exactly a great match (pretty good though) but damn how much blood does Muta lose. Eddie/JBL from Judgment Day certainly tops it, but in terms of wrestler's not known for their hardcore expertise, Muta bleeds like a stuffed pig and Hase biting him is sick as fuck. Also him spitting Muta's blood out was both disgusting and cool (given it was mocking of Muta's mist spit at the match's start).

Finally found a one part link for New Beginning in Sendai(the only links that had been previously available broke the show into 4 parts and frustratingly split Ishii/Honma down the middle).

The entrances for the match of the year start at around the 2:42:00 mark:

I realize most will have no interest in checking out the entire show, but if you're a wrestling fan and can find a free thirty minutes of time anywhere in your life over the next few days, PLEASE try and check out Ishii/Honma, it comes with my highest recommendation possible.

Here is the Act Yasukawa/YOSHIKO incident from Stardom. Its starts at around 3.30ish mark it is just brutal to watch. And not in a good way

Targeting ACT's eye, with the history of problems that she has had with it, makes YOSHIKO a fucking Sociopath.

If this was all over Act's popularity, or possibly a plan for Act to go over and take the title, then YOSHIKO gives a new sick and twisted definition to being a mark for yourself.

In America she would be prosecuted and blackballed, and rightfully so. In the alternate reality that surrounds the Puro world, it will be interesting to see how she is dealt with both from an in and out of the ring perspective.

And Act is a fucking warrior for repeatedly trying to just say fuck it and continue the main event match.

Yoshiko has reportedly been stripped of the title and forced to resign. When the company break Kayfabe to address the situation then shit is serious.

This YOSHIKO character is clearly a nutcase. The smile on her face after the ref called it was just sickening. Truly barmy.

Poor Yasukawa. Clearly didn't deserve that and based on what Shadowmancer said elsewhere, it's not exactly been an easy ride even before this. My heart goes out to her.

I've just watched this, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it in a wrestling ring. The smug look on Yoshiko's face when she's declared the winner disgusted me more than I can begin to describe. That was fucking hard to watch, really hard.

I'm hoping that every single promotion blackballs this animal, here's hoping some further punishment is handed out to her.

Hey and let's also hope that Act will recover from this. Fingers crossed.
